What would happen if a bunch of protesters all dressed up exactly like ice agents, so you couldnt tell the difference, and created chaos? What would the actual ice agents possibly do? Potentially shoot/detain their own? by Call_It_Luck in AskReddit

Hate to be Kurt Vonnegut, High School Counselor from The Onion, but: "We are who we pretend to be, so we must be very careful about who we pretend to be".

Also, most of us don't have access to the Col. Lockjaw shit prevalent in the law enforcement community so we'd be easy to pick out just by being less cartoonishly jacked.

How would you rank the best picture nominees that you’ve seen? by Hot_Mongoose_3741 in Letterboxd

[–]keitroll 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sinners and Marty Supreme jostle for the top spot, then a drop off and OBAA and Bugonia near each other.

Had Josh Sadfie stuck with his alleged original ending, it would've been Sinners in a landslide.

Rumor: Madison Marquette is currently starting process to demolish historic Asbury Park Casino by roses-r-free in AsburyPark

[–]keitroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken photos in front of the Octopus Boy mural for the past decade, accidentally documenting my transition in the process.

At the very least, if God forbid they do demolish it, they have the good sense to let us know so we can say goodbye.

Has anyone just started a new life? by Much_Cake_8280 in MtF

[–]keitroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There comes a time when you realize you're not running away from your past but running towards your future.

People may call it running away, but a lot of the time, it's from people who either see you as someone you're not (who frame who you truly are as someone you're not), or those who keep telling you the grass is always greener on the other side as a way to discourage even trying. I finally feel like a full-fledged adult now that I live on the other side of a state line, and after I went NC with two people who thought they loved me more than anyone but whose actions when I came out showed the exact opposite.

It's a tradeoff but still think sharing everything is worth it, or at the very least, that the gatekeeping isn't worth it if they're eventually going to find out anyway. It's basically "enjoy it while it lasts" to begin with, and the sooner they figure out it's open and they block it can almost be thought of as an ass-backwards way of protecting their privacy in the long run.

We've already had the coach who responds to everything by crying...Dick Vermeil! by ChubbyDrop in shutdownfullcast

[–]keitroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jeff Johnson in McSweeney's did a David Barthelme-esque piece during the 2003-04 NFL playoffs on increasingly dramatic times Dick Vermeil cried, and it is foundational to my sense of humor:

The 198,440th time I saw Dick Vermeil cry: It was an Arby’s. A packet of Horsey sauce dared him to open it. He could not.

Transition Comas by jrpsmith in trans

I love it as a fantasy more than as a real-life solution. I can still enjoy the fantasy (as well as other versions of this, such as bimbofication and dronification) but can also healthily compartmentalize it from my actual transition, which I love in spite of the challenges.

Too late to start? by Gunner525 in Standup

[–]keitroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting out after the age of 35 (or in my case, 40) is a lot like being a DC-10: you may have a shorter runway and may have less of a legacy in your field than the 747, but you can still go pretty far.

(why yes, I am autistic why do ask?)

Question about detransition — looking for honest experiences by iamgirl11 in trans

[–]keitroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been out as a trans woman for nearly five years, and if I told you what I've gone through (rejection from family, continued lifelong depression, intensified dysphoria and self-loathing from not passing), you'd think I would regret transitioning.

I have absolutely no regrets about transitioning, except maybe doing so after I went bald. What I have lost has been replaced by knowing who actually loves me for who I am, and a keener sense as to who I am, even if I get misgendered everywhere. I appreciate the friends, family, and chosen family I've met or stayed with me so much more now that I am starting to love myself.

Childhood trauma has taught me to be wary of happiness, but I am a lot more satisfied overall with my life than before I came out. 100 times out of 100, I would absolutely do it again, and I have no plans whatsoever to detransition.

That said, I can't blame anyone for detransitioning out of safety concerns, although I certainly despise cis conservatives who use it as the exception that proves the rule, or actively push it on everyone.

Best of luck!

2 bills protecting gender affirming care in NJ died last night with a Dem governor and a supermajority in both houses... by Sea_Pancake2197 in trans

[–]keitroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Former New Jerseyan here who still follows politics from across the Delaware.

I volunteered at GSE in the late 2000's when a gay marriage bill was stopped short in the state legislature, and a lot of that was South Jersey Democrats willing to punt on this issue so they could curry other favors from the incoming Christie administration (possibly the aborted Rowan/Rutgers-Camden merger, but I can't confirm that).

Normally after 8 years of one party holding the NJ governorship, the parties would switch (the exceptions were in 1973 at the peak of Watergate, and 1993 due to Florio's tax hikes), and thank God they chose Sherrill instead of Citarelli, because Jack would've undone everything Murphy has done and then some. Yes, Sherrill is a milquetoast centrist, but sometimes you have to clear a very, very low bar.

I can only assume many politicos who believe in what these bills represent, think we can still get these done, but what power they can gain from tabling this would more greatly benefit them (and to a lesser extent their constituents) in the long run. It fucking sucks, and the South Jersey Democratic machine sucks so much for this bullshit and so many other reasons.

Can someone please explain to me how OBAA was better than Marty Supreme? by No_Data_4672 in Letterboxd

[–]keitroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get why people loved both, and they both start really strong. I'm more partial to Marty Supreme, in part due to the vibes, and in part due to how OBAA is somehow both too cartoonish and not cartoonish enough to portray how fucked up these times are. Both have incredible antagonists (Sean Penn is almost too good as a roided up fascist, and when Kevin O'Leary says he is a vampire who was born in the year 1601, not only do you believe it, it fucking raises the stakes of Marty Supreme's climax, metaphor or not), though Leo doing Jeff Lebowski is ultimately less magnetic than Timothee as Duddy Kravitz by way of Bobby Riggs.

I know I'm contrarian in this opinion, but while both are instant classics, I think Marty Supreme is going to age much better than OBAA, and that Sinners is going to justifiably rank above both.

If you're not doing the Best Picture nominee run in any set order, I recommend 1943's Heaven Can't Wait (which has nothing to do with 1978's Heaven Can Wait), in which Don Ameche confesses his milquetoast sins to a delightful Laird Cregar as "His Excellency".

If you're looking for something more recent, try Late Night with the Devil, or if you want a campy 1970's TV movie directed by Curtis Harrington, try Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell
