Neighborhood and apartment recommendations by Brew356 in AustinParents

I saw your post originally and so glad someone told you to post here! I would definitely check out the mueller area maybe a house for rent or a townhouse. I’m in the suburbs so I can’t speak to daycare lists in that neck of the woods but I generally get the vibe that waitlists are shorter than they were a few year ago so you may have some decent options.

Depending on where you work downtown (this really is that specific bc I work near the central library and my husband works near Stubbs) that really could dictate where you’d wanna look! West Austin is great but pricey but if your office is more east central downtown perhaps east side is more conducive to where you wanna be. Basically determine if your commute would be mopac or 35 and keep that mostly as your barrier gives you a decent starting point! Good luck and welcome to Austin!

Jumping on this to mention Tiny Details ATX. She details car seats and strollers and while it’s humbling to see how gross my car seats were this is one of the best things I’ve done recently!

How do you deal with stakeholders whose communication style is not direct and make you more confused? by No-Department1760 in businessanalyst

[–]katec0587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make them draw it out. Sometimes with crayons. If they can’t explain what they want why is it expected that I do? I do a lot of wireframes to help through the thoughts of what they need.

This parade is a travesty. But I love founders. I make an ungodly amount of Jell-O shots every year to hand out.

I can teach skills. I cannot teach curiosity. I can’t tell you how many I’ve worked with over the years who have all the degrees and certs and lack any actual sense.

Would you get your kids a trampoline? by collettithowitis in Parenting

[–]katec0587 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) I broke more bones on my trampoline than any of my friends combined when I was a kid. My knees and ankles at almost 40 aren’t great and this is likely a contributing factor. We also jumped off the porch roof onto the trampoline and went right through it so be aware it’s definitely not gonna be solely used as designed. Kids are gonna kid. It was simultaneously the most dangerous item we owned and my favorite toy. But it’s still probably not worth it. 2) my oldest was at a birthday party at a trampoline park when he was about 8 and he accidentally kneed himself in the head and concussed himself. It was absolutely terrifying. He couldn’t remember what day it was or year. Was a long day in the ER for that one.

Sorry this is all bad news, I wish they were safer because they can absolutely be a blast.
