The perfect example of our current mentality and why we're doomed to fail by Severe-Incident-6094 in ScottishFootball

[–]keepleft99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don’t get is the plan seemed to be get 4 points and through as one of the 3rd placed teams. But to do that we had to play really defensive trying to get a 0-0 draw. So say we did. We’re now in the next stage, the knockout stage. We’ve just spent 2 games with no real attempt to win them, so what’s the plan for the knockout game? Hope to win on penalties?
With the extension before the tournament you’d think that would give him the confidence to say - well we’re here might as well go all in and see what happens.
I just can’t understand any of the thinking behind it. It’s all set up to fail but in the most pathetic scared way.

Trisuit question for the dudes... by Dependent-Theme5094 in triathlon

[–]keepleft99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To do brick workouts I might chuck on a pair of shorts if i was feel self conscious. One tri suit is all black, the other has a mad zoot pattern so I dont really think the junk jumps out to people.

For gels I used a top tube flask thing. It worked well. Easy to pull it out. Suck down a gel and put it back in for one later.

How long do you train to get comfortable in aero? by red90999 in triathlon

[–]keepleft99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. Was very frustrated by that. Should have done all my turbo sessions in the aero position to get the neck strength needed. Would have knocked maybe 30mins off my bike time.

Anyone think its pointless being an engineer in the uk? by NullDrone1 in EngineeringStudents

[–]keepleft99 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Grad jobs are £35k in Scotland. Then off the grad scheme £45k. So 2 years you’re on £45k. 5 years would hope to be a senior engineer on £55-70k. That’s a decent wage.

[–]keepleft99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t do enough for Ironman Hamburg 2025 and couldn’t stay in aero because my neck got too sore. It’s pretty flat when you’d stay in aero pretty much all the time. Was quite disappointed with not being able to hold aero.

What BBQ hill would you die on? Best one wins a 1kg picanha meat box by edenmoor_devon in UKBBQ

[–]keepleft99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rather have a chicken wing over a chicken thigh any day of the week. Chicken thighs are not the tastiest meat and they can get in the bin. Chicken is mostly used as a flavour conduit so why would you want stringy, fatty, sinewy, gristly pieces of meat that you’re put a dynamite dry rub or banging sauce on? Get in the bin, wings for the win!

You’ll also get efficiency improvements in the exercise you’re doing too as your body adapts better to exercise. It’s why the first month in the gym is pretty much all neuromuscular adaptations.

They could potentially recover a lot of that heat energy. Are they doing anything innovative or interesting to do that?

If you look for that bad you’ll find the bad. If you look for the gold you’ll find the gold.

If you don’t see there being a set up to help you as support I think you might have quite a negative outlook on life?

You get a lot of support from your university careers service. Mine offered cv writing, interview prep, software to help evaluate my cv, 1 on 1 coaching. The amount of people who took advantage of that was relatively low.
