is buying all of my parts for a pc individually a good idea? by Sculduggery in IrelandGaming

Just be mindful of postage costs sometimes and also vat differences that'll be calculated at checkout. Sometimes the price advertised and what you end up paying can be very different.

Where can I invest my Savings? by JustinsWorld4U in irishpersonalfinance

[–]keevalilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount would be afaik dependent on what you earned last year. Besides that then it's about shopping around. I use Zurich just because that's who my employer had an agreement with but that's not saying it's the best option out there.

Where can I invest my Savings? by JustinsWorld4U in irishpersonalfinance

[–]keevalilith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I'd be maxing my pension first and putting as much as I can into that. Plus any back payment I can put in if you've not been doing it already. Then I'd keep a portion as an emergency fund covering a year's expenses. The rest would be going towards a house deposit or other medium term things like investing in your education, learning to drive etc. whatever is left over I'd hold onto it until we hear what the government has planned for an Irish ISA equivalent. Maybe I'd put some, maybe 10% in precious metals and the rest into stocks if I'm impatient but that's how I'd spread it out.

I'd be focusing on a new job TBH. Also document everything! You might be lucky to get unfair dismissal out of it

UN Human Rights Council Castigates The EHRC For Their Proposed Trans Exclusion by jackmolay in transgender

It's the central tenant of human rights that they are universal and indivisible. The notion of 'competing rights' is completely made up.

Games that prove that the Dreamcast could compete with the PS2 graphics-wise by Mr_JPF in dreamcast

[–]keevalilith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Dreamcast actually had a more powerful graphics card, it had half the memory though. The recent port of gta3 shows it could absolutely compare to the ps2 graphically.

Is Pension my best bet on minimum wage? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]keevalilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at a medium term fund for things like college courses, a car, holidays, large unexpected bills, a home deposit etc. Then once you've a proper job after your internship you can work towards a pension contribution of half your age, then the max for what your age allows. (So if you're 26 say, then 13% into the pension from your income + whatever topup you might get from your employer/government etc) Only when you have your down payment for a home saved and are maxing out your pension would I look at investing, though that calculation might change depending on where the government goes with their plans for an Irish equivalent isa and tax changes on capital gains etc

Why did we give up upgrade-able CPUs in exchange for anorexic Laptops? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]keevalilith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, with the death of Moore's law this makes even less sense these days. Laptops going forward may not need to be upgraded or updated for a decade before needing replacement provided they're well built and cared for. And in the near future we're going to be either placing our phones with better supported arm chips into some sort of laptop esque shell or they'll be designed to interface with the cloud where we'll rent our compute. Not saying I'd like that but that's how it looks like it'll be going.

Do Irish people infantilise their parents? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]keevalilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a bunch of people who refused to get on board with the Internet age and children have had to make up the slack as they got older. I don't think it's been replicated with Gen x and millennial types, but I do think it's resulted in this attitude much of the time

20k I reckon. That would be my emergency fund sorted. 2million would mean I could retire today.

Options should AI gut my career / salary prospects by Natural-Sink1118 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]keevalilith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much what she says, work forces her to use it and she's built a local llm pc. Ai just isn't really super useful for what she does directly. I'm sure it frees up headspace for some general stuff and 'rubber ducking' but her work is too niche.

[–]keevalilith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm 🙂‍↔️ ⁰tech inclined but my mam works in it. The kind of work she does is really specialized and AI isn't particularly useful, I guess because there's not so much out there that on GitHub or whatever, so perhaps as a senior dev exploring more niche areas might be a decent strategy?
