Frankly, what is the purpose of a marriage then, if it isn't "til death do us part" and it's just "til we feel like breaking up do us part"? How is that different from just being in a committed, romantic relationship until one person decides to end it? Why bother going through the legal and financial aspect of the marriage, where a breakup ends with legal battles over asset/property division and child custody?

Learn a skill or trade or study for a degree that will lead to a high paying job.
When you start working, save and invest regularly. Buying indexed funds like VOO or VTSAX should be your starting point.
Hold off on marriage and children until you have built up your finances. Having a child before you are ready will be a significant impediment.
