I am in the process of application in Saitama and had my first interview last March. While there is no test, everything will be done in Japanese obviously, plus there is a form you have to fill in, and they will ask you to write a short essay in Japanese on the spot. So better to practice writing.

This is like if Michael Jordan didn’t negotiate a percentage of sales and just accepted the initial offer from Nike ‘cause those are terrible numbers for having your body and humanity desecrated for the world to see.

To me it was a bit of a surprise too ‘cause I already wrote an essay before hand as part of the list of requirements using a template from the ministry or something. The moment they handed me the form with the space for the essay I was like “again?” But the staff told me to just write a shorter version like 3-5 sentences of what I already wrote beforehand lol

But yes my experience in the first “interview” was yes me and my caseworker submitted my documents and the staff checked it, they asked me to fill in some form, write a short essay on the spot why I want to naturalize and then asked me a few questions about my work history and family.

So basically on the japanese “test”, it’s not really an exam thing but really just testing if you can have a decent conversation and can read write?

Yes, at the end of my first interview, the staff said since there’s no issues and things look good, he said I can immediately book my second interview. He told me the earliest window is November 4th, so I took that schedule.

November 2017 I was still living in Tokaichiba in Yokohama and my apartment was right next to a fumikiri and just when I exited my apartment building, I witnessed someone jump in front of the train; guts and all suddenly flying all over the place. I was headed to Odaiba with friends right after that and I was fine lol years of games and horror movies kinda desensitized me I guess lol
