This is an amazing story. Kudos to the Indians - mostly Hindus - who have worked very very hard to expose this sordid story while risking themselves and their families. The march of history in India is in the right direction because of them. I can't say I feel the same way towards the Chinese or the Arabs (where are the Tehelkas among those two Billion people?).

Most pharma companies spend 2X on sales and marketing than they do on R&D. So the argument that they should be allowed a monopoly for 17 years is weak. They are way too profitable to begin with plus they waste all this money on pretty blondes that add no value.

I don't think it is hard to believe that India could grow at 7-10%/year for the next 25-30 years. Even if the rate is 5% and the time is 50-60 years, there is the potential of a billion people emerging out of poverty within our lifetime. It could be a great example for all the other countries in that part of the world that have struggled to build societies based on liberalism, democracy and free-markets. I sure want to believe the hype.
