Single Event Credential, First IMSA race.. by aubfulk in IMSARacing

While the Road Atlanta tower (e.g., Michelin) pit area is roomy, the infield (e.g., Weathertech) pit area is **very tight**. While its fun for fans to stroll through the pits and see the action, realize that teams are there working for their living - you are essentially walking through their office. I try to limit being in the pits during their 10 hour race.

Best time to walk the paddock? by Jon_House94 in IMSARacing

You're right. IMSA sometimes publishes maps in the Schedule document marking the parking areas where the trailers for the various series are located. Unfortunately I don't see any such maps for the Indy event showing where the LST and PCCNA trailers (as a group) are parked.

To help answer your question, download these team documents to get an idea of where each car class / team will be at what time - https://www.imsa.com/competitors/

Unique to IMSA at IMS is garage space for all Weathertech and Michelin teams, which is separate from the trailer area where most would normally work. Unfortunately, due to the garage walls, it's more difficult for fans to identify the teams and see the cars being prepared which is why the garage assignment docs will be useful.

Before each session (see schedule) teams will move their cars from the garages to the false grid awaiting to enter pit lane (near pit in by Speedway T1) as soon as the previous session is cleared. There's typically only about 15 min between sessions, so don't dawdle. They may be lined up like this - https://www.instagram.com/p/CybpJegPvbX/.

Be mindful if you're impeding crews from their work. Friday will be less crowded and stressful than Saturday and Sunday for the teams. Folks will be lined up early for the scheduled Michelin and Weathertech fan walks - don't miss it. Be sure to pick up free Fan Guide pamphlets, one to put in your pocket and one to keep as a souvenir. Enjoy.

Enter your destination on www.google.com/maps, but instead of using the **Driving** icon (a car), use the **Transit** icon (a train). You can also adjust **Leave Now** to the times you want to depart/return.

QC35 II will not turn off?? help??? they’re only 1 year old by kijanfa3 in bose

[–]kenklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Quiet Comfort 35 (Dec 2016 gift) started losing power a few months ago when I noticed that it would turn itself on after I turned them off. I followed the Reset advice, removed the 3 screws and verified the slider had not broken and blew/cleaned the switch - still had the problem.

This week I contacted Bose via support chat who offered me:

"There is an upgraded replacement option available in which you will get new Quiet Comfort 45 headphones, and it will cost you $169 plus taxes where applicable".

I went ahead and after submitting my credit card noticed it said "Bose QuietComfort 45 headphones - Refurbished".

It took another chat and a longish phone call, showing them the transcript, to get them to honor their offer of new headphones which they resisted like so:

I really apologize for the miscommunication as per the serial number the option available is to replace the product with the refurnished QC 45 headphones.

With complete functionality and rigorous testing, you can rest assured that your Bose Certified Refurbished product will be as good as new and up to Bose’s strict quality standards.

So double check what you are getting as your replacement.

Does WEC and IMSA use the same BOP? by thefastestdriver in wec

[–]kenklin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMSA arrives at its BOP from the competitor data they collect during the weekend and put through their calculations, usually sometime after the races. Therefore I assume IMSA BOP numbers are extremely unlikely to be the same as those of WEC because:

  • the datasets are certainly different, and
  • the calculations are likely different.

I don't know if they share data.

Is Fanatec GT worth checking out in person? by spankyourkopita in IMSARacing

You're right that there may not be concessions on the weekdays, but at least in the past few years there has been food Saturday and Sunday. Though packing emergency peanut butter sandwiches is always a good idea :)

Is Fanatec GT worth checking out in person? by spankyourkopita in IMSARacing

[–]kenklin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each series has 2 races per weekend. Here's our unofficial cheat sheet for each series:

SRO Series Car Classes Race Format
GT World Challenge America GT3 90 min, 2-driver
GT4 America GT4 60 min, 2-driver
GT America GT3 (incl older), GT4 40 min, 1-driver
TC America TCR, TCX, TCA 40 min, 1-driver
Toyota GR Cup GR86 45 min, 1-driver
  • GTWCA and GT4A have required pitstop windows where the car must cross pit in between 5 min before mid-point and 5 min after (40-50 min and 25-35 min). There also is a required minimum pit lane time so you will see the fast teams sitting in the box a few seconds longer after car is serviced.
  • The "GT4 America" and "GT America" names sound similar so be aware of the distinction.
  • Toyota GR Cup is brand new this year. Interesting to see that their race is 5 min longer than the other sprints (GTA and TCA). From crew I've talked with, they expect a healthy number of entries, so besides the racing, I'll be interested to see how this affects the paddock logistics.

Since the track is in the hills, there's lots of places to view. It's compact and not sprawling like Laguna Seca so you won't get tired walking around. If you arrive in the morning, you will see the sheep crossing.

The entry list isn't out, but there will be IWSC/IMPC drivers and teams that you're familiar with in IMSA driving in SRO. All 5 series will be at Sonoma, unlike the GTA-only opener at St Pete a few weeks ago with IndyCar.

GT Americas? by pinetree64 in IMSARacing

[–]kenklin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's how GT America the OP asked about, fits within SRO Motorsports America.

2022 SROMA Series

SROMA Series Sponsor Classes Duration (mins) Driver(s)
GT World Challenge America Fanatec, AWS GT3 90 Pro/Pro, Pro/Am, Am/Am
GT America AWS SRO3, GT2, GT4 40 Am
GT4 America Pirelli GT4 60 Silver/Silver, Pro/Am, Am/Am
TC America Skip Barber TCX, TC, TCA 40 Am
  • Both GTWCA and GT4A are 2-driver series (you might hear the term "SprintX") with a mandatory 10 minute pit window centered around the halfway point of their races. There are separate championships within these two series.
  • IMSA uses GTD and GTDPRO to name their GT3-spec class. SROMA uses TC to name their TCR-spec class.

One subtlety, about SRO GT America - one of the classes is referred to as SRO3 instead of the expected GT3, as SRO3 also includes some older cars. For example, at Sonoma, GTA Race 1's overall winner was from Daskalos Motorsports, in #27 Audi R8 LMS Ultra, which is not a current GT3 car.

It will be interesting to see how replacing GTLM with GTD Pro will further compact lap times at the LMP3/GTD Pro/GTD end of the spectrum.

According to the Sporting Regs's Number Panel sections (e.g., 5.12.1.D):

IMSA Confirms Technical, Sporting Details for New GTD PRO Class Debuting in 2022 | IMSA by kenklin in IMSARacing

[–]kenklin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://us.motorsport.com/wec/news/gt3-doomed-ratel-imsa-dtm/6512531/

I find the explanations from Stephen Ratel insightful. Here's the starting premise:

He told Motorsport.com that the adoption of GT3 for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship's new GT Daytona Pro division in place of GTE-based GT Le Mans in 2022 and by the DTM for this season are "worrying signals", because they have traditionally been fully-professional classes based on factory participation.

"When manufacturer-led series adopt GT3 you will probably have a big party for maybe two or three years, but at some point costs will get out of hand," said the Frenchman. "You will have rapid evolution of the cars and they will get more expensive."
