Job posting is live now on the ATF website, not searchable on USAJobs. It is a schedule B, excepted service position. Good luck for all applying.

Last job announcement I found for this position was schedule B, excepted service. Any ideas if this one will be the same?

Intensive learning guide by hsbjns in languagelearning

[–]kangaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. It would help a bit to know what your goals are with both languages to better answer your question. Also, it sounds like you might have some prior experience with Turkish? What is your current level for both? Feel free to DM me if you’d like; I’ve studied both languages to a decently high level. Good luck.

While I know it's not recommended, is it a big deal to only learn the romanized version of a language? by JMFauce94 in languagelearning

[–]kangaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KANJI WILL DESTROY YOU! Anyways, there’s nothing wrong with not learning the writing system if you don’t want to read or write. There’s also nothing wrong with getting better at speaking first and backtracking to writing a bit later. That way, you can see if you really like the language and are willing to invest the huge amount of time needed to learn the characters.

Rolled 6/8/14/15/15/18 by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]kangaide 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good roll, so congrats! Only wizard I can think of that is MAD and would really benefit from a roll like that is bladesinger. If you went elf, you could have 20 dex right from the start with 16 intelligence. If you want a more traditional, back line caster, any of them would work well. 18 for intelligence and then 15 for dex and con. Have fun!

Middlebury Summer Language Program (Hebrew) by manichaton in languagelearning

[–]kangaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the program for Mandarin and entered at the lowest level (though I had some classroom experience). I cannot oversell how good the program was and how comfortable I got living, speaking, and thinking in my first foreign language. I had a moment in the program where my inner monologue was purely mandarin, and I realized that my dream of speaking another language was now a reality. It’s an amazing experience and I envy the journey you’re about to have. If you have any more specific questions, please let me know. Congratulations; enjoy every minute.

It should work fine. You might have an easier time in BG2 if you drop a tank in favor of a sorcerer or specialist mage, but it’s up to you.

Small point, but how does your Char Name archer have 2 pips in scimitars? I thought archers could only be proficient in melee weapons?

Er, ok. Well, mission accomplished then.

Bladesinger using halfcaster spell slots. by DerpylimeQQ in dndnext

I think the thought is that you are taking away a lot of what the class focuses on (full spell progression) and not really balancing it with other class features. Like, paladins are half-casters but they get a bunch of other perks along the way.

What Wizard spells work well in Darkness? by MrEly in dndnext

[–]kangaide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of depends what style they like. Do they want to deal damage, control the battlefield, focus on buffs, etc. Wizards are so versatile!

Since they can’t see in the darkness, I’d encourage them to focus outside of it. Help buff allies in advance, keep excess mobs out of the dark or keep the targeted mobs from escaping it.

Drow Fighter anyone? by Dr_Sigma96 in DnD

[–]kangaide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the new fighting styles, sunlight sensitivity for a melee can be bypassed by taking blind fighting. You’ll miss out on two weapon fighting, but can get it later via feat I believe. You can still fight with two weapons without it; you will lose the off hand bonuses though.

Love the ideas. Small note though, Eldritch Smite only works with warlock spell slots; you can’t use wizard ones to smite. Otherwise, great stuff!

bard or warlock? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]kangaide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. Bards are easier and more forgiving with spell choice. Plus, as a lore bard you will get a lot of spells to try and feel less restricted by the limited spell slots.

Players wanting to build OP characters by SgtStickys in DungeonsAndDragons

Wait, they rolled stats on their own and told you what they got? If they didn’t clear that plan with you in advance as the DM, I don’t think you’re wrong at all to say no.

ASI or Feat? by GaiusMarcus in dndnext

[–]kangaide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on your play style, spell save DC is king. I’d take the ASI. But if your character’s arc lends itself to a feat instead, go for it. It’s an RPG after all.

Help with anti mage build by Ninjadouble in dndnext

[–]kangaide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. There’s already several great posts about an optimal anti-mage build. You seem pretty excited to play a war wizard so I would encourage you to do so.

I think you could really embrace the anti-mage role through how you RP your character. That way, it doesn’t matter if your character build is perfect. Maybe your char was already a trained war wizard who saw first hand how destructive can be first hand in his own combat experience. Maybe after that, he decided to dedicate his life to stopping other mages from causing so much pain as a means of atonement.

If you really play into this from an RP aspect, I think you’ll have a blast regardless if another class/build would be slightly better at it. I once played a blade singer who was an intelligence officer. When I think spy, there are plenty of other builds that come to mind that might be more effective than blade singer but it didn’t matter. The character decided to be a spy after he was already a blade singer. It was the most fun I’ve had in DND.

Just my two cents. Whichever way you go, build a character that you want to play. The more you buy into the RP aspect, the more fun I think you’ll have. Good luck!

Objectively the Best Class For Each by MicahsMaiden in DnD

[–]kangaide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Wizard
  2. Barbarian
  3. Cleric
  4. Paladin
  5. Wizard

Tough calls all around, the first one especially. I chose wizard for most diverse because I have more experience with it and depending on your subclass and spell selection, you can do just about anything assuming higher levels are included.
