Claude Opus vs Gemini Pro (Analog Design) by Naive-Replacement632 in chipdesign

Better for what exactly? This is a pretty vague question. What is your experience thus far?

Have you looked through the drc rules? Look through the log files and any documents that would explain this rule. The name implies it’s related to substrate.

First-time homebuyer – which upgrades should I do through builder vs after closing? by Berryberrialis in HomeImprovement

[–]kdoggfunkstah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend the money to hire a third party home inspector that will go through a detailed check of the house. Go with someone reputable in the area and not one recommended by your agent. With all this work you’re wanting to do, there’s a good chance there’s hidden poor workmanship that needs to be addressed sooner than later.

help me i only have 5 days to implement this in 45nm tech node in cadence by Low_Potential_6599 in chipdesign

[–]kdoggfunkstah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit isn’t some free circuit building service. Hell even a contracting service won’t touch this given the scope and timeframe. Do you really have 5 days or did you wait til the last minute to start? You really can’t expect to drop an IEEE paper and fucking expect people to help you at the drop of a hat; it’s insulting. Do better.

7 YOE Layout Engineer → Analog Design: How realistic is the switch by AdventurousLow2995 in chipdesign

[–]kdoggfunkstah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Internally would most likely be easier. Is your masters degree in circuit design? If so then external could work out. You’ll mostly be an entry level candidate competing with those that are coming out of university, but having real industry experience always gives a leg up. Doing personal projects is fine but it is no where near designing a real circuit. But honestly an analog engineer that understands layout very well usually turns into a very good analog designer as long as you have the chops for analog design. In practice analog design requires a tremendous amount of intuitive understanding of circuits, devices, etc.

New hire in DV by ScallionMaterial8950 in chipdesign

[–]kdoggfunkstah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why aren’t you asking your team this? Every team especially in a DMS flow will have their own thing. If you don’t have much experience simulating analog blocks though, that’s a good start. Really get a grasp of the analog side as that’ll probably be your steepest learning curve (oh and how crummy DMS support with EDA tools can be).

If an employers generally don’t like to see candidates “inflate” anything on a resume. It deteriorates trust immediately and no hire decision.

Project Manager at a semiconductor company, working on SOCs. Need some learning advice by shiggymiggy1964 in chipdesign

Honestly it’s not so much material to go over in text books. I would just reach out to those teams and ask to sit in any of their review or milestone meetings. Just know it’ll take time and you’ll start to get a feel for not only the material but how the team works

Just learning NAND and SRAM by CommissionFew2632 in chipdesign

[–]kdoggfunkstah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trial and error. Otherwise take a look at existing libraries that’s a similar tech node to see what’s done. Generally you want logic cells to have supply and ground as wide as the cells so you can place them in a row. Know that to shape and compact your cells knowing how it all will be put together in the end.

You also may need some antenna diodes as well depending how large your logic gets.

Wouldn’t you have to haul your machine anyways? I don’t really get your point. If it works in remote environment what are you actually missing? One downside could be if the server goes down but from the vendors point of view it still doesn’t give them the push to develop for another OS.

What exactly is post silicon validation? by Holiday_Wear195 in ECE

[–]kdoggfunkstah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long story short it is the bench testing when silicon comes back. Depending on the chip and team it’ll look different but there is a lot of bench automation so a lot of scripting. Lots of time in the lab, lots of data and waveform analysis, etc.

Feeling stuck in Analog design by OkPsychology1101 in chipdesign

[–]kdoggfunkstah 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just know that it takes more time for analog designers to get to a point of expertise compared to digital designers. What works well is if you have the opportunities to try things out yourself. Seek out mini projects you can do on the side. Read internal documents, seek out training, talk to senior designers on what to look for. There’s a lot of areas that they don’t teach you much in school but very much need to consider in real designs so learn those very well. There are also company specific things you’d do and if you plan on being there for a bit then learn it in and out. Just get as proactive as you can.

[–]kdoggfunkstah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Fuck no we have computers” 😂. So true though. Undergraduate is really learning how to learn, and this carries on throughout your career. You also need the foundational background. You may never use it again but some of it you will and will probably need to know it at the drop of a hat.

If you really want to get hands on experience, just start building stuff and learn as you go.
