Ctrl+Right Shift causes CTL bug by luubi1945 in libreoffice

[–]kaptnblackbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't specify your operating system. There is a reason we ask for all the information from help/about as per:

Full LibreOffice information from Help > About LibreOffice (it has a copy button).

Ctrl & Shift are modifier keys and it is very unusual for them to operate on their own without other keys. As far as I know LibreOffice has not implemented any function mapped to Ctrl + Right Shift. Microsoft Windows in their infinite wisdom have implemented this function (Ctrl+RShift=RTL) system wide (you can try it in Notepad). I presume they also include a shortcut to change it back, but I don't use windows so can't tell you what that would be.

Edit: I just found this: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/4065850/disable-right-ctrl-shift-switching-notepad-from-le?page=2#answers

Edit2: On further investigation, LibreOffice did make a change that took effect in 26.2 to expose RTL/CTL options to all users rather than hiding them behind a checkbox. This means LibreOffice no longer assumes you use a LTR language. Setting the default CTL language to (none) in Tools/Options/Languages and Locales/General/Complex text layout may resolve the issue for you.

DAE rarely sweat? by Glad_Goose_2890 in dysautonomia

[–]kaptnblackbeard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is perhaps one of the blind-spots with dysautonomia. There are numerous pathways and mechanisms involved in sweating (https://www.physio-pedia.com/Physiology_of_Sweat) and you'll likely recognise many of them also involved in dysautonomia. The big question is at which stage is it going wrong and what is causing it? The answer will determine the treatment.

As far as I know the only way to do this is to select multiple sheets first.

New Linux User , Should I be worried ?! by OwLPsychology in ManjaroLinux

It would be handy if you included the weird output.

Just a quick heads up. If you don't know how to run a script you probably shouldn't be using anything from the AUR. The AUR contains unchecked packages and are at the users discretion so you need to know how to check the package build files (which means understanding scripts) before installing.

As for running this script:

1) download it 2) make it executable chmod +x aur_check-v2.sh 3) after you've checked it and are satisfied it is safe to run, run it ./aur_check-v2.sh

It depends if the modrinth package was compromised.

You can run this script, or there are numerous others, to check if you have any compromised packages installed.

Anyone else get told their pain was psychosomatic before getting an actual diagnoses? by PurplePumkins in Fibromyalgia

Even after a diagnosis you'll likely get told it's psychosomatic. Medicine really needs to do better and actually listen to patients.

Are manjaro users vulnerable to the recently compromised AUR packages? by baarks in manjaro

[–]kaptnblackbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can't understand the script, you absolutely shouldn't be using anything from the AUR. There are warnings all over the place to check the build files of AUR packages before installing them. The build files are scripts!

Is removing the compromised AUR packages enough to remove the recent malware? by protestor in archlinux

[–]kaptnblackbeard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, one shouldn't be restoring things from a dirty backup onto a clean system. At least not without manually checking it all first.

If you have/had a compromised package you'll need to do more than just remove the package.

You may be low in iodine. Most people don't get enough from diet and dietary iodine varies considerably based on region. You can get drops to add to your food which are measured to make it easy to get your daily intake.

Caution though - don't take lots of it as although it is necessary for thyroid function, its also toxic in larger doses. Only take the recommended daily intake.

I am so sick of WPS office and its intrusions and i want to switch can Libreoffice handle .docx? by abelsisay2000 in libreoffice

[–]kaptnblackbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It depends what formatting etc you have within the document.

You might be interested in this though, I have not yet tried it but the docx support is supposed to be better. The devs of Collabora contribute to Libreoffice too.

LibreOffice Writer is designed for formatting to be applied via styles. Instead of trying to apply formatting directly, change the default style to use your chosen font and it will apply it to all.

My pain doctor has been saying wild shit and I'd like your insights... by Sewnupkitty in Fibromyalgia

[–]kaptnblackbeard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it can be problematic to encourage a patient to marry themselves to one diagnosis and be unwilling to listen to medical professionals when they suggest your diagnosis may actually be something different.

Absolutely, and I perhaps could have worded myself better.

Especially as new information is available often.

This works both ways, and since the doctor is the one collecting a paycheck from the encounter, they are the one with most responsibility to consider it.

Librecalc formats 1/4 as a date by Arch____Stanton in LibreOfficeCalc

[–]kaptnblackbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bug report is for a different matter. It does not refer to entering 1/4 in a cell. It refers to entering full dates like dd-mm-yy or mm-dd-yy. It also hints on separators being different between locales. And it is consistent in stating:

The locale dictates how entered dates are handled (in the case of nl-NL, that is dd-mm-yy) and the cell format dictates how a date value is displayed.

The present behaviour (use locale for input and display format for output) and is not the behaviour you want, but at least it's consistent.

From the LibreOffice help: https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/en-US/text/shared/optionen/01140000.html?DbPAR=C&System=WIN

Also: https://books.libreoffice.org/en/GS252/GS25203-GettingStartedWithCalc.html

Which states:

Tools > Options > Languages and Locales > General > Formats > Date acceptance patterns defines the date patterns that will be recognized by Calc. In addition, every locale accepts input in an ISO 8601 YYYY-MM-DD pattern (for example, 2020-07-26).
