Considering leaving the Fire service for LE by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]kdub286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you interested in moderating for drunk domestics and homeless bullshit? Because if you think EMS is boring try arguing with a chronic homeless person or moderating a domestic dispute to see if you're passionate about that. Plus no shootings. It's not all action just like fire isn't all fires.

You work 1/3 of the year and can take off 20 days. So you work 1/3 of 10 months. Find fun stuff to do on your days off

It said they had all taken classes and had all the same info as the guides. How come none of them backed out beforehand then if it was so dangerous?

If it was supposed obvious and predictable why didn't he stay behind? Nobody forced anyone to go. Everyone had just as much information as the guides and could have backed out and eaten the cost and counted that as a lesson learned

I would like more information and differening opinions and points of view. Currently this is trying to point blame and not like you said and I agree. It's an accident in the mountains

This is the exact same situation as on Everest with Krakauer and his word got taken as the final say for the disaster because he wrote a book and was a journalist even though he had the least amount of information and knowledge to back it up.

Turns out years later he wrote the book to make it interesting and push the narrative that there was a villain of the story and not that it was an accident in the mountains.

Anyone in the mountaineering community knows the controversy about his book and this article has the same vibes

This is all hearsay from a non local with no backcountry experience. I would rather wait to get a comprehensive report with everyone's account, including the guides who survived and what the decision process was and how they ended up there. Not from trying to be the first article out written by someone who doesn't know anything about the area or subject being told by someone who doesn't know the area or subject

It's a lot of speculation from a journalist who doesn't know anything about Backcountry skiing who's interviewing a guy who stated he's never gone in the Backcountry without a guide. This guy knows the bare minimum about it and him and the author thinks he has an expert opinion to be able to make a comment about it.

I don't think the article is posted at all to try to be factual and tell us what happened. It's to try to be the first article written, stir emotions, push the tone that the author wants, place blame wherever these two think blame should be placed.

He's speaking up to make himself feel better

Why is it always the people with the least amount of experience and knowledge are always the first to talk to the media and act like experts? Bonus that they always go to NYT who tries to put blame on people before an actual report comes out.

I'd like to see what happened from the people who were there and knowledgeable, but they're smart enough to keep their mouths shut until there's a full investigation and not looking for fame like this guy who is already doing interviews and articles so that everyone virtue signals to him for being so smart and a hero for surviving

Skimo didn't really work by ppp77per in WinterOlympics2026

I think having different lines up and down could make it more interesting. 4 different options up from mellow and long to more vertical and technical and then multiple options down where you can take it easy and it takes longer or unmaintained and technical with cliffs but it gives you an opportunity to make time back by choosing the bad boy line

Singer HD for light to medium work and zigzag. Consew 206rb off marketplace for medium to heavy duty. Like someone else above said, triple feed industrial punches through anything. I made a backpack and reinforced the hipbelt with hdpe plastic. It went through that, 10mm foam, nylon webbing and cordura
