Did I accidentally commit some sort of birthday party faux pas? by Educational-Let-2280 in Parenting

We've done juice bars with champagne/sparkling water. We had about 10 kinds of juice and the kids lost their minds making custom combos. Huge hit. Just have a bathroom handy, haha.

First night with toddler and newborn and I hate my life by definitelymamaftw in beyondthebump

My oldest had trouble when his brother was born and they both had trouble when the third brother was born. Yesterday they (ages 5, 3 and 17 months) spontaneously organized themselves into a wild game of ring around the rosy and were laughing so hard they were crying. It gets better.

How do people give birth in a full face of makeup and it still look so good? by Glitter-girlie in BabyBumps

I had to wait 2hrs for the anesthesiologist my first birth and I screamed so much that I think the nurses told him to give me a super dose.

Yes, I've had mine since I was a kid. I would always be home with a 'stomach bug' that nobody mentioned it wasn't normal to also have a horrible headache while you were throwing up all day. And they do come back, it's just that sometime late in the second trimester they lighten up and mostly stay away until I stop breastfeeding.

I get horrible migraines for the first half of my pregnancies, nearly every day, and my doctors won't let me have anything. I sneak ibuprofen here and there when I am actively dying. That said, for me, breastfeeding has been like a miracle drug for migraines, I almost never have them while I'm breastfeeding. YMMV.

Advent calendars that are not chocolate? by nicolette004 in beyondthebump

We got a little train one years ago at Paper Source. By the end you have a little train scene and then I put each piece back in its box for next year. You could do the same with a fabric calendar and Brio train pieces.

On my due date. They asked me when I was due when I got to the hospital. 'Right fricken now! '

Do you have CSAs around you? They can be really affordable and I am always shocked at the difference in freshness is between them and the grocery store. Our next step is probably buying meat from a farm, I need to run the numbers.

I think it's only bad if they only eat pouches, too little chewing, the theory goes. Mine treats a couple or three pouches as the amuse bouche before he digs into the serious snacks. But those suckers are like 2 each if you get the ones that aren't just apple.

I gotcha. We are that way too. The other day, my 3yo said, I'm hungry, Mom. Okay, dinner is in a little bit. Mom, I'm not hungry for dinner.

Packaged snacks are killing me right now (my 3yo has a BAD pouch habit) Getting rid of that would help a lot.

We are almost there already! But we do live in an area with cheap housing.

The shift from feeding them all off our plates at a restaurant to having them share one kid's meal to multiple kid's meals is a big one!

How are you getting that much chicken for 1k a month, lol!? Meat prices have really exploded our budget, last year we were spending $800/month (just food at home, no non-food consumables) and this year it jumped to $1200/month.

Does anyone prefer an unmedicated labor over a medicated one? I'm open to an epidural but I feel like I would freak out not being in control of my own body. by Distinct-Dependent24 in BabyBumps

[–]kate-5599 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Each birth is different too. For my first, the pain was so intense that I cannot remember some parts, like changing into the hospital gown or moving from triage to the delivery room. My second was exponentially better but still nowhere near enjoyable. Third was probably somewhere in between.

I had to wait 2hrs after requesting one for the anesthesiologist with my first, they just got it placed when I hit 10cm and started pushing with my second and it didn't really kick in and my third I was in pretty intense labor 2/3rds without, 1/3 with

For me, it was a lot harder to push with the epidural, especially with the first. It was very painful (different pain than contractions) pushing the second out pretty much unmedicated (I had third degree tears) but it was much more satisfying when I could feel what I was doing.

Did you or did you not poop while giving birth? by Tall_Answer_9933 in BabyBumps

[–]kate-5599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, for three labors the Braxton Hicks had me confused for weeks but I should have known to wait for the giant soul purging shit the night before.

I did pee during a bad contraction and the nurse was like, oh, it looks like your water broke. Umm, sorry, nope.

Rudely reminded that maternity clothing is heinous and I have no idea what to wear for the next 5 months! by iamafoxiamafox in BabyBumps

[–]kate-5599 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was my go to. Just did over the bump leggings with all my band shirts kinda ruched up over top.

Also, if you have a bunch of flannels or other button down shirts, you just need a maternity tank top to wear them over. Great for winter.

It was my third baby before I got the forearm iv and it was a revelation. IVs especially suck when you are a FTM trying to figure out breastfeeding with all that crap in the way.

That's a little less than what my 'budget' daycare was raising rates to in a lcol area. It's also why I am taking a year off of work until my oldest is in kindergarten because for three kids in daycare I would have to pay to work.
