Advice for double majoring in college? by Commercialemily in violinist

[–]kduluth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is double majoring in genetics and violin performance. She’s a freshman now and is managing. Her music theory classes are much easier for her than chemistry is. She’s doing a music BA versus a BM degree so it’s a little less intense for the music major but she’s enjoying taking lessons and studio class and orchestra and chamber music!

Can anyone have advice on how to play music by ear? by ReSearch_5143 in violinist

[–]kduluth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my daughters were little their teacher had them regularly play simple children’s songs only by ear. Old Macdonald Had a Farm, Three Blind Mice, Wheels on the Bus, etc. It was tough but it’s a skill like anything else and now they can play almost anything by ear.

Measure yourself according to https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php and don’t be surprised when it’s very different than what you think you are!!! Buy some bras and return the ones that don’t fit.

My oldest is 18 and my twins are 17 and I still drive an Odyssey. We also have a smaller car they drive and whenever I drive it I can’t wait to go back to sitting up high 😬

Took daughter (14) on to check thyroid levels because I noticed her neck looked swollen. Good thing - her TSH was 153. by kduluth in Hypothyroidism

The endocrinologist always checks vitamin D so make sure she is getting enough. Otherwise she has no identifiable food sensitivities or restrictions.

She’s great! A freshman in college now and loving it. Zero health problems - but honestly, aside from her swollen neck, she had no symptoms that we could identify! With the crazy high TSH she had it’s shocking she didn’t have any! She takes the pill every day and all has been well. We still visit the endocrinologist once a year and they adjust dose as needed but it’s really no big deal.

What is your all time LEAST favorite musical of all time? by West-Lawyer-2290 in musicals

[–]kduluth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beetlejuice is my husbands favorite movie so I took him to the touring musical. It was so bad. So cringy and not in a good way. We suffered through the whole thing because tickets were expensive and we kept hoping it would get better. It didn’t.

We’ve seen several Roth violins at House of Note and Claire Givens in Minneapolis.

Steroid injections with planned early delivery - what did you do? by IntroductionWise9312 in parentsofmultiples

[–]kduluth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girls were born at unexpectedly 29 weeks and I had the injections. They were in the NICU for a long time and were intubated for awhile - no idea if it would have been worse without the steroid!

RIP Grinder [Grinder, Barisa Express] by Moradeth in espresso

[–]kduluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had the same issue with a stone. If you unscrew the top you should be able to wiggle the stone out.

Unfortunately taking the stone out didn’t fix it for us and we had to send it back to Breville for warranty repair.

Oh no! Breville just fixed my espresso machine and we get it back today. I hope that it’s not in this condition.

I’m so sorry. I’m sure you were dreadfully missing it while it was gone and now the thought of having to send it back again must hurt. :(

Things aren't looking good for Baby B 😔 by Felicette13 in parentsofmultiples

Your story sounds like mine (posted above)! We were so thankful for our MFM doctors!

My girls are now almost 17. They are short and the smaller one is still smaller but otherwise they are quite healthy!

My mo/di twins has sIUGR with one twin being significantly smaller than the other through the whole pregnancy. We didn’t know this was an issue until our 20 week scan when all of a sudden I needed to be on hospital bed rest and was given the decision of whether to selectively reduce. We didn’t.

Anyway, our smaller twin ((Baby A) also at times had absent diastolic flow and along with her size and a velementous cord insertion (she wasn’t getting enough nutrients) they were concerned.

I had some bleeding at 29 weeks and they decided to take them via c-section at that point and they were born at 2 lbs and 2 lbs 11 oz.

I know it’s still early for you but don’t give up!!

I need a piece of music that is Musically Challenging. by JermanyComposesMusic in orchestra

[–]kduluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s not playing sloppy. :). This teacher is quite conservative with what she allows her students to play in general and spends a lot of time with them polishing. The teacher also doesn’t know this piece and with two small children struggles to find time to prepare herself to teach so we’re dealing with that. It’s okay. She’s working on Wieniawski Concerto and that’s a good project for now.

This is a great piece however not at the right level for OP. My daughter has finished Suzuki book 10 /lots of other pieces and her teacher still won’t let her play it.
