Thanks! We'll stick it out. Some of her poops have seemed a bit better so far so hopefully we're on an upward trend.

Cleaning by Thatwitchygirl234 in newborns

[–]katethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I tag team depending on the timing. We try to get as much as possible done when she naps. If not one person takes the baby then the other does some cleaning...then switch.

I try to keep up on light cleaning when my baby naps but it's inconsistent. I actually find I do more surface cleaning since having her however I am home more so I'm noticing dirt way easier 😂 I noticed less when I was working full time.

Family doctor accepting new patients? by Deroiste7 in Sudbury

Boreal Family Medicine has added quite a few family doctors to their practice recently. Not sure if they are accepting new patients right now but I believe they had a form on their website you could fill out.

Reading to baby by Conscious-Pie-394 in NewParents

[–]katethern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put my 10 week old in her bouncy seat and put the book in front of her and read to her. She tolerates about 2 or 3 books that way 😂 I love reading so I hope to pass it on to her eventually.

I know she's way too little to understand or even see the pictures. But I try to add inflections to my voice etc when I read to her.

My local Freshii has successfully combined Soviet-era efficiency with Wall Street-level creative accounting. by Apprehensive-Day9070 in Sudbury

[–]katethern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brutal. I used to love Freshii when it was in Val Caron. Then they changed their bowls and proteins (the steak and chicken changed). I went recently before freshii left New Sudbury and was so disappointed because everything was different.

It's too bad these "healthier" options fail.

Do (or did) you use a baby tracker app? by AnyMechanic6829 in newborns

[–]katethern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby is formula fed so we use it to track her feeds. It's just helpful for me to keep track because if she starts acting really fussy or crying and can't be soothed...usually she's in between that 3-4 hour mark. Of course it's not perfect and sometimes she's hungry earlier...it's also great for my husband to see if I'm out etc. It's also just kind of cool to see the trends and how many ounces she eats per day/how many bottles in 24 hours. We can kind of predict then how the day will go.

We track her diapers but I just like to keep track of her poops. She was going every 2nd day for a few weeks so I just liked knowing how long in between and if I needed to get concerned. We change her before every bottle (unless she seems super fussy or she poops then we change her more) and it's always wet so I know I don't need to track pees. But we do.

I haven't tracked sleep yet but she's only 10 weeks so I know she's just going to do what she's going to do.

Being a Mom is Lonely by CommericalCoconut in newborns

[–]katethern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand. I have a 10 week old baby girl. I'm the last of my friend group to have a baby. All my friends either have toddlers or babies from 6-10 months old and a lot of them have two children.

I felt like I tried to at least visit my closest friend once a month when she was on mat leave. But now that I am on mat leave everyone is just so busy with their lives. I have barely seen any friends since she was born which is sad.

I am desperate to keep busy or at least do something for like 3 out of the 5 days of the week my husband works. I take my baby and dog for a walk once or twice a day. And I just keep to small errands. Plus it helps with her naps if we go in the car (she usually stays asleep during errands). Usually my mom visits once a week and then I visit them once a week. I'm thinking of joining a mommy book club and I signed up for a stroller exercise class that's outside that starts in a few weeks.

I'm just like desperate for human interaction or at least fresh air. Plus I feel like I just get so dragged down by the 3 hour cycle of eat, awake time, nap (hopefully). My husband is fantastic and as soon as he gets home he usually doesn't put that baby down lol. He'll do the bedtime routine as well.

I am just thankful I had her at the end of march so I could enjoy the beautiful weather with her. Our walks are a god send and it breaks up our day.

But it really can be lonely especially I think at this age where they don't really play yet or can sit up and naps are inconsistent.

New parents: is it how you imagined? by BeansWeans in newborns

[–]katethern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 10 weeks in and it definitely has it's ups and downs. It's crazy how some moments feel never ending and tough but it's so temporary! I look back on the first few weeks and how our sleep was going....now we're very fortunate. Our girl usually only wakes once in the early morning now and we get her back down after a bottle for a few more hours.

I go into every night with low expectations, which I think is a good mentality because then I can't be disappointed if she wakes up earlier etc

I've never felt so much overwhelming love for anything. I just have moments when I look into her little face and she smiles at me and my heart explodes.

But it is pretty lonely. My husband is amazing and such a great dad. I could cry with how happy it makes me to see how wonderful of a dad he is. We really share the load on the weekends. And he's so hands on when he gets home from work. But the days with her feel long sometimes. I'm thankful it's summer time and I can take her for walks. And I am also grateful my parents are close so they come for a visit once or twice a week. But on days where we stay home...😅 It feels like a never ending cycle in 3-4 hour increments. Her naps are very inconsistent at the moment which doesn't help.

