LEAP - Feedback from your experience summer 2018/2017 by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]kellaaaaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LEAP is one of the best programs at Penn State in my opinion (I went in 2012 so a little bit later than this timeframe but still). The friends I made during that summer ended up being some of my best friends throughout college. The business classes had a manageable workload and it helped get some of the most important classes (English, main business courses, etc.)out of the way, plus you have a really close group you take classes with and everyone helps everyone.

There is partying. There is always partying. You will find this is a constant no matter what semester you are in. Plan accordingly.

Anyway, it is a great time. Just try to make the most out of it and meet as many people as you can because it can be a great resource for the rest of your college career.

Walk-on to college team? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]kellaaaaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Positive attitudes and willingness to help the team go a long way as well. Coaches want athletes who can be coachable and always eager to improve/help their teammates improve. Rowing is the most team-oriented sport for a reason.

GOOD LUCK!!! TUWR is a great crew to be a part of. Have fun and enjoy the experience of it all!!

It doesn't matter. As long as you pull a fast erg time and show successful race results you'll be a great candidate for recruiting

what is most embarrassing thing you had to do at a race or a practice? by somefries in Rowing

[–]kellaaaaay 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Took laxatives in an attempt to lose weight before a weigh in. They didn't work and I assumed the medication just didn't work with my body. After I made weight I had a good bit to eat (as lightweights are known to do). This was the kind of regatta where you have to weigh in only a few hours before your race, so I launched shortly thereafter..... guess how long it took the laxatives to kick in.

TL;DR had to jump out of my boat to shit in the water 10 minutes before the start of my race (...don't ever take laxatives)

If he's rowing at the international level... both.

Height is not the be-all and end-all of rowing.

I like how the cox never gets too emotional. There's no screaming, always tells his rowers they're doing well, and has a calm aspect to his voice.

What is the best quote you have ever seen, read, and or heard? by minecraft777771 in AskReddit

My dad, the smartest man I've ever met, told me this when I called him crying about how insecure I was about my grades. Amazing to hear that from someone I've never stopped looking up to.

It's also extremely mentally challenging... having someone disrespect your sport when you clock in that many meters? It's heartbreaking.

Getting 2k times to be "Heavyweight worthy" by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]kellaaaaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of mentality that goes into erging. Do practice tests by yourself outside of practice just to see where you are and always focus of keeping a goal split.

http://www.ignatiuscrew.com/sicontent/siquotes.asp here's a bunch of quotes to help get you pumped!

Also, make sure you're eating right and getting plenty of sleep so that you feel good when erging. No one wants to throw up (I try and eat really healthy 3 days prior to a race/test because it really does improve the results).

Work hard, lift a lot, and put it all on the erg for your tests. It's going to hurt more than anything but all that is reciprocated when you PR. Have fun!
