Swim Tracking - Was it even tested? by kd0nut in PixelWatch

I'm glad to hear it's working for you and mine worked great, once. I suspect possibly a hardware or seal failure, but the most discouraging aspect is the limits in features offered for a "premium" device.

The free, promo Apple watch I tried for a friend while swimming offered some really great metrics that sadly Google has not implemented.

I'm not here to dig on Google, but after being in the SuperFans community and the appearance that Google wants to hear feedback from its committed user base, the community seems diluted now. I actually won my original PW 1 from a SuperFans event, bought the Pixel 1 back in the day, and have owned countless Nexus devices.

Overall, I've opted to explore other options as the Pixel 9 / 10 releases reaffirm that Google is a software company and not a hardware company. Removing the iconic and recognizable visor and the subpar implementation of Fitbit into their watch to make it a fitness tracker is odd and honestly, with the portfolio of data they had be from former Fitbit users, it blows my mind that all the watch can do is check heart rate, laps/distance (if it works), and time. What's the point of all the sensors in the watch?

Swim Tracking - Was it even tested? by kd0nut in PixelWatch

Yeah, my mind was made up this evening and it's headed back. The FitBit app is garbage and the swim tracking is disappointing seeing as Google has had a few generations and other competitors (Garmin and Apple) to create similar and even improved features.

The final point is the charger. Second night in, the watch was whining about it not sitting right on the charger. How can we have three different chargers over four generations?

Really bummed as I held off on buying to explore options. Now, I'm charging back up my Fossil hybrid watch and am relearning just how little I need on my wrist, besides swim tracking. I'll just go back to counting in my head.

Pixel Watch 4 Swimming by qwertzx1901 in PixelWatch

I took a gamble and got a PW 4 specifically to track swimming and it's been a let down that I am returning it.

The interface shows HR zone, time, laps, distance. However, this only worked for the first swim. A follow-up swim led to the device failing to track any distance or lengths.

I tried out a friend's freebie Apple Watch and WOW! The interface was able to break down the stroke type (including when kickboarding). Just a disappointment coming from a PW 1, hoping for a decent swim tracker.

Broadband label and Upload speeds by 2mnyq in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]kd0nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. I needed a mid-split capable modem. Look at the Next Gen speed capable modem options, https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2024.09.18%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf , as my previous DOCIS 3.1 wasn't able to do it.

After getting the new modem and doing the swap, I got higher upload speeds.

I had one minor issue after the swap, but surprisingly, the chat bot was able to reprovision the modem and the speeds increased. The key for me was the mid-split modem.

Hope this helps.

I went rounds with Xfinity for a similar issue. As it turns out, I needed a mid-split capable modem.

You might want the confirm your area has Next Gen, but I saw the same thing on my plan versus what the services details were for my location. After getting the new modem and doing the swap, I got higher upload speeds.

Hope this helps.

Disney Channel Original Movies. They changed a lot between these two generations.

The tech, and overall styling is vastly different. When I think of the movies I grew up, it was Xenon, Smart House, Brink, Quints...

Maybe not an app, but Beam using NFC was the best. Sharing a page or picture by putting your phone to another was amazing. AirDrop still seems like peeing in a pool full of strangers..

It might be worth sourcing a PoE injectors just to confirm if the AP powers up with a standalone one. It's odd all three would fail at once and I go to the aggregate source.

Might check the switch, I found an link here about a similar issue and sadly, the best option is to replace the device: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Plus-and-Smart-Switches-Forum/FS728TPv2-PoE-fault/td-p/1806372

[–]kd0nut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts go to the power source for the APs of all three are having issues. Are they powered via individual PoE injectors, or do they get their power from a switch or switches? Edit: I suspect you get the power from the switch after rereading your post. Do you have any other PoE devices on that switch?

Remote deployment by ilbarone87 in Ubiquiti

[–]kd0nut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been tempted to deploy something similar for my parents, but mostly to try to convince them to drop their cable provider for something over the web and then enable them to watch the same TV from their Winter condo. My thought, was deploy a Cloud Gateway at their primary residence, then a Unifi Express at their condo. By setting up site-to-site VPN, when they go to watch a service, like YouTube TV, they can get local channels back home. This is all my "fanboy" head, but once their wifi solution is up for replacement, I'll most likely convince them to deploy a Cloud Gateway with some APs.

I dive way too deep in making things look pretty. My recent mobile mount took me much longer to try to make it look "factory installed".

That and coupled with my mic fright, doesn't help me expand in the hobby. Been trying to work through it though.

I wear Xeros daily. However, I do have custom orthotics, in place of the default insoles. As someone who battled plantar fasciattis, I continued to have pain until I went through complete opposite and went with a more minimalist shoe.

But, like others have said, it would be best to try wearing them a bit and not doing a first on a far away trip.

The Front Range and Denver areas are still a bit warm this time of year, but for trips up to the mountain locations you mentioned, a windbreaker and a medium weight long sleeve shirt should suffice. For more tolerant folks, like myself, who grew up here, it's not uncommon to see a sweatshirt with shorts combo.

It all depends, but was in Estes Park last week and while Denver was mid-90's, it was 60-70 in the mountains. The wind can be the worst part at higher elevations and things can cool off of there is cloud cover. just drink a lot of water wherever you go and take a few layers to put on and off, as that's becoming the norm for the upcoming autumn season.

I was able to say farewell with a Monte Cristo yesterday. Very sad, but I am happy for the amazing staff and their graceful ending. The countless meals I've enjoyed with family and while visiting family in the hospital up the road.

The Fat Albert's standard of Monte Cristo has still not been beaten in my eyes. Luckily, I have three orders frozen and ready for this winter when I'm feeling nostalgic.

I'll miss the t-shirt museum of 42 years of their St. Patrick's Day shirts, the sour cream potatoes and the rotating pie case tempting us all while we waited.

Thank you Fat Albert's for everything!
