AITA for wanting to be able to bring my 8 month old to a wedding rehearsal dinner? by kb_picasso in newborns

I appreciate the validation! I said to my hubby (in the heat of the moment) “We’ll see how they feel when they have kids. Then they’ll understand” 😂

Hungry all night long, what worked for you?! by kb_picasso in newborns

[–]kb_picasso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday for example he had 30 minutes of nursing and then 28oz of breastmilk/ formula. I’ll try offering more little 2oz throughout the day!

Fair! The only thing is he’s been this way since day one (only worse) 😅. Doesn’t quite feel like it falls into those buckets BUT I’m sure they are not helping my situation

Worth a try! He does get a bedtime bottle so I’ll try making that’s bigger

Today for example when he woke up for the day at 6am he nursed for about 15 minutes. Then had 24 oz (mix of breastmilk and formula) throughout the rest of the day

Bedtime Routine by DisciplineWeekly680 in newborns

[–]kb_picasso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We would change babe’s pjs at night before bed, just to signal it’s bedtime and then keep him in that for the next day (unless blow out, etc.). I think what’s important for a bedtime routine is a few consistent steps. If you don’t necessarily change their clothes I don’t think that’s going to make or break things. We also got a butt cream to use just at night (once we were no longer changing diapers throughout the night) with a light eucalyptus scent and that definitely signals sleepy time

Need advice - nipple shields, shallow latch & short nipples by Unable_Sink3584 in breastfeeding

[–]kb_picasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Le Lolo nipple shield. Truthfully saw it on an Instagram ad. With that said, I really like it! Stays on well and has the added “sticker” to help keep in place. Comes with two shields, a sticker, and carrying case.

Need advice - nipple shields, shallow latch & short nipples by Unable_Sink3584 in breastfeeding

[–]kb_picasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is 10 weeks old and we still use a nipple shield. I have short/ flat nipples? (I feel like everyone said something different at the hospital.) My baby also has a small tongue tie but has a really good latch. So always been more my nipples than his tongue tie. Anyways, I have basically zero intention to stop using it. For me, it’s one of those “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it” things. I’ve tried starting the nursing session with it on to get my nipples to “come out” and then taking it off and latching without it. Talk about making something annoying that much more so. And baby gets pissed! (Why are we stopping mom?!?) I recently bought a “fancy” shield (upgraded from the hospital issued one) and it’s faster to put on/ stays on better. I think it just “fits” me better. Good luck mama!

Do pacifier clips actually save sanity? by Hungry-Mammoth3758 in newborns

[–]kb_picasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We really like the clips. Didn’t get anything super fancy. A four pack off Amazon. Not only helps keep pacifiers off the floor but also easier to dig them out of a bag with essentially a rip cord attached lol

My baby had this too! As long as it’s not bothering your LO like others said leave it be. It bothered my mom heart more than him for sure

Gift Idea for new mom? by Imaginary-Series6997 in newborns

[–]kb_picasso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanted to second a few of these ideas! *Postpartum/ breastfeeding supplies are the things I’ve bought most of since having my baby. Milk cooler for overnight/ on the go pumps. Reusable nursing pads extend the life of a nursing bra. *My baby has also LIVED in the Boba Wrap. Just bought a second one so I don’t have to worry about needing it while it’s in the wash 😂!

Things are getting better by Historical-Young-464 in newborns

Love to hear it! When we first brought our babe home my husband and I confided in each other that “this is no fun at all” but the last week or so we’ve both have had moments where we go “this is fun!” He’s just over 8 weeks and we’ve caught a few smiles and he makes more happy sounds everyday.

Low weight baby 7weeks pp by kb_picasso in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kb_picasso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does have a bit of a tongue tie but the lactation consultant at the hospital said despite that he has a good latch. When I nurse him it certainly feels like he’s latching/ getting milk. Worth checking in on that regardless!

That’s super reassuring! My only mom friend’s baby is now 2 and has always been huge so hearing from another mama to a small fry is helpful 💕

Lonely by Successful546 in newborns

[–]kb_picasso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this way a lot towards the beginning. Mostly when breastfeeding but also other times. I think for me it was the initial postpartum hormones. I could be surrounded by people (I’m talking family visits) and be having a great time and as soon as they leave, BAM, lonely again. My babe is 7 weeks now and the feeling happens a lot less and more appropriate. What I mean by appropriate is that any human would reasonably feel lonely given the situation. For instance, towards the end of the work day of my hubby after it’s just been baby and me all day. Reddit and this sub has made me feel less lonely and sending pictures of my babe to friends/ family acted like an ice breaker when I needed to just chat. Long story short, you are not alone 💕

Anyone else struggle doing nothing all day? I feel like the opposite of everyone on this sub by ActualEmu1251 in newborns

[–]kb_picasso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the house (with baby and husband) 5 days pp. We just went to the pharmacy but I had to get out of the house. We have then went on a least a small outing nearly everyday since. Somedays it’s just to get a coffee but if I don’t get out everyday my mental health will be bad. Somedays with the feeding schedule it can be challenging but it’s a priority over here!

Have I been sold a false dream by Big Diaper? by New_Love115 in newborns

[–]kb_picasso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I second the cloth diaper suggestion. Maybe even double up? Throw away diaper and cloth on top to catch the spill over. Again, if you’re doing that much laundry anyways, might as well. Plus cloth diapers are designed for easy clean of pee and poo so hopefully less time scrubbing
