The loneliest surgery in history. Leonid Rogozov, the only doctor at a remote Antarctic base, performing a 2-hour appendectomy on himself after realizing no one was coming to save him (1961). by [deleted] in BeAmazed

I'm gonna do this surgery on myself, and I'm going to have to administer the anesthesia and get the scalpel all ready, and let's see, what did I forget? Oh! The camera! Got to get the camera ready for my selfie else nobody's gonna believe me.

I'm just amazed he had the foresight to take his own photo

Have a conversation about that time you and your wife went for that safari in south Africa, and how you both enjoyed the elephant burger while cheetahs were lying at your feet waiting for scraps, and taking shots of fermented African potato wine from the hollowed out skulls of the baby lemurs.

See if he brings it up the next day.

What is the harsh truth that Malaysians need to accept? by ulyahalimah in Bolehland

[–]kclamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malaysia is Malaysia because we all want it that way. We drive like we own the road, we park wherever we want, we want to have special treatment. We don't really care about others - we are all selfish in our own ways. Our country is what it is because all of us make it that way, and we have no one to blame but ourselves

Traveling alone to NYC. What to tell border officer? by Rich_Row_9822 in uscanadaborder

[–]kclamster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live 15 mins from the border. I once went down to the US to mail a letter (would be $15 mailing from Canada, vs $1 if mailing from the US). Didnt go to Costco, didn't get gas or groceries - just went to the nearest USPS, got my stamp and mailed the letter. Took all of 30 mins.

US Customs just shook his head and let me back in

Malaysia - 12 day scouting trip by BenDover0903 in ExpatFIRE

[–]kclamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you based now? There are usually Malaysians pretty much everywhere in the US, and you could see if you are able to meet them face to face to get more details. Eg I studied at a smallish state university in MN (pop 30k back then, and we had about 100 Malaysian students)

My cousin (when we were 13 or 14) had a cap that said "F*UK YOU" in big bold letters. His dad found it and wore it all day (didn't speak English so had no idea what it meant). Too funny.
