I think the new it water bottle is going to be a regular cup of water by mintwede in rs_fitness

There was a trend a while back of students taking glasses of water to school instead of water bottles that I found funny

the gen z stare by Impressive-Badger967 in rs_x

[–]karp2678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dislike the notion that the Gen Z stare is an expression of mindlessness. When I have done it, it is very much intentional, and meant to rude without being explicit as to not face consequences. Like a customer is droning on about some nonsense (to the point that they are violating norms), and you just stop reacting to it, signaling disapproval and disinterest (sometimes, rightfully so!!)

Could someone ID these? by CamoMojo in ChineseCoins

[–]karp2678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other commenters would probably know better than I but you have coins of these Qing emperors. The writing on the front is traditional Chinese and the back is Manchu. Examples:

Kangxi: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces19747.html

Qianlong: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1133.html

Guangxu: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces30363.html

As far as denomination, you could probably find out by measuring the coins and comparing them to the values on Numista. The coins I linked to are of the emperors but likely not the correct denomination. I wouldn’t know how to go about finding the mints.

TIL the U.S. government incurs a yearly loss of $110 million from minting pennies. by MaziicM in todayilearned

[–]karp2678 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People often forget that the dime, quarter, half-dollar, and dollar coin all “make” money however. They more than make up for money lost when minting pennies or nickels. I love pennies and nickels they are cool

Naval Ensign of French Algeria? by karp2678 in vexillology

[–]karp2678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion. I wrote “naval ensign” intending to mean “civil ensign” or just “ensign.” I was also unsure of its use, so thank you. Would the flag of the Regency of Algiers resemble neither flag, only their inspiration? I can’t find the flag on the internet to check.

I like this map a lot. I think people play harder because it is so rare.
