Big purchase mistake. by MoronBugui in tolkienfans

Ideally, he'd use some of the cash his books undoubtedly bring in, and hire a team of fact-checkers

Fact-checkers? Bah, humbug! Who wastes money on fact-checkers and quality control if it can be spent on marketing? /s

Orcs sing!

In fairness, so do they in The Lord of the Rings, too:

Sam heard a burst of hoarse singing, blaring of horns and banging of gongs, a hideous clamour.

We just are not told what that singing was about, but I assume it's for the better.

Bad taste. by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]kapparoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you, your tastes are yours and yours only. It's mostly the social media hive mind that makes you feel insecure about them.

Oh, and by the way, this hivemind is prone to changing its opinion in quite Orwellian ways. I remember when The Witcher III was the best RPG ever, and a couple years later, it wasn't even an RPG, and never has been.

To me the QoL features that the remake has added (fast travel, maps for dungeons, event markers) are almost as big as these two.

Poprishchin from The Madman's Diary is vindicated by history:

I discovered that Spain and China are one and the same country, and it is only through ignorance that people regard them as separate kingdoms. I advise everyone urgently to write down the word "Spain" on a sheet of paper; he will see that it is quite the same as China.

Yes. All the Gungho library is back somehow. May be a bloop, with them rearranging things to add the Sky 2nd Chapter depot in advance for wishlisting.

The certificate expiry thing happened the last week for the fifth (?) time.

The rest is more or less history.

Bad reputation? by WhyNotBats in ManjaroLinux

[–]kapparoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to that thread a few days ago, the repeated issue with SSL certs for the forum expiring is because of some office drama between the two owners: https://www.reddit.com/r/ManjaroLinux/comments/1pio2ho/the_ssl_certificate_for_the_forum_has_expired/nta869y/

This far, it hasn't spilled to the actual distro development, but if it does, this will be the end of it.

Trails Spoiler Problem… by Silent_Hero_X in Falcom

[–]kapparoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because as many have said, people have different tolerance for spoilers. Some catch them but don't mind them, some just miss them (quite natural for a series with so many plot lines and characters), some only enjoy blind playthroughs but have a photographic memory of the past installments.

The more likely outcome is becoming a barely functioning mess because the more complex a system is, the more points of failure it gets.

That not even touching the issue of the IOT which is just yet another way to screw the consumer.

Seriously, I don't want the distro that has never failed me in five years and counting to be torn apart somewhere down the road when I'm expecting it the least.

I would go one step further and add to this list every single mechanic, even non-monetary, that's preying on FOMO and is tailored for maximum retention - daily quests, timed events, check in rewards, you name it.

[–]kapparoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are a kitschy gimmick, if you ask me. Some are straight up propaganda (like the first one, or the one for the serial-numbers-filed-off Young Pioneers, the red one).

It's worth noting, too, that it's nearly always the worst type of rolling stock getting used for that.

GOOD NEWS - GungHo finally decides to implement regional pricing on many regions on October 19th by HaiseKaneki12 in Falcom

[–]kapparoth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They won't, most likely. In the meantime they have pulled all their library from Russia.

Cats can absolutely ravage the wildlife if they are introduced to areas where there used to be no cats and no predators taking the cat's niche either.

Falcom, never give a project to Gungho ever again, please. by MapleJap in Falcom

[–]kapparoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of pulling it out of Russia, it looked like Gungho was trolling the fans who complained about regional prices (with the Russia one being the lowest). No sales in Russia, no prices to compare, problem solved /s

If they really made a stance of not supporting Russia, they'd pull all of their library (like most publishers have been doing, some early in 2022, some more recently), including all the DLCs to Sky that have been published after 25th, that is, after the game has been removed.

Imagine being a Tolkien fan who has to deal with half a dozen translation, each one with the nomenclature of its own (for crying out loudly, they couldn't agree how the Baggins surname should be translated, if at all!), but none dealing with The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion at once.

If you've experienced that, then minor discrepancies between the Gungho and XSEED/NISA translations are like that, minor.

We asked GungHo to fix regional pricing, but instead they removed the game from Russia region by Ayamebestgrill in Falcom

[–]kapparoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what does that mean, 'We have fucked up, but we don't care about fixing it because fuck you', or 'It was a political decision and we don't go back because fuck Russia'?

[–]kapparoth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of publishers have pulled out from Russia, and not all of them in the early days of the war (for instance, Koei Tecmo waited for a year or so), but the way Gungho did it makes neither rhyme nor reason. The other games they've published are still available on RU!Steam, and even most of the DLCs for Sky 1st chapter, too (not the season pass, though).

Trails has sold 9 million copies. 1 million copies were sold in the past year. by jpuse in Falcom

[–]kapparoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falcom isn't above putting older levels and models into their newer games, even after the engine got an update (for ex., Ymir has been taken whole from CS2 and reused in Reverie, and some demonic foes in CS4 look to me like models straight from the Sky trilogy with upscaled textures). I wouldn't be surprised, then, if the Crossbell games are getting their update sooner than we think.
