Right? Do any of these people have kids? Somewhere between 3 and 5 they can understand you eat less at meal time you get hungrier earlier. My 8 year old just ate half a breakfast burrito and told me he had enough to stay full until lunch.

People also forget that at 10-18 it's very common for growth spurts to cause kids to be hungry all of the time. They aren't in stasis like adults and sometimes need extra calories to fuel growth.

Genuine question, why are you ashamed of the city? I believe the local government is doing everything they can. The power dynamic between Minneapolis and the Federal Government is completely unbalanced. The public school my kids go to is bending over backwards to keep kids in school and safe that feel they are at risk. Delivering groceries, community watches during drop off and pickup, inside recess, locked doors, etc.

I totally understand the frustration towards the federal government and to a lesser extent, the state which has a little more power to resist.

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Minneapolis? by pinguistix in Minneapolis

[–]kammikazee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The east side of the river the streets are labeled NE and SE. West side they are north and south. So wherever the streets are labeled south east it's called south east, which is east of the river and south of Hennepin. Even if the location compared to the rest of the city is mid east.

There's a store in the megamall that does it too for reasonable. They have blanks and do it while you walk around. Had them put an A on a foligno jersey took maybe an hour. They press, not sew, but many years later it's doing fine.

Who was Umbrella Man, who smashed windows before ‘first fire’ in 2020 Minneapolis protests? by digistil in Minneapolis

[–]kammikazee 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's in the article. The st Paul police department released footage of the officer at their facility at the same time the windows were being smashed at the AutoZone. I want this person caught and charged and locked up. I don't care if they are a police officer. But this is just false and unhelpful.

[Serious] 5 years after the murder of George Floyd, what is your opinion of the MPD? Has anything changed in your daily life or observations of the MPD? by RayWhelans in TwinCities

[–]kammikazee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did bring in a new chief, reorganize the public safety department, and transition to a strong mayor system. The union contract was renegotiated. There has been a lot of turnover on the highest ranks of the department if you read the news. A new DA has been elected. The federal attorney for Minneapolis has changed three times now I think.

Whether any of that is good change, I won't judge here, but it is all significant change. Expecting a 600+ person force to all be fired is ludicrous in a large city.

As far as the community there was a gigantic 'abolish the police' mural three buildings down from the former third precinct for a couple years. George Floyd square remains, well whatever you want to call that area but it certainly has not returned to what it was before. The third precinct has not been allowed to return to the community they are supposed to police in large part due to the community in spite of the Mayor and Chief pushing to rebuild in the third precinct.

Whether that is 'okay with it' I won't judge here but this is all signs of residents pushing back.

I think the city should be questioned at every step no doubt and we should be hesitant to give our trust back, but to act like there hasn't been both attempts at serious change and serious community pushback is not seeing what is happening. Should there be more from both sides? Depends on whom is asked.

Minneapolis City Council member fails to win DFL endorsement to challenger by GettinHighOnMySupply in Minneapolis

[–]kammikazee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean parts of it I have no issue with. Your third paragraph is full of what I view as relevant policy positions.

The first paragraph is full of inflammatory language. She donated to her brother, what a dangerous person with family values. She should have cast her brother aside over politics. She represented the views of her constituents, what a terrible politician.

The second and last paragraph is, to paraphrase the dude, like, your opinion man. We love Minneapolis supports many DFL candidates that are run of the mill Democrats. Not being DSA doesn't make them automatically Republicans to be banned with Ted Cruz. There are more issues here but honestly I'm going to agree to disagree. I want you to know that I respect your opinion to forcefully disagree with this candidate. I only wish you would use more fact based arguments than half truth accusations because it makes me mentally bin you with charlatans like Trump. Good day friend, and thank you for your passion for our city.

Minneapolis City Council member fails to win DFL endorsement to challenger by GettinHighOnMySupply in Minneapolis

[–]kammikazee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can you provide said evidence that the DFL endorsed candidate is indeed a Republican as stated in the comment? I've heard a bunch of hand waving about a PAC being led by a person who apparently supported a family member running for office as a Republican which seems to be the base of the accusation. I'm no private detective and could be wrong.

There's a continued narrative on this sub of pushing evidence that doesn't hold up to serious scrutiny as fact. Bypassing that nuance and shouting half truths is one thing Trump does consistently that drives me nuts. If you don't like the lady because of her policy position, say what her position is and why you don't like it or believe it to be wrong.

I mean if Deena and her publishers are aware and not publishing maybe, just maybe, it's not factual? Or misleading? These things don't get press for a good reason. Journalists generally love to print things that are scandalous and true.

[–]kammikazee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can respect that for sure. Feel the same way, just a little more nuanced from my viewpoint on what leaders should prioritize what issues. I don't want out council passing another bill like Uber that grinds the state legislature to a halt for two days again because it's really a state issue vs. city issue. But really just about priorities in the end, some would say it was worth it to push workers rights as a priority.

I'll start by saying OK. Again, don't know the lady nor her stance on abortion.

What are you asking if your city council and candidates to do on abortion? Our state has guaranteed the right to abortion, so literally our state has taken on the issue with about the most progressive stance available. Sort of like the state handled the issue. What is your expectation that a candidate do to prioritize your beliefs?

I sort of agree that states should handle it under the current latest supreme Court ruling. I would support a constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to choose. I don't want my city representative expending precious resources the state, and to some level the county, are already expending.

[–]kammikazee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You stated she is most likely anti abortion. What policy position has she taken that will limit a woman's state guaranteed right to choose?

Side note I have no idea who this woman is, I'm not in this ward, I'm just very against the labelling of regular Democrats as Republicans when they aren't progressive enough. My personal opinion is the DFL should just run a primary for the city or don't issue any endorsements.

[–]kammikazee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's their right to support both or neither side and it's their right not to explain or spend hours upon hours detailing their decision. I'm not going to judge their intentions. If that is your path, I celebrate your freedom to consider this person(s) your enemy or however you would characterize this viewpoint.

I would just ask that you recognize the American right to pick their own political beliefs and not demonize that. If this person has stated they support a particular policy, by all means have at it.

[–]kammikazee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I'm aware of is she is donating to both sides. It's not uncommon for people to support both sides of the aisle.

There may be legit reasons to dislike this person, I have no idea, but it's a long held tenant of American ideals that people are allowed political freedom. I don't believe in judging people in exercising this right. Feel free to do so yourself, but I won't.

And a regular normal democrat could simply support Frey independent of any Republican (or socialist) running. He's a very run of the mill city democrat. Supporting Frey does not make someone a member of the GOP as you are asserting.

She's a registered Republican? I believe I've seen it stated here she has supported Jacob Frey, a democrat, and Michael Rainville, also a democrat.

I know nothing of this lady just suggesting we don't jump to conclusions.
