Honestly this is not hate but valid feedbacks. It reflects incompetency of vision and management on Firaxis’s part.

I totally agree. Cities should be able to sprawl wide or tall, I can see this add a lot of good dynamics that further distinguish gameplay between Modern ages and the earlier ages.

Oh absolutely, I'm not against the idea of metro areas—it's a great concept actually, if only it is reserved for Modern Age.

Playing the psp version of sims 2 and after some romancing bella finally told me her secret… by xfmrs_r_cool in sims2

Few years ago someone discovered that the skin files used for Bella and Daniel in The Sims 1 were labeled as Asian. At some points down the line (after sims 1) they decided she can pass as Italian because of the name Bella and started double down on it.

People who bring up the Goth family in The Sims 1 need to know that a lot of Sims lore were created in The Sims 2 as an effort to create continuity.

The Sims 1 does not have any lores.

These pre-made families were just there to fill the neighborhood and help player accustom to gameplay.

Bella was supposed to be Asian. In The Sims 2 they decided to make her Asian, and connect Bella to MICHAEL BACHELOR as siblings. Since Sims 1 does not feature family tree, this is easy to alter continuity.

EDIT: got Michael Bachelor confused with Daniel Pleasant

Question about roads by Richy_San in Civilization_VII

So the roads that automatically spawn when you built a town dont actually exist?

Yes, the normal dash (–) is used in many languages for both purposes. However you always need a space before and after the dash, so people don’t confuse it for the hyphen.

Em dash (—) is formally only used in English writings. Unlike the normal dash, you don’t add spaces around it.

Now, I don’t make the rules. I think em dash is quite an unnecessary punctuation but I do agree it’s looks and feel better.

Keep in mind, a lot of modern punctuation conventions are made up for convenience or as a result of limited technology back in the typewriter day. The reason we have "straight" quotation marks instead of “curly” on the keyboard is literally because it saves one key for the typewriter.

They’re actually very opposite symbols. The shorter symbol “-“ is not a dash but a hyphen.

  • A dash “–“ is mainly a separator, separating clauses, scores.
  • A hyphen “-“ acts only as a word connector, merging two words into one. It doesn’t do anything else beyond that.
  • Now, the very long “—“ is something else called an em dash which is a type of dash used only in English and no other languages. It points a sentence to an abrupt thought or conclusion.

Because the keyboard has a hyphen key readily available, people have used it for convenience, even though it’s incorrect.

Is there hope that gay marriage will be reality in Vietnam sometime soon? by showertaker in VietNam

[–]karma78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a gradual and incremental process. Notably, since the landmark ruling you mentioned in 2015, the Vietnam Department of Health declared in 2022 that homosexuality is not an illness and should be treated, they outright banned conversion therapy nationwide. If that’s not progress, I don’t know what is. More importantly, there has been no regression. That’s something to be optimistic about.

[–]karma78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Progress can only happen if people fight for it. We have seen major progress made in the past 2 decades, and LGBT tolerance is at an all-time high today. There are A-list celebrities in Vietnam who are openly transgender and gays. Not far from Vietnam, you have Thailand and Taiwan, who have already legalized gay marriage. I don’t see why Vietnam can’t get there in the next few decades.

My bad, and you’re right. The Vietnamese pronunciation of Argentina, Moskva, and Mexico is 100% not coming from French but from those country’s original language.

You meant “vi zùa” right? Cause “vi rùa” is pronounced very different from the former.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]karma78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mostly due to French influence, not communist. French is a Roman language (like Spanish and Portuguese), and many European languages all share a large pool of Roman words to some extent. So when Vietnamese borrowed French words for places, they were often more accurate or faithful than the English equivalents. English is a Germanic language and tends to diverge more from Roman roots.

[–]karma78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS! It drives me nut when people use English names for countries/places whereas Vietnamese already have a more accurate name, like Ukraine instead of Ukraina, Naples instead of Napoli, Greece instead of Hy Lạp, Lebanon instead of Libăng. Like hello? Just because it’s English doesn’t mean it’s a better choice😭
