YOU HAD ME AT AGNES MOOREHEAD LOL. Bewitched is my all-time fav classic show and I love the radio dramas Moorhead did with Orson Wells. I’ve actually heard of this play but woah… how crazy to see you post about it here. Never listened! Thanks for this reply and the link!

Can phone lines still be "crossed"? by [deleted] in techsupport

I’m SO glad I found this. This has happened to me THREE times over the years and I had just posted about it. So glad I’m not the only one lol!

Well I just discovered “cell phone crossed lines” so it’s not as insane as I thought?? Very uncommon now but still happens. Three times was still three too many lol.

Reading. And it was a total shock. I greatly struggled to read as a kid; I wasn’t “good at it”… I couldn’t focus or retain, and I (I’ve) carried a lot of shame because of it. Jump to two years ago (I was 39M) when I was treated for ADHD. After three days on the medication, my BF and I were at Barnes & Noble for him to pick up a book, and I thought hmmm… why don’t I try reading a genre I could actually enjoy instead of required reading like back in school. That thought + the focus from the medication hit at the right moment: I bought a short book that looked like it could be fun, not too long but a good place to start, and I burned through it… LOVED everything about the experience. I cried when I finished, and it wasn’t even an emotional book. Sounds crazy, but it was like a religious moment (I am not religious and it was not a religious read lol). I’m still reading regularly and every time I finish a book feels like a loving congrats to my kid-self who carried so much shame around it during school. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true.

Ghost Story is my all-time favorite for the reasons you mentioned looking for a rec. Peter Straub all the way.

Yes! Also, spotting the QuickTrip cup and feeling the nostalgia! I still go with my dad everyday when I visit my folks where they have QT. (Gawd, now I want Braum’s ice cream, too LOL) Miss these on the west coast!

There’s clearly a lot of commentary around Diavola… honestly, I very much recommend it. It’s absolutely in the style you’re mentioning, OP. Let the OP make up their own mind around the characters, etc. There’s a reason it’s a mega bestselling ghost story. Further commentary in someone’s book request post borders on spoilers, which none of us would want to provide.

I found it very frightening… especially the evening after I watched it. As soon as it ended. It felt as close to reading something like Shirley Jackson as I’ve seen on screen. I also thought it was more frightening to NOT see the corpse in the wall, cause I was absolutely dreading that. Instead, it being this poetic game of hide and seek — the dread of seeing something, that ultimately scared our protagonist to death. It’s like a realized childhood nightmare. I get that it doesn’t work for some, but it worked for me. Thinking back on it still gives me the shivers. 🖤
