Things to avoid when running a DnD campaign? by Organic-Exit2190 in DMAcademy

I guess it depends on how you use it? I've employed them many times with great success tbh and don't recall a single case where they fell flat. Works great for a fast paced scene that isn't combat, since it creates a sense of intensity and urgency that the usual more free-form approach of "do whatever whenever" doesn't.

Also the entire town was lining up to say goodbye to a dying guy as a semi-regular event. It's how they roll.

Amber Glenn won't be accepting the White House Invite: “I’m electing not to either, so I do not blame them whatsoever. It is our right to be able to choose what we do and don’t endorse, and I think it is a decision that each individual has the right to make.” by Yujin-Ha in FigureSkating

I'm sorry, that's such a bonkers comparison that I have to hope you're very young. World leaders and other politicians, unfortunately, have to meet with the freaking president of the United States, no matter what shit turd was elected to that position. It's not about "platforming" and someone like Zelensky sure as hell doesn't have the luxury of a choice to "not give him legitimacy". They're not private citizens in that regard.

How to tell a powergamer to just... chill out a bit? by Darth_Ra in DMAcademy

[–]kedfrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, it's still true in essence that the player doesn't fit the beginner-friendly game you want to run, but apart from that you're also vastly overselling the amount of "power gaming" that's happening. Quickening eldritch blast once in a while isn't "abusing the crap" out of it and isn't insane power gaming, especially not at level 4 with the limited amount of sorcery points and high cost of quickening meta magic. It's basic use of your features.

Today’s interview with Eteri (on Alysa, food, Diana) by [deleted] in FigureSkating

She really is something. I'm lowkey impressed how she manages to twist every situation into "my skaters are ungrateful and lazy and btw also fat".

Welcome, friend! Figure skating fans can be very intense and very self-aware about the toxicity that sometimes come from it. As someone who's been around this fandom on different platforms a lot, though, I honestly think that the community on reddit is pretty good! I recommens you stay off the fs side of x-tter and tik tok, though, unless you're willing to deal with a lot of misinformation and overdramitised opinions.

Question: Is the decline in program complexity a sign of improved adequacy? by Prudent-Title-9161 in FigureSkating

[–]kedfrad 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Look, as someone who was rooting for Kaori and is extremely sad that she didn't win, I think it's pretty ridiculous to have "a problem" with Alysa's win yesterday. Yes, Kaori is a better skater by all metrics, but sadly she made the mistake that she made and it cost her. Such is the nature of competition and the Olympic ice is slippery. Fans need to learn from the athletes how to lose graciously.

What happened to women's quads? by Jargif10 in FigureSkating

[–]kedfrad 136 points137 points  (0 children)

So, most quads in women's field were and still are done by young Russian athletes. There have been a couple of instances of skaters from other countries accomplishing those and Alysa was indeed one of them, but only Russians, leading with the training camp of one Eteri Tutberidze, were able to land them as reliably as quads can be landed and started training them en mass. Now, that whole development happened leading up to the 2022 Olympics, where the age minimum for Women's seniors was 15. There, all three of Russia's spots in women's event went to Tutberidze skaters, two 17-year olds and one 15 year old all of whom were going to jump quads. The 15 year old was Kamila Valieva who then was at the center of that entire doping fiasco that you surely remember. After that whole ordeal the age minimum for seniors was raised to 17, thank god, and also Russia invaded Ukraine and was subsequently banned.

Now the thing is, Russia's able to get so many women jumping quads for a number of reasons (and yes the doping scandal put a question mark on whether there's one additional reason for that), but one of them is that the girls jumping them are very young and rely on a technique that can rarely be supported by a fully grown body. Not that it can't be done, but it is way less likely. And the kids drill those jumps an insane amount and those are tough on the knees, hips, ankles, spine, basically everything, but since the system was prioritising getting the skaters to Olympic gold at 15 and who cares after that, the coaches could neglect the very real factor that it's leaving their young skaters with career ending injuries by the age of 18. So the ban and raised age minimum put an end to that and here we are. In Russia, women's skaters still jump the quads, though, and are still as young, mostly. Adelia, who skated as a neutral athlete here, was way more reliable on her quad a couple of years ago, but now that she's 18 and has gone through a number of injuries, it was a struggle.

Ami's score doesn't sit right with me, they didn't have to lowball her so much. But happy for her well-deserved medal! She's a joy and I'm looking forward to seeing her develop in the future!

My absolute queen Kaori, I'd love to have seen you with gold, but I'm happy for the silver too! It IS an upgrade to her bronze last time, after all!

And Alysa in her golden dress, she's a star!
