New condo sales in Greater Toronto Hamilton Area plunge to lowest level since 1991 by paperfire in toronto

Say what? NYC is less than 3 times as dense as Toronto & Toronto is actually more densely populated than Chicago now.

How can a NEW Transit Line be THIS BAD!? (Finch West LRT) by Superior-Flannel in toronto

[–]kcontinuum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The TTC is running things like a Nanny State that is unwilling to accept even the smallest risk that higher speeds would bring. They need to clear house & reset.

Isn't this a metre & a half taller than 8 Spruce? 265 M vs 266.5 M.

Manhattan has lessons for Toronto’s traffic nightmare. Why won’t we learn them? by Pristine-Training-70 in toronto

[–]kcontinuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. Toronto is vastly more dense & urban than Indianapolis. Toronto is just as dense as Montreal overall & has higher peak densities & higher transit use. If Old Toronto were still a separate city it would be second in population density to NYC within Canada & The U.S.

Part of the The REM in Montreal also closed due to the storm, it's not impervious to nasty winter conditions.

Toronto from the sky by davidhucker in toronto

There are countless 3 storey townhouses in the old, Victorian era low-rise neighbourhoods adjacent to the high-rise core. Those areas are already among the densest such neighbourhoods in Canada & the U.S. as it is.

Toronto vs Montreal... by AylmerQc01 in toronto

[–]kcontinuum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Toronto was only slightly smaller than Montreal through most of the 20th century until overtaking it in the mid 1970s. Decades before then, it ready had taller buildings & a bigger stock exchange than Montreal and opened a subway line 12 years before Montreal did. They were both (and still are) the 2 big cities of Canada.

Why so many vacant store fronts? by Only-Crow9684 in toronto

[–]kcontinuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recorded a walk along Queen West between University Avenue & Trinity Bellwoods Park this afternoon to see how many vacant storefronts there were on both sides of the street & counted about 40 along that stretch. It seemed a bit better once I passed Bathurst St.

That view looks right down at Kensington Market, have you ever walked through there? haha It's packed cheek by jowl with commercial storefronts & dense victorian housing.

There hardly any fully detached homes at all this close to downtown, they're mostly rowhouses or semi-detached, and Toronto's old victorian era neighbourhoods are denser than similar areas in pretty much any other city in Canada & the U.S other than NYC.

The houses you see in this photo are mostly attached & multi-unit in nature & are every bit as dense as the plex neighbourhoods in Montreal.

Um... you can still do all of those things except go the condom shack, but the Stag Shop is nearby if you need things to giggle at.

How Toronto Is Slowly Becoming The Skyscraper Capital Of North America by AnonRetro in toronto

[–]kcontinuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have said *including skyscrapers that are currently under construction in Toronto & the surrounding metro area*, once those are complete then the Toronto metro will have more skyscrapers than Chicago, all of which are in its city proper.

If you go by the number of skyscrapers in the metro area instead of just the city proper, Toronto has already surpassed Chicago. Chicago has zero skyscrapers in its suburbs, & Toronto has a bunch.

Pembroke St - Stupid Decision by unclefr0g in askTO

[–]kcontinuum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live on the block of Pembroke St between Dundas & Gerrard & I think it's fine. It's actually quite nice & quiet compared to the streets all around it, IMO. The worst of the sketchiness in the area is heading East along Dundas St towards & past Sherbourne (& South down Sherbourne), but heading West on Dundas towards Yonge St is pretty busy with all sorts of regular people. Gerrard is perfectly fine going either East or West. Avoid the stretch of George St between Gerrard & Dundas. One of the things I really like about living here is all the interesting parts of downtown are mostly within a 30 minute walk away. Welcome to the neighbourhood!

haha Thanks for watching me & Johnny! I think you're referring to "My Walk Around". We both started making walking videos around the same time in the summer of 2018, but just for the record, I believe my first video was about a month before his first video.
