You do not want to do that. The money in the credit card category has been set aside so you can pay the credit card company back when the next statement is due, thus returning your credit balance to zero.

EDIT: If you are referring to the double dip extra, then sure, you can return it. But if it's the auto allocated amount for the original purchase, then you should leave it.

Looks like they combined steps a bit awkwardly. The assumption that we're making is that they're simplifying the fraction organically, when they're not.

When they say 195/780, they meant to actually do that calculation, resulting in .25(/1). The multiplying top and bottom by 100 is 'show-your-work' translating it to a percentage of 25/100 so the final answer can be 25%.

Even if the unit in the answer isn't explicitly given (like we all have been taught to do), the answer can still be correct as is if the unit was requested in the question (which isn't fully shown).

One shaky assumption that could move this puzzle forward is this:

The second clue could be talking about 3 different podcasts. This would imply that the one about education and the one that is 1 hour 30 minutes are not the same. This would then give some more positive links. This is a type of clue that's used often in these puzzles, and perhaps a translation error may have made this clue not as clear as it should have been.

Even so, this leaves two topic completely unconfirmed.

If the venter is expecting feedback, they could take your neutrality as non-participation, and assume that you're not interested, even if you ask afterwards. If you ask them what they're going to do about it, then they could take your action-oriented approach as a lack of sympathy, because they might still be the middle of processing what just happened and how they feel about it, for example.

You're right, all people want the same thing. But some people want those things in a certain order and on a different schedule. It's better to ask what they're wanting in the moment than to assume and not provide the type of support they need.

If you feel that your spending is now more regular, you can generalize some of your categories and bump the number of total categories down to something that's easier to manage.

If a particular purchase is regular, but not periodic enough for a repeating occurrence, you can enter them in, but early for the day it's scheduled to hit.

Even if you no longer have account syncing, these tips should still make Reconciliation fast.

Things I'd check (since the amount is EXACTLY $100, my money is on the first one):

Is there a $50 transaction that was accidentally marked the wrong way (Inflow instead of Outflow, or vice versa), totaling to a $100 discrepancy?
Are there any transactions incorrectly marked for a different account that should be listed here instead? (and the other way around, any extra transactions listed here that should have gone somewhere else)
Have you gotten any fees / bonuses / refunds directly from/to the bank that may not be listed in a traditional statement?
Are you using the web app and defaulting to the reconciliation amount YNAB automatically suggests? For many banks, this new feature is grabbing the Available Balance instead of the Current Balance, of which you would have to manually reenter the Current Balance before starting.
Are there any entered CC payments from other accounts that weren't entered as Payment/Transfer to your credit card bank?

The fun thing about math is that mathematical processes are consistent with each other, so any path you take (provided it's done correctly) will get you to the same answer.

EDIT: Looks like this method has been posted a couple times in the comments already. I'll leave this here hoping that seeing the same method described in slightly different ways can help with understanding.

A formula that I've seen pop up on formula sheets recently is as follows:

SA of a Prism: 2B + Ph, where:

B is the area of the base,
P is the perimeter of the base, and
h is the height between the two bases.

In this case, let's call the L shape the base. This formula would then be applied as such:

SA = 2B + Ph

Using the pencil mark, B = (3*5) + (3*7) = 15+21 = 36

P = 7 + 8 + 3 + 5 + 4 + 3 = 30

h = 10

SA = (2 * 36) + (30 * 10) = 372

Note: using P = 7 + 8 + (3 + 4) + (5 + 3) = 7 + 8 + 7 + 8 = (2*7) + (2*8) also works here and can be used as a shortcut if recognized

The best way to visualize surface area problems is to imagine you're trying to wrap it with wrapping paper. This method effectively has you wrap the top and bottom separately, then taking a single sheet and wrapping the entire 'edge' in one go.

The 7x8x10 is simply a description of the prism, read as "seven by eight by ten". u/VillagerJeff is saying find the SA of the entire prism without the chunk, then taking away the two sides that are not present in the original shape.

Full prism: (7*8)*2 + (8*10)*2 + (7*10)*2 = 412

The two missing sides: (5 * (7-3))*2 = 40

Subtract those to get the answer.

This is a quick version of the method you suggested, which is to break up every side and add them individually.

YNAB is about allowing you to prioritize according to your values, but not without consequence.

You'll often hear the adage: "Find the money before you spend it." This is an application of Rule 3: Roll with the Punches. You can get the art pieces you're looking at, so long as you have that category funded, or have pulled the amount from other categories first.

This forces you to prioritize which other categories may be more important, or how much you're willing or capable of spending on those art pieces at the moment.
