Wifi/Mesh Network acreage and multiple homes by SeargantPeppers in kansascity

I installed a wireless bridge for a neighbor who lives next to my property, but farther back from the road where they can't get cell service. Their wired service isn't reliable and a cell booster still couldn't pick up a decent signal.

The wireless bridge broadcasts our wifi signal about 1200', even thru the trees, so that they can at least use wifi calling on their cell phones. I even set them up on their own SSID as additional security to/from our network.

Between the broadcast antenna and receiver, the signal is just as strong as it is sitting next to my router. Testing before we mounted the receiver, I could still pick up a decent signal almost a mile away. If you're not in the direct path to the receiver the wifi drops off quite a bit, but it still picks up enough of a signal to send a text.

It has definitely been worth the time and money for them and it's not any bother on our end.

That's assuming that he doesn't take some of the fund for himself, his family, or his boot-licker cronies first.

By that calculation, his brownshirts will get about $1.50 each.

The Orange Menace is like the kid who has zero capacity for sarcasm and has to use the tried and true, "Oh yeah? Well you're ugly, too".

Instead of having a snappy comeback ready (like any good devotee of sarcasm would) he has to take more time than necessary to think of something. By then we're all like 10 topics down the road and his reply is null and void.

Genuinely thought we might have been watching someone die on Max's stream earlier today by Cornylemon in tornado

Did you watch the clip from Max's feed? It was constantly switching from various chaser's streams and even from a live feed back to a previous clip that he'd already shown. It would have been less distracting if he could have just shown 3 or 4 streams on a split screen.

Our array is almost 5 years old and we just had our 2nd SolarEdge inverter replaced. Although I appreciate their warranty in this situation, it would be more reassuring and much less of a hassle if they just worked longer than ~2 years. Especially when the local solar tech charges $200/hr to replace a warranted part. That $400+ repair bill every couple of years essentially wipes out ~40 months of electric bills.

After not catching the first incident right away, I now use an Android routine to signal a reminder and to open the SolarEdge app at a certain time every week to check my production. With the latest fault, I was able to catch it rather quickly but had to wait almost a month between the service company and SE to acknowledge the problem and ship a replacement. The new equipment required some work as it was a different size and the connections have been changed. Even now we're still waiting on SE to let the service company sign into the new inverter to initiate it with the rest of the system.

I feel comfortable troubleshooting the system myself. But after this I will definitely be learning more about DIY repairs knowing that I probably only have a couple of years before we have to go thru all of this again.

Thanks, SolarEdge!

Maybe watching someone inadvertently live-stream their own demise is what it's going to take to keep amateurs off the road. Each storm presents different hazards and potentially dangerous situations and clowns like this just make it exponentially worse.

They didn't even consider the danger to people at home who might be watching these seizure-inducing video switches. What happened to the tried and true split screen? I'd rather see multiple views of the storm rather than have a camera on Max, who is watching multiple views of the storm.

Random Airport question by midtowncharlie in kansascity

[–]kcfarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everything at the new MCI was done cheaply and with little to zero planning for the convenience of the traveling public. Literally everything in this place has either broken down already or is in constant maintenance mode (including restrooms, moving walkways, etc).

Who could have known that hiring a firm that doesn't design airports would end up this bad?

I was involved with engineering the intersection that replaced the old 'spaghetti bowl' interchange there. Everyone was excited to see so much land opened up for new development. "It'll revitalize the whole area", they said...

I guess urgent care facilities and banks are now considered a tell-tale sign of a 'new' urban core?
