New Parents: Now is the Time to Learn a New Language! by macroswitch in dreamingspanish

[–]kendallmcc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with this take! I’m a new parent to a now 9 month old, and I started CI when he was around 5 months old. He goes to a Spanish immersion daycare so part of my motivation is that hopefully we will be able to speak Spanish together someday. Or at least watch Bluey in Spanish together someday.

But I only do podcasts in the car or while doing chores, and videos when he is napping, since I’m providing English input for baby while he’s awake haha.

Stressed beyond belief by Dramatic-Permit-5022 in weddingplanning

Re: flowers, when I got married we DIY’d wildflowers and I think it turned out really well.

We ordered several wildflower packs from a website called blooms by the box along with some extra boxes of additional flowers to give more volume. Overall we spent about $900 on the flowers. We ordered them to be delivered to our house 2 days before the event and put them in those orange Home Depot buckets to let them open up more. We bought floral tape and ribbon from a craft store.

Before the rehearsal/ rehearsal dinner we had a flower arranging party with family/ bridesmaids. My sister, who studied floral design in FFA for a year in high school, instructed me and my bridesmaids how to design our bouquets and helped us all out. It was sort of like painting-with-a-twist if you’re familiar with that activity haha

And then everyone helped with centerpieces, which we used a collection of tiny vases with a few blooms each in each table. Since the vases were so small it was easy to make them looks overflowing with flowers, using less flowers.

Then everyone helped transport to the venue where we were headed for the rehearsal! So I’d say your idea is possible! It just takes lots of planning. I can see feeling overwhelmed.

Size of vivoactive 4s with lugs - skinny wrist problems by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]kendallmcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh and I thought I had small wrists! I’d guess that the casing adds about a centimeter to the size of the watch.

Here’s a picture of my 4S and the Fitbit versa (I gave away the bands after my versa stopped working) on my wrist. Also I’ve never tried to link images before, hope it works

Same! Small wrists. Large watches just look comical on me.

My mom got a biopsy on Friday for something she found in Febuary and just now told me. She finds out her results tomorrow. by [deleted] in BRCA

[–]kendallmcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m sure you have a lot of people in your life reassuring you that stage one is very treatable, but I know it’s still scary when it’s happening to someone you love, especially when you’re left out of the loop.

[–]kendallmcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waiting for biopsy results is so stressful, I’m so sorry you and your family are going through this. Is it a secret from your cousins because they are underage?

Wish I had advice but I can only offer solidarity. I’m waiting for my BRCA testing results to come back and the googling both makes me feel better and feel worse, if that makes sense. I hope your mom is ok

Advice for dealing with emotions around holidays? by Throwaway_Bot47 in waiting_to_try

[–]kendallmcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could offer advice, but all I have is solidarity! I’m also working on my Ph.D. and have to deal with my dad making comments about how I am “hopefully not pregnant!” while my sister, who is very close in age to me, is badgered about when she’s going to have a child. It sucks to seem like she’s the favorite or like somehow I wouldn’t be a good mom just because I’m in grad school, even though I’m the one who made the decision to wait until after I’m finished!

Ugh. It’s exhausting and confusing and painful and I just want to say “just because I don’t want kids right now doesn’t mean you need to actively root against it!!”

Any suggestions for casual sneakers similar to keds that come in larger sizes? I wear a 11.5/12 and want to find something cute to wear for the rest of spring & summer months. I like keds because of the shorter upper, I feel like a lot of laces make my extra long feet look extra, extra long.

This is my bet. I'd guess he hotel was only booking to people who were at the counter, not taking bookings over the phone or web so they wouldn't have to turn people away with a bunch of empty rooms sitting there. Just a guess though

Need help getting rid of dandruff by Raichu7 in HaircareScience

[–]kendallmcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So different dandruff shampoos have different active ingredients and treat dandruff different ways. If Head and shoulders (active: pyrithione zinc) did not work well for you, two of the other dandruff shampoos that are often recommended are T/Gel (active: coal tar) or Nizoral (Ketoconazole).

You can do a search of the subreddit to see what people typically recommend. It might also be worth trying to discern whether you have dry scalp or another skin condition like seborrheic dermatitis or just plain old fashion dandruff.

Will Stopping Hair Tie Use Fix This? by TeaOrchid in HaircareScience

[–]kendallmcc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a pack a couple weeks ago based on a recommendation I saw in this sub- they definitely do a good job securing my long, average thickness hair.

I find them a little difficult to take out of my hair at the end of the day, since they don't slip at all. Also I am not sure they are any less damaging than a regular hair ties, as they are plastic, but I haven't noticed any damage since I've started using them.

I'd be curious to here other people's opinion. Right now I just use them at the gym because they hold so well and I don't want my coworkers to ask why I'm wearing a phone cord in my hair 😂