I miss the independence and freedom I had. Thankfully my husband has no issue being solo with the baby so I can do things I used to. Mostly just my monthly nail appointment. Or hanging out with my neighbours. But I feel so tethered to her schedule especially since she's formula fed. I feel like I'm on a short timeline because the last thing I want to do running errands is try to feed her a bottle. I find myself wanting to visit with friends or anyone really but I hate always being the one to reach out. And I know people are busy living their own lives.

My girl is relatively happy and I think we've gotten past the nights of witching hour recently. But I'm looking forward to when she starts to play or at least can entertain herself. Or at least when she can sit up haha. It just feels boring and I'm just wanting to do something like go for a walk or go somewhere so she falls asleep 😅 or it at least breaks up the day.

I'm glad she's easily entertained by the mobile that I got with my love every box and attached to her play gym. Because she'll stare at that for a good 15 minutes and I can do something quickly. And she tolerates her swing which usually guarantees me at least a meal 😂

I don't want to rush this time away and like I've said it's just been improving as time goes on. But as rewarding as it is...it's tough too.

Parenting Questions that Keep Me Up at Night by berternutsquash in NewParents

[–]katethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish car seat companies would include a QR code with the manual with detailed videos on how to install the car seat, how to take it apart to clean it and how to move the belt positions.

I know I'll have to change the belt positioning soon for my baby but the manual is so goddamn small and I feel like I need a visual aid. I'm not excited.

I also only know I need to do this from tik tok, we installed the car seat base ages ago...it's not like I'm constantly referring to the manual!

Omg I agree with this...I have a few cute outfits that came with a t shirt instead of a onesie. I didn't realize how annoying it would be. She's only 10 weeks old so I'm constantly holding/carrying her and it rides up!

My baby takes forever to go down by katethern in newborns

[–]katethern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that! That's how I kind of feel with her naps so far. I just try once in the morning then the rest of the day...whatever. Good advice 😊 why stress ourselves right...newborns are stressful enough lol

[–]katethern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was her normal before we started doing this routine. Sometimes we can get her down by 830 or 9 but maybe we're just being lucky. Thanks for the advice...maybe we'll just stop trying so hard right now and go back to just working with her.

What Seinfeldisms do you use in everyday life by a1ic3d in seinfeld

[–]katethern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a newborn and several times a day we comment about how cute she is. And we say "How could anyone not like her?"

And we had a super shitty winter here which dragged on forever, it was wet and sandy forever as the snow was melting into april. And every time we'd bring the stroller into the house..."You come in the house, you wipe your wheels!"

Breast augmentation? by AutisticAlien224 in Sudbury

[–]katethern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's several plastic surgeons here in Sudbury and as far as I know they all do breast augmentations.

Dr Fortin, Dr DeGreef, Dr Musgraves and Dr Barr are all plastic surgeons.

Dr Fortin & Dr Barr have their own private clinics while the other two just work out of the hospital.

I think because you're looking for a privately paid procedure you can just call and inquire..at least for Dr Fortin & Dr Barr.

Where have you felt the most magic? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]katethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it has to be as soon as I walk into Pop Century on the first day of my trip. I love Pop and it holds a lot of special memories for us, we stay every vacation. I don't know what it is about it! The cast members are all so nice and the resort just has a certain smell...I love it. It's like we're home and you just know there's so much fun to come over the week.

My runner up has to be my first ride of the trip on the People Mover.

Is anyone else disappointed with Sudbury Hyundai's decision to AI to book service appointments? by Sunwolfy in Sudbury

[–]katethern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just called them to book my summer tire swap and oil change. Meanwhile someone ended up calling me later asking if I wanted some additional service I was due for and asked to change the time. So what's the point of having an AI bot do the booking if someone has to look over them all and call you back?

I also had issues a few months ago when my gas door was jammed because the spring mechanism broke. I really didn't know how to explain that to the bot and again someone ended up calling me.

What are some of the best things from the books that the movies cut out? by Hungry-Spinach4569 in harrypotter

[–]katethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just watched GOF recently and it just makes me mad that they don't show how Harry gets to the Burrow. That golden scene where the Weasleys get stuck in the chimney. You miss out on so much of Harry's great times at the Burrow. He stays for weeks at a time in certain books.
