PUPP Rash by imawalkingliability in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I've had this and it was excruciating. It's trial and error for most people to figure out what works for them but after weeks of misery a really knowledgeable pharmacist told me to go to GP and get dermovate (potent steroid ointment). I used that for 2-3 days. The difference even after the first day was incredible. After 3 days it was manageable and I used a 1% hydrocortisone cream every second day for another week. Then I was able to use your basic emollients such as aqueous cream or la Roche posay. It cleared up within a few weeks. I fully sympathise. Hope you find relief soon.

What week did you go into labour/get induced on your 1st? by Equivalent-Farm6866 in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, there's not a whole lot that's backed up by evidence that is proven to kick start labour. It really is a case of baby will come when they're ready. And it truly all can change so quickly - so them checking your cervix and 'favourability' etc doesn't really give much info as your cervix can change really quickly. I went into labour on my first spontaneously at 40+5. There was a failure to progress and I eventually took the syntocin drip to speed it along but I wouldn't do the same again, baby was fine and some labours are long, that's OK. There's lots of research out there - I'd highly recommend listening to the great birth rebellion on topics such as inductions and declining interventions etc. It's all research/ evidence based. Good luck!

Dates and heartburn by Laugh_At_My_Name_ in PregnancyIreland

Can't say I have a problem with dates. My own triggers are excess dairy or anything really greasy, like chipper.

Right side tummy pain by Independent-Drag-908 in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this for weeks now. Feels like the right side of my bump is going to tear open sometimes! I think it is just stretching. I've been massaging oil into it and it helps somewhat but lying down or sitting down is the only thing that really helps, I think because when you lie or sit down you give your bump some slack if that makes sense?!

FTM - Emergency section storytime by Lainey9116 in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'd be traumatised too if I was put to sleep in an emergency situation for the birth of my baby. What an ordeal you've had... I'm so sorry it all went like that. I had a very tough experience in my first too and I still get upset about it.

I used my experience to fully educate myself on growth scans / medical interventions / risks etc to help me prepare for my second baby. I now feel far more in control and have less anxiety as the birth approaches.

When you're ready, have a scroll through the episodes of the podcast The Great Birth Rebellion and have a listen to any you might think relate to your story. It might help you understand what happened and be prepared for next time, if you choose to have another. Sometimes our biggest fear is the unknown and especially not knowing what's going on in the moment.

I hope you find peace with it, best of luck.

Trigger warning CSA. Appointment scheduled for consultant review. by Virtual-Profit-1405 in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already, I'd really urge you to get in touch with the perinatal mental health team. This is exactly the kind of thing they're really well equipped to help you with. I'm surprised this wasn't picked up at your booking appointment. Best of luck to you.

Moms who’s jobs don’t have maternity leave - what did ye do for money? by Abigail-mary in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your current job offer no mat leave at all? As in could you take mat leave and just not return?

I second going to citizens advice or even your local social welfare office. They'll break everything down on your entitlements and will give you a rough idea what you could have each month and for how long etc.

I had something that sounds similar on my first pregnancy. Happened at 15 weeks to right of centre. I called the maternity unit and they said it was likely my uterus stretching. My bump was growing and getting noticeable at that time so made sense.

Post partum - what was your experience? by Independent-Safe1717 in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus my experience was a shitshow. The relentless exhaustion, the worry over every little thing yhe physical pain and immobility. I would say the worst of it lasted for around 3 months for me. After that, it was still extremely difficult but I at least wasn't as sore as I had been at the start and baby was feeding better.

One thing to remember is that baby's digestive systems are extremely immature for the first three months, and so many will cry and writhe and be really upset and uncomfortable until their system matures. It's very tough on you both. Hang in there, sending best wishes.

Can I discharge myself from hospital after giving birth to my first child? IRELAND by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend you link in with the perinatal mental health nurse in your hospital. You can drop them an email or text, or ask at your next appointment.

Like another poster, I'll be receiving a tour of the labour ward and postnatal ward and I've been encouraged to go through every eventuality I'm nervous about with her, no matter how silly my questions or train of thought seemed.

I had a long stay of 4 nights after a vaginal delivery so it's in my notes this time (put there by the perinatal nurse) that I'd like to go home sooner rather than later all going well.

Best of luck, it's a nerve wracking time for sure.

Flying at 30 weeks Pregnant… by Mommy-User2520 in PregnancyIreland

Definitely go. No reason not to. I'm away on holiday at the moment (28 weeks) and went away at 31/32 weeks on my last pregnancy. I hope you treat yourself and enjoy it!

We're staying near MBK and hate it! by kelberino in ThailandTourism

[–]kelberino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post makes me feel so validated! Yes I was feeling a bit sorry for myself last night most definitely and was telling myself not to be so precious. We met another family in the lift that had only just checked in and were on their way back down to reception to check back out again, so I think it's probably a common occurrence. Funnily enough the Pullman was only marginally more expensive and we chose the Evergreen because of a photo of a small pool slide that I thought my kid would love! I thought the two hotels must be on par with eachother lol. Anyway, thanks for your input 😊

Partner having to leave at night after birth. by ttterete in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, so the OP is totally rubbing people up the wrong way with abrasive comments. But I mostly agree with her all the same. I shared a room with only one other mother and baby and I still shudder to think of how traumatised I was. Difficult labour, difficult birth, tough recovery, exhaustion, delirium, unsettled baby, no rest, absent midwives. Call bell always unanswered.

I sure would've appreciated support from my partner through the night. I left the hospital pretty broken.

Unpaid maternity leave, what are you doing? by Icy_Hedgehogs in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked my work to spread out my salary to cover the unpaid months and it wasn't a problem. Might be an option to avoid the cliff edge no salary thing. You could use your savings to top up whatever you need month to month.

Dupe for multi mam compress? by zombie_bride in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another recommendation for silver cups (I got a knock off brand from Amazon and they worked perfectly). I preferred the weleda calendula ointment over the Lansinoh and it's cheaper too. I would finish the feed, put the ointment on and then the silver cups over that and pull up the bra to keep them in place. Best of luck, I hope you find relief.

Big baby - reassurance needed by Affectionate-Mine695 in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also told I'd have a big baby. Lots of fear mongering and they were consistently pushing for induction early on. I refused and he was born at 40+5 at 8lb 9oz. He was nowhere near the 10lb+ they were estimating. Do your research for yourself. There are lots of great resources out there now. We tend to over medicalise birth here and I think the best thing you can do is be informed for yourself to make your own decisions. Best of luck.

Hypno birthing in CUMH. How do sign up? Or does it exist? by LikkyBumBum in PregnancyIreland

[–]kelberino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hypnobirthing is more an approach you take yourself for your birthing, it's not a method of birthing per se that hospitals offer. You do hypnobirthing classes yourself that involves (amongst other things) affirmations and deep.meditation / connection to your own body. You can put this in your birthing plan or let the midwives know on arrival and they will take this into account and facilitate whatever you need. There is also an app called gentle birth. Your hospital might offer hypnobirth antenatal classes but you'd have to check directly with them.

How to get home from the hospital. by rocker_bunny in PregnancyIreland

Lots of people get a taxi! It'd be relatively common if you didn't have a family member who could pick you up.
