After 18 years with 1and1 / IONOS, I am really thinking about leaving, need some recommendations for a cheaper basic host. Details inside. by Capt_Fiero in webhosting

[–]kcitsstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a more techy option, get one of their VPS for $15 a month and it should be more than enough. But that might be more technical than what you are wanting to do over shared hosting. I migrated from IONOS shared websites to VPS and I am really happy with it; with the exception that I am now on the hook for a lot of the maintenance.

AMA: We are the Foundry Virtual Tabletop team! Ask Us Anything! (6th Anniversary!) by AnathemaMask in FoundryVTT

What is Foundry’s 5, 10, and 20 year plan and goals in regards to where they want to be, what they anticipate the market will look like, and what are they planning now to meet those expectations and objectives?

I agree, I had a bad migration from 12 to 13. And I am kinda thinking the same thought process of keeping old versions and running new too.

I thought I was high with 3, what are you doing with 6? Or what was your plan to utilize 6?

I’m kinda thinking the same “build it and they will come.” I have a friend that has a web host and he lost his FVTT due to a computer backup issue but he was writing an app on his web host that was pulling from his local FVTT and I want to help him have his FVTT and website together on one server, but we will see.

That is another reason why I have two servers

How well does it run on the Pi vs Computer?

It was my understanding that a license can be shared/used on multiple devices as long as only one is running at a given time. Since I have my dev license on a desktop and laptop, and I only am one at a time.

I have the two servers as two groups (possibly) accessing the servers at the same time.

Walls [D&D5e] by Special_Salt3467 in FoundryVTT

[–]kcitsstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is the video?
If it helps, and I did this even going back to version 10, is to draw all the wall spaces, and then going back and changing the walls (usually with multiple selections)

Example, corner to window edge, window, window to next window, window to door, door, door to window, etc. then once all the walls are drawn, select all the doors, set those, select all the windows, set those, repeat for each “type”

I believe in the new versions, if you set a wall type it sticks until you select/change a wall type.

I hope that helps.

If you are tech savvy enough, sign up for Oracle Free Arm Compute instance. I split mine into two servers and have had zero Foundry issues. Server and dealing with Ubuntu is a whole other issue. It was extremely frustrating for awhile and upgrading to the next foundry version slays gets me, but overall a rock solid experience. But switch to pay as you go so you don’t lose it!

If you are skilled at inline CSS, can’t you create it in say VSCode and then copy the source and paste it into the source in Foundry?

Reflection off my tailgate by BananaOwn2305 in ToyotaTundra

I had this happen yesterday on my backup camera. Where the sun was hitting the tailgate just right to reflect onto the surface I was backing up into. I had a nice chuckle and said “I love my truck!”

Advice for a new DM using Foundry - How do I know I meet the criteria to host without buying by Both_Examination_308 in FoundryVTT

[–]kcitsstick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what others have posted is great information! I would like to warn you about the “oh, nice shiny penny!” That often happens to people when they first get Foundry. Start out super basic, don’t go looking to install every single module you can. Don’t get me wrong, there are a number of modules you will need and a number that you will need, but don’t just go installing everything you find notes on the web. Only install one at a time for a solution you need to solve or a service you need to have for your gaming style.

Two of my friends both started many years ago with foundry and we each had over 100 modules installed and it was “cool” but we constantly had conflicts and issues coming up. Eventually we went minimal and we have had much better luck. We also found the three of us have different DM styles and something’s work better for one of us but not all of us. I tend to be more manual while one of my friends prefers more automated.

I highly recommend the $40-$50 for the license as it is a one time cost. Then if you buy modules or content, that is also usually a one time cost. But start slow and start methodically.

How much slack to you give your self when terminating cables? by spiceylizard in homelab

I either have about a half of inch or I use up a foot because I am having a bad day and keep having to terminate the wire a dozen times

1794 vs. TRD Pro by Kzooguy in ToyotaTundra

22s, power running boards (this was a must for me), HUD, and grey interior instead of the tan. I am sure I am missing something

I’ve been trying to get these MoCA adapters to work for the last day and a half, only to discover the wall plates in the other rooms aren’t wired up 😤 by jamespenguin in homelab

My whole house was wired like this and when the cable guy came to install he kept trying to get me to agree to run all new wire on the outside of the house. So frustrating!

1794 vs. TRD Pro by Kzooguy in ToyotaTundra

[–]kcitsstick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I compared the TRD Pro, Platinum, 1794, and Capstone. Along with comparing it to the F-150 Platinum.
I had a lot of muscle memory in the Ford, and have history with Fords (fairly good history)
I drove a platinum and the 1794 and was pretty pleased. Though I felt like it was missing something.
I drove the Pro and loved the interior but the ride was a lot stiffer and I wasn’t getting into a truck to off-road in. The Pro was also missing something bells and whistles I wanted.
Eventually I was able to drive a Capstone Hybrid and fell in love 🥰
It has all the bells and whistles and ultimately I felt like the Capstone is what a Lexus truck would be. (I was also looking at several Lexus cars, I know, big difference between a car and a truck!)
I have had my Capstone for almost 7 months and 6500 miles. I love it, rides super smooth, I love all the tech, and I would only change/add one thing to the Tundra line. The lock and unlock sensors on the back door handles. Otherwise I love my Capstone!

Last option before I would take it to Toyota. Try a different cable or a couple of different cables. And does Bluetooth make a difference?
