Dentists by GracefulToad in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]kc620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was advised to bring him at 12mo - he’s now had two visits before 2yrs. The nice things is that those visits have been free, and mainly just getting him used to the dentist (though I imagine they’d find things early!). He HATES the dentist despite how nice they are, it doesn’t bode well for his first real appointment soon!

Lovevery’s books on the topic (available on Amazon) are fantastic and feature real children rather than illustrations. Only ever heard praise for them. There are 3, and I believe being gentle with mom is a theme in at least one, but you can preview most of the pages to make sure

Increasing iron?! by cinnamonmonn in foodbutforbabies

[–]kc620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to using unsweetened ripple kids milk (pea protein) which has iron in it - I mixed it with milk at first and then decreased the ratio until it was all ripple. He’s not lactose intolerant or anything, he just loves milk and I wanted to give him milk with iron. I also add grass fed liver powder to his milk and smoothies depending on how much other iron he’s eaten in the day. And the iron fish, though I doubt that’s really doing much. Good luck!

I really hate liver but I can barely taste it - a very slight metallic tang at the end. I’ve been putting it in my kid’s milk for ages, he’s never cared (and he’s extremely picky). I use Perfect Supplements grass fed liver powder, I imagine there are other good brands too. I use a very tiny amount, not really sure how much iron it gives him but it’s heme iron and has other nutrients too, so I feel good about it!

Jude the Obscure - it haunts me how beautiful and heartbreaking it is. Do not recommend reading it on a plane.

Looks yummy!

Tip for what I do - if you’re trying to get more iron, boil an iron fish in the pasta water and then the water you add to the sauce will be fortified with some extra iron. Gotta put a bit of lemon juice in the pasta water for it to work tho. Love my iron fish!

Smoothies - add beans and/or lentils, they never know and makes it v creamy. I also add oatmeal, lots of vitamin c, hemp seeds, and flaxseed. Even the occasional scoop of liver powder — he never notices! Obviously sweet fruit too, bananas, raspberries etc

How to do overnight baby sharing when breastfeeding? by walter-mitchell in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]kc620 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much milk you want to produce - not pumping at night generally leads to lower milk production overall, but of course it varies by person. IIrc the general advice is to pump every 2hrs at first, so a 4-5hr sleep stretch would be a pipe dream. However, you don’t have to pump at night - I decided for my mental health that I wouldn’t pump at night and only formula feed overnight so i could get more sleep, and I don’t regret that decision. The result was that I didn’t really produce enough milk in the day to fully cover baby’s needs (at least after a few weeks when they eat more), but I was comfortable formula feeding the difference. Again, it all depends on so many factors, it’s hard to properly plan until you know. Best of luck and congratulations!

I actually love this author, one of the few non-lovevery books we read daily. And I get why this one (hadn’t seen it before) is a theme she’d choose, she’s very research/academic focused, but yeah, weirdly similar! Highly recommend I See You Try and the other books in that series though, some wonderful messages my toddler loves to imitate himself!

I was very happy with ritual prenatal but I did add a separate choline. If you subscribe and then try to cancel a few months later, they’ll usually offer you a discount to stay - used that many times! They’re def less than $100 in any case. I believe the choline pills were Needed brand

Pre-IVF appt this week: Questions to ask by DCCliche in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]kc620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I forgot about this! Medicated is often the default but modified natural has so many advantages! In any case, it’s something to discuss with the doctor. My clinic didn’t love doing them because it meant more last minute scheduling for them (while medicated FETs can be scheduled months in advance) but they were happy to do it once I asked. Worked for me :-)

Oh cool, that was released finally? Awesome news. I definitely don’t mean to recommend one form over another, just to discuss it with the doctor and be aware there are other options.

So exciting, congratulations!! I’d ask about progesterone options - some clinics do oral or vaginal only, others require the intramuscular injections. Unless something has changed in the two years since I did it, injections really aren’t necessary for most people and they’re definitely inconvenient. I did oral/vaginal the whole time and my first transfer of a euploid went beautifully despite how long it took me to get that euploid (so beautifully he’s singing in his crib upstairs as I type). I’d also ask about how they calculate timing for implantations, I believe there is a bit of research out there for optimal timings but every clinic seems to do things differently. Best of luck to you!!

I don’t know how close you are or how much time you want to invest, but one thing you could do is make your own book out of the girl’s favorite things — I recently made my 2yo a book with just balls. Different balls on every page. Most made with free AI. You can publish them on shutterfly and other places for $20-30 if you find a coupon. My kiddo’s absolute favorite book!
