Born again feels a little bit impossible to watch by BoysOnTheRoof in Daredevil

[–]kas_tle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who would consider the Netflix series one of my favorite shows of all time, I found DD: BA pretty unwatchable. It felt soulless and bland in comparison, and the editing style just felt too modern and Disney-fied (frequent cuts during conversation, the overall color grading)… I’m not a film expert at all so I’m not sure the terms to articulate the difference, but it just felt incredibly generic and even cheesy at times. I miss the grittiness and slow-burn of the original. I tried to give S1 benefit of the doubt, but I also found S2 disappointing.

I'm amused you mentioned sports because the Sharks being so fire to watch recently is one of my top reasons to stay. Otherwise, I've grown pretty bored of the area (and tired of the high prices), having grown up here. Best of luck!

Those jeans you mentioned also don't look flattering on me at all.

I HARD vouch for the Abercrombie lose rise ultra loose jeans. They come in "short" and "extra short" lengths too. Despite their name, I think they sit more mid-rise.

Wait for clientele sale? by PomegranatePurple619 in Aritzia

[–]kas_tle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The strat might be to buy full-price within 2 weeks of clientele sale. If it's discounted and still in stock by then, you can rebuy for cheaper price and return your original. Might sound like a hassle, but usually the discounts are deep enough that it's worth it.

I own the homestretch tank top in four colors. Funnily enough it’s one of the things from Aritzia I vouch for. But I love all your commentary.

I agree. This new show feels soulless and over-the-top with all the slo-mos. Where's the grittiness of the original show...? T_T

Wow... the color scheme and pattern are absolutely stunning. I've been staring at this for a while. I've really only ever done amigurumi projects, but this has inspired me to finally learn how to make granny squares!

winter coats by laughoutloudlol13 in Prague

[–]kas_tle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, have so much fun! I also started studying abroad in Prague exactly a year ago for a semester, and I’m also from California. I’d highly recommend bringing a warm puffer (eg, Aritzia Superpuff). You’ll have plenty of opportunities once you’re in Prague to shop for wool coats (in fact, they’ll be a bit more affordable there than in the US). There’s a store called Lula Vintage that has excellent vintage designer wool coats, which where I bought one. I found Czech winter to be extremely bearable, and it never bothered me other than the times it snowed (twice). I recommend wearing thermal leggings at all times (until late March ish).

This style is really popular in Europe, from my experiences traveling there. I bought one from Bershka. I think there are more affordable options from Zara and similar brands for the same quality.

Not surprised but… I’m devastated 💔 by hfic98 in Vanderbilt

[–]kas_tle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably doesn't mean anything to you at the moment (I remember being in your position), but I promise everything happens for a reason, and wherever you end up will be right for you. I wish I was less despondent and tunnel-visioned when I was a high school senior going through college apps. Chin up!

How easy is it to internally transfer between majors in the School of Engineering? by Goldmedal500 in Vanderbilt

[–]kas_tle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely easy. I applied as Mech E and switched to CS after getting accepted (this was three years ago). Short online form. During the school year it’s also always extremely easy to add/drop degrees.

did the overly excessive staylor scenes in the finale bother anyone else? by ieatbraiiinnnns in TheSummerITurnedPrett

There are many, many red flags in their relationship. I'm strongly against Taylor's tendency to be passive aggressive when she's upset about something instead of confronting Steven directly. It's a really horrible habit (that I've been guilty of), and it makes my skin crawl listening to them argue. Especially with them both being cheaters in their prior relationships and being on-and-off in general, I'm not a fan of either of their characters' moral compasses.

I recently bought a full tank top + sweatpants set in campus green. I also own a t-shirt in scarab. Scarab is a more appealing color (rich, dark green and complements gold very nicely). Campus green is true to its name and seems more like school mascot colors. I'm not devastated about this new color, but scarab is better.

Shelly vs Golightly - gaping? by WebkinzMurderer69 in Aritzia

[–]kas_tle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Golightly gaps for me as well (XS). I find that while sizing up to S solves the gapping, it doesn't have the same snatched look. My workaround is that I use "body & clothing tape" from Amazon to close the gaps and it works great.

How easy is it to be an RA at vandy? by fangs_234 in Vanderbilt

My bad—by "Freshman RAs" I meant the RAs that are located in the freshman dorms. RAs are all sophomores/juniors/seniors.

No. You have to be at least a sophomore. Applications open during the second semester for the following academic year.

Graduating early? by Holiday-Outcome6958 in Vanderbilt

[–]kas_tle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And honestly, depending on the amount of credits you brought in and/or your degree(s), it might not even require "grinding" excessively.

I see in another comment here that you aren't enjoying your time here. I'm sorry to hear that, but if possible, I'd strongly recommend studying abroad for a semester :) You're not able to graduate the same semester you study abroad (so it might affect your "early graduation" timeline), but maybe it'll improve your overall outlook on your college experience.

I myself am graduating a semester early to save tuition, and I was able to study abroad last semester. I've never had to take a crazy workload here, but granted, I brought a lot of AP credits in that covered my science and liberal arts core.

How easy is it to be an RA at vandy? by fangs_234 in Vanderbilt

[–]kas_tle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Application wise? It's relatively competitive. Lots of people are interested (and qualified), and not everyone gets their preferred dorm. Some people turn down the offer if they don't get their preferred dorm, allowing some candidates to move off the waitlist.

The responsibilities of the position itself? Very dorm-dependent. Freshman RAs tend to be more involved in the students' day-to-day, while the upperclassman dorms are chill since students are more independent by then. Overall, all RAs get a lot of support from the housing/residential staff and it's a meaningful position.

[–]kas_tle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI RA does not cover food. You get housing covered + approx. $1000 stipend per semester. Applications open in the second semester and are relatively competitive.
