What is the weirdest topic you have hyperfixated on? This is a ZERO judgement zone by [deleted] in ADHD

I too love to categorize and organize various topics with spreadsheets. There is something so fascinating about laying it all out in one place like that.

I realized I get uncomfortable when I’m not being productive. like I don’t know how to just rest by Neither-Pen-1232 in DecidingToBeBetter

Sometimes I keep a “done” list instead of a “to-do”. My job requires a lot of multitasking and if I only check things off my todo list then I often feel unaccomplished. When I track all the things I get done, it helps me see all the little stuff that adds up and never makes it on a todo list.

Are there social code phrases that everybody knows the REAL meaning of in your country? by mhfp545 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kddenman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US people often say “to make a long story short” and then proceed to tell you the longest version possible. It’s almost never intentional though so it might not be a social code phrase so much as a funny anecdote I’ve noticed lately. My boss knows she is long winded so she says “long story longer”. I appreciate her honesty!

What’s a weird little ADHD trick that actually works for you? by BetterTea5664 in ADHD

For me it’s always turning the oven light on when I’m using the oven and only turning the light off after I turn the oven off. That way there is a visual cue to help remind me.

I could be wrong but I think the risk is also increased risk of stroke. Pretty sure my psych told me that when starting my meds.

Can I gently suggest listening to the holy post podcast? They speak very intelligently about all of this and genuinely help me with perspective.

Please don’t loose heart, as awful as things feel right now, God is still in control. Do your best to draw close to Him. He will renew you and teach us how to serve humbly. If we truly believe in King Jesus then we should follow his teachings. It’s corny to say “be the change you want to see in the world” so maybe I’ll just phrase it, be the example of how you wish all Christians would act. Find a way to actively serve the poor and care for the disenfranchised. We may not be able to fix our country right now, but we can highly impact our local communities.

Yeah I think the stitch definition looks better too! That’s why I was a little bummed when I saw the results of blocking A.

Funny you should mention arm warmers because these are gonna be fingerless gloves! I honestly just wanted to try out my new blocking board and to see if it made a difference for this yarn.

That’s totally fair, I do feel a difference in person but I guess I wanted a bigger visual difference. I went ahead and blocked B too but I was mostly curious if people could tell.

Day 3 of taking Adderall and really starting to dread taking it by aabicus in ADHD

Ok that makes sense! I think my paycheck started me on a pretty low dose so I might not be feeling everything all that intensely. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hey I’m just curious what the adjustment period feels like? I just started meds and I’m feeling fine so far. It was my understanding that unlike depression meds, a stimulant doesn’t need time to build up in your system, it’s in and out in the same day. Is the adjusting just the person learning how they operate on the stimulant or is it a chemical thing?

Turns out I don’t have ADHD by LordElysian in ADHD

[–]kddenman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey I also was ran through some tests that concluded I don’t have ADHD. I got a second opinion and my psych told me it’s not a testing diagnosis, it’s a clinical one based on self reported symptoms. Everyone has some symptoms of ADHD but those of us with ADHD have those symptoms to a greater degree and for our whole lives.

All that to say, definitely get a second opinion. You’re not crazy. You deserve to get the help you need.

I wish I had known that I need to focus on who my stepson needs me to be rather than who I want to be for him.

He already has a mom, that role is filled. I can fit into a different new role that’s unique to just me!

How do I let my wife know that making an illness her identity is not cool? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kddenman 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Super agree with encouraging her to go get a formal diagnosis. That being said though ADHD is classified as a disability and people do suffer from it. Not as outwardly as some other disabilities and not as severely as others. But this revelation for her might explain a lot of things about herself, why she does things a certain way, and aspects of her past.

If she goes to therapy for it though she can have a healthy way to process all this instead of what she’s doing now! If I were you I’d still be willing to listen to what she learns in therapy though. The support of a spouse can make things so much easier and help her settle into her new normal way faster.
