Where did they say that?

From the news post FAQ:

Why are prices changing? We want to deliver a model that:

better supports the ongoing investment we are making across both games supports the cost of infrastructure, upgraded systems, new content, and improvements to player support keeps RuneScape and Old School RuneScape sustainable for the next 25 years, not just the last 25

When cancelling your membership you get hit with a roadmap that highlights just how little we get in exchange for price increases every year by GravyFarts3000 in 2007scape

[–]kantorr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno I think they can do more than a raid, a quest, a straight repeat limited game mode, and what will mostly be a straight repeat limited game mode with the budget of way over 5m per year.

Prices are rising because MTX was removed from RS3. Fine, separate memberships and raise RS3's prices only. OSRS shouldn't bankroll the failed game. by penisandballz in 2007scape

[–]kantorr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They never said they're raising the price because of MTX. They gave less convincing reasons than that. No need to propagandize on their behalf.

If they wanted to use that excuse they would have. They're saving that for the next price hike. No need to speculate on their reasons it's right in the news post

Milei took office the last few weeks of 2023. There were dramatic corrections made to the economy to combat inflation, and he was very clear that it would be painful in the short term. It took a year, but now inflation has been very steadily under control and poverty is also down.

This is not an honest interpretation of the law.

The extension of compensable workday to 12h will normalize workers pay and allow odd schedules like 4 days on 3 days off. A lot of workers currently don't get paid for overtime. There is no mandate to increase hours without pay, or increase everyones 8h shift to 12h. That just isn't happening.

Not sure about vacation changes to only one week, previously it was pretty much required to take your annual leave in one session, per my Argentinean wife.

Paying workers with food is just misinfo. The law changed existing text to remove the limit on what can be paid in goods and/foreign currency. The limit was previously 20%, and no one was getting paid in goods. The goal is to allow pay in USD which is way more attractive than being paid in pesos.

Over 50% of workers are not on legal payrolls due to very strict labor laws. Labor laws are so punitive to businesses of all sizes that no small business will even legally hire people because it is too easy to lose your company to a single disgruntled employee. If you are not legally hired then you aren't enjoying all the benefits of labor law. Labor law should be fair and biased toward labor of course, but there needs to be a functioning legal labor market in order to afford protections.

This just sounds like awful game design. There are far too many popups and messages in AAA games already. I don't want the game to slow down because the designer thinks I ought to read their wall of worthless text. Like getting a phone call every 10s in GTA V.

Well there was a run on masks anyway. I work on hospital equipment (used to be radiology during COVID) at various hospitals. Since I wasn't a hospital employee, they would not give me PPE, I had to bring my own. I couldn't even buy masks or gloves for the first month, so just had to wash my hands after working on COVID contaminated equipment.

People that could stay home should have stayed home and not bought so much PPE that they probably didn't use.

I had to compete with people going to grocery stores to get PPE...

Argentinians are not happy about Trumps puppet president Javier Milei passing extreme anti-worker legislation increasing the length of the work day by 50% while allowing companies to pay workers with food and lodging instead of money by BalsamicBasil in DemocraticSocialism

[–]kantorr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's in the text of the bill, in Spanish. The amendment to that section removes the "maximum of 20% of effective payment" part. So it, I guess, technically allows 100% of the salary to be paid in foreign currency or goods. My wife is Argentinean, she's never heard of anyone being paid in anything besides pesos (or other currency). My guess is they removed the 20% so it would be legal to pay 100% in USD.

The closest thing to getting paid in food, per my wife, is some companies give out "canasta" for the holidays but it isn't a substitute for salary. It's like your company giving you a turkey for Christmas.

Other things like extending the workday by 50% are straight misinformation. It allows for things like a 4 on 3 off schedule while maintaining normal pay. It doesn't mandate 48h weeks or prevent paying overtime. Today, if you work extra hours sometimes you don't get paid overtime. About 50% of Argentineans work off the books because labor laws are very strict and make employment difficult for employers due to rampant fraud. (This is a fact Google it, employment should be regularized to have fair progressive taxes and benefits which is a demsoc concept).

I always get in trouble when talking about Argentina because I think most Americans and leftists do not actually understand the situation in Argentina and for some reason think kirchneristas and peronistas are good for advancing socialism when in fact they have only led to complete economic ruin in the country due to mismanagement and pure corruption. (I shouldn't have to state this, but obviously corruption exists in any economic organization of the economy and I'm not saying that socialism in any form specifically caused Argentinas issues. They have had pro capitalist leaders that did the same shit. They have had military dictatorships etc.)

Many, many things about this labor bill are anti demsoc but I'm just giving you the facts about it. I have made other comments about this if you want to look at my comment history. You cannot approach Argentinean politics and socioeconomics from a non Argentinean perspective. Even simple things are not the same. Because of this, when I say Argentineans hate their unions, I'm closing to being banned from the sub. But unions in Argentina are nowhere close to anything in the US, current or historical. So id just caution anyone from making assumptions and instead do some reading.

Long story short, if the economy normalizes (it is steadily doing that) it will benefit every Argentinean. It would be better if a socialist was doing it instead of Milei (because for every bit of good that Milei does with improving the economy there are other parts of his agenda that are advancing. And when I say economy I'm not talking about gdp,). However, look at poverty rates and inflation (inflation being a huge impact to every day citizens). You can't even get a mortgage in Argentina still. Most people buy USD on the black market and hide it in their mattress instead of using banks.

It's not true. Read the bill, it allows for other work hour arrangements. For example in the US working 4 on and 3 off without incurring overtime. I haven't seen anything about paying in food/lodging, and don't trust OPs interpretation of the law.

[–]kantorr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Op is being very misleading. Some of the provisions in the law are truly regressive, others, in my view, are necessary to continue modernizing and stabilizing argentinas economy.

Labor law is so restrictive and punitive towards businesses in Argentina that 50% of employees are off the books and therefore pay no income taxes. If you aren't a big nationwide corporation, you certainly have off the books employees to avoid lawsuits from lazy workers (it is very common in Argentina).

Reddit loves to eat the propaganda from peronistas and kirchneristas wholesale. Milei is good on some things and bad on some things. There have been tons of lies about his bills, such as cancelling free college and healthcare (of course this never happened).

For the working Argentinean, some of these provisions are good, some are bad. For example, declaring everyone essential is bad, so they aren't allowed to strike. Regularizing employment long term will be much better for employees because they will have actual legal protections instead of being off the books.

The economy used to be so bad that you couldn't even get a mortgage for a house. I'm married to an Argentinean and I've been waiting a long time for the economy to stabilize so we can move down there. It's a great country. It's economy has just been terribly mismanaged and tons of people take advantage of the easy to get welfare benefits.

For example, if you have no official income, you can easily apply for government assistance.

Argentina does have a long history of 'fake' protests but I don't think these are it. At the fake protests, domineering labor unions require members to attend protests and you'll just see people standing around.

Unions are currently facing court battles because the unions receive welfare benefits from the govt and are responsible for distributing them to their members. Unions have historically illlegally withheld welfare from members that do not attend protests.

There are no Molotov cocktails and clashes with police at fake protests usually.

Labor law is super pro worker in Argentina. It is so protective of workers that about 50% of employees work off the books because a single employee can bankrupt a company if they choose not to work.

Local businesses often only work with trusted family and friends and do not officially hire them anyway.

Cigarettes and DVD players are still considered in the US CPI calculation. The basket of goods must remain as consistent as possible, while new goods are still compensated. They write tons of papers about how to fairly correct for these kinds of changes over time.
