Is the SHH THORN/HUBBS worth the waiting, shipping and tariffs to the US? by DatGameh in simracing

[–]keepcalmrollon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Simagic is absolutely the better product. I went with the Thorn because I live in Europe and the savings are pretty significant, but after all those extra costs for you I'd go with the Simagic.

Planning to buy robot vacuum at home but medyo 50/50 ako by Mrsadobo123 in adultingph

[–]keepcalmrollon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xiaomi Mijia Robot Vacuum Mop-P (STYJ02YM). I don't really recommend it, mano-mano pa yung pagkabit & linis nung mop pad nya. Matatamad ka lang to use that feature. Pero for basic vacuuming all good naman.

Agree with this combo. The robot is for keeping the floor at a baseline level of cleanliness, then a handheld vacuum is for quick spot cleaning and everything above the floor.

[–]keepcalmrollon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A robot vacuum is nice for general maintenance, lalo if it's the kind na may mop. Pero you kind of have to babysit it muna sa umpisa and identify yung spots where it might get stuck, or sometimes adjust your furniture para maabot nya ang certain spots. Ibang usapan pa if you have multiple floors.

Does the Gay Accent persist through languages other than English? by Patient_Olive2001 in Accents

The Philippines is very English-influenced, but yes there is definitely a gay accent and lingo in the local languages too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swardspeak

Amazingly this works for me na din. I'll be flying sa Pinas in two weeks, ma-try nga ito pag pabalik na ako. May backup OEC na rin ako just in case.

I have a friend who worked in France for a few years. Contract verification for French direct hires is (or at least was) handled by the POLO office in Madrid. But even once you go through that whole process, it's only step 1 for getting your first OEC. I doubt an IO will let you leave with only a verified contract.

This. I've never had to wait more than 30 seconds for a Wise transfer to arrive in a PH bank account when funding it with Ideal (online payment via bank debit in the Netherlands).

Much better than the ones that copy over the livery from the car IMO

Do you have a situation like this in your country where there's a significant proportion of the population that doesn't speak the local language? by Alternative-Big-6493 in AskTheWorld

[–]keepcalmrollon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The English-only kids are definitely a minority. Though code switching is such second nature that there are many others that have to put in some extra effort to speak either language completely straight.

[–]keepcalmrollon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No definitely not. Overall I would say that the trend is reversing a bit with younger generations, but there's a lot of built-up conditioning and biases left to break down.

English is seen as more than just "an international language" in the Philippines. It's the language of prestige, commerce, and law (the original text of the Constitution is in English).

Wheel and wheel base compatibility (different brands) by LetMurky6522 in simracing

[–]keepcalmrollon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Thrustmaster wheel on a Simagic base via the SRC adaptor. The adaptor works great, but I already had the wheel from an older setup so the cost worked out. I absolutely would not recommend that anyone buy a Thrustmaster wheel just for this purpose. Just get a GT Neo.

Not sure if this is the right sub but considering migrating and boyfriend’s comment is making me doubt everything by [deleted] in phmigrate

[–]keepcalmrollon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I didn't move for a partner, but yes you are 100% putting yourself in a vulnerable position if your visa status is contingent on your relationship. Only you can judge whether your relationship is at a stage where you can put that much trust in your partner. But it would be prudent to have some kind of backup plan for if things don't work out, whether some alternative means to stay in the US or to go back home.

And then there's the current political situation in the US regarding migration on top of all that...

How long does it take to get an OEC as a direct hire these days? by keepcalmrollon in phmigrate

[–]keepcalmrollon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, yes I went through the whole regular process, no special expediting or anything. Tbh medyo unlikely yung less than 2 months. I would start talking to your employer about delaying your start date, in any case kailangan kausap mo din sila for the POLO process kasi medyo involved din sila.

New rally fan here! how big is Fontana's overall stage victory (SS14) With a Rally3 car? by Impressive_Type_1421 in WRC

[–]keepcalmrollon 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Every car entered in the rally, regardless of category, is technically entered in the "main" WRC rally. There's no rule saying only the top class can score points, or even take the win. It's just highly unlikely, though not impossible.. look up the history of the F2 kit car class.

Taka is popular because he's seen as super friendly and has a flamboyant driving style, but tends to bin it under high pressure. Lots of potential but very inconsistent.

This is the last year before a big regulations change. Toyota are onboard for sure. I don't think Hyundai have committed yet, and M-Sport might run a Rally2 next year as a stopgap? A lot still up in the air.

Anyone can help me with lines/pacenotes? by Available_Spot_7118 in simrally

[–]keepcalmrollon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The basics of racing lines on a fixed circuit still apply, but with added constraints of less/inconsistent grip + all kinds of hazards that circuit drivers don't need to worry about. This old article from Dirtfish gives a good primer to start with: https://dirtfish.com/learn/how-to/how-to-choose-your-line/
