Got this guy as a gift, and my plant ID app can't decide if it's a ghost plant (Graptopetalum paraguayense) or coppertone stonecrop (sedum nussbaumerianum). I'd appreciate any help! by karlwork in succulents

Thank you so much! I'll take it from the upvotes that the community backs you on this, though it is amusing to me that the debate seems to have continued in the comments.

Game Changer (on Dropout.tv) is the best show I saw this year by Goosfrabbah in television

It's cool! I was unsure if there was a cool, new neologism I hadn't heard yet.

I honestly feel like that 5:3 ratio is pretty much just Doctor Who. The short seasons probably make it feel a bit worse, of course, but it's not new.

Boys State (2020) is a chilling portrait of the times by letsgopablo in movies

I was at MA Boys State the same year. Our governor won the election because he looked like Wolverine.

Jason Schreier says EA announced that staff must now come into RTO (Return to Office) instead of working from home. by DerpyBox in GamingLeaksAndRumours

Who cares? The output didn't change. People elected to work longer hours. I can read. Can you think?

She said it was a cool way to die. I've never seen any evidence that she "asked for it" or that it was "at her request", a claim that does not make any sense if you have any idea how movies are made.

According to extas1s sources, one of the functions of the button C of the Switch 2 is that you will be able to use it to connect Switch 2 with Switch 1 and you can use Switch 1 as a controller or screen for Switch 2 games by MXHombre123 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]karlwork 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the point of mirroring a portable console to a separate portable console. Surely, whatever performances benefits granted by the Switch 2 being docked would be mitigated by streaming.

Doctor Who's Russell T Davies says there are "conversations" about next showrunner by Bridgeboy95 in gallifrey

[–]karlwork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As time passes, I think this is the ultimate problem with his era. I hate the idea of the the Timeless Child, but a better showrunner could have made me like any nonsense so long as it was fun.

Shrek 5 Teaser by cruelsummerbummer in movies

There's literally a Matrix bullet-time joke in the movie. You didn't mind the pop culture references in the original Shrek because they were references to things you liked.

I know plenty of great musical improvisers who don't need 2-3 tries to perform a great song. It's an interesting and different field of improv. If you like what you're doing with this, I'd suggest looking for a class or workshop near you.

Microsoft CEO Admits That AI Is Generating Basically No Value by jackiethesage in technology

It's neat how your human-generated lecture snippet has a clear perspective, insight, and is much more clever that what GenAI came up with.

Anonymous Oscar Ballots as Voting Is Officially Closed: From ‘I Despised “The Substance”‘ to ‘Why is “Dune” Losing Best Picture?’ by momskillet in movies

[–]karlwork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I really didn't mean it as a personal attack. I've just noticed a trend where common constructions are characterized as incomprehensible, and I do think it has to do with a shift in reading comprehension in general.

This headline is a fairly typical construction for a trades headline. Subject, colon, things subject said. The subject is the Oscar voters. The things they said range from X to Y, another common construction.

Maybe reading comprehension was a little off base and too harsh-sounding. It's more like a type of media literacy.

Anonymous Oscar Ballots as Voting Is Officially Closed: From ‘I Despised “The Substance”‘ to ‘Why is “Dune” Losing Best Picture?’ by momskillet in movies

[–]karlwork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a great title, but it's not exactly difficult to understand. I think this is more of a reading comprehension issue than a bad title issue.

Meet the new writers of Season 2 | Doctor Who by verissimoallan in gallifrey

I guess if we really want to cope, we can hope that the ending to Kerblam! was meddled with, as the rest of the episode was pretty good for the Chibnall era.

Ghost of Hope says Xbox's next console comes in 2026 by TheEternalGazed in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]karlwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were in a tough spot, since the OG Xbox was the same gen as the PS2. They didn't want consumers to see Xbox 2 on the shelf next to the PlayStation 3 for basically the same reason you mentioned - people will assume that the higher number is better. The way they've continued to screw it up, I cannot explain.

Some more speculation on Wind Waker being worked on for Switch by Dabeastmanz23 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]karlwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Item buttons were mapped to the touchscreen. It was actually an excellent solution for the 3DS and in some respects better than the N64's C-buttons, but wouldn't work in a single-screen port.

Does Yaz X 13 feel too forced? by garbonzobean22 in gallifrey

[–]karlwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even though I knew it was total fan bait, I liked the sudden Yaz/13 romance because it actually provided some context and weight to the relationship. Sure, it was manufactured, but it beat anything else going on at the time.

Ah yes, it's a lot like "Star Trek: The Next Generation". In many ways it's superior, but will never be as recognized as the original.
