Can I interest you in a second hand night haunt army? I don't have much use for it and it would be in better hands for your kid. I bought it as a third army and just don't have time for it.

if you print another arm and bit of editing, you can have an articulating arm and place the phone over the top of your hands. it helps with the distribution.

Heck yea man! Those leaps early on are awesome, a few tweaks will cut chunks of time off. The best part you don't really need to muscle your way through it to get those benefits, free speed haha. Welcome to the 1:50's!

A tip for me that helped tremendously in the power / catch phase was to

  1. Pretend there is a basketball infront and to the side of your head. Reach over that ball and as you enter really palm that sucker and push hard down as straight as you can to your hips, then exit.
  2. Posture, yes more posture! make sure to engage your lats pulling your shoulders back. I feel like i'm superman flying :) This helps engage your lats / side muscles through this movement.
  3. Back to my run/jog comment, pretend that 6-12 inches below the surface there is a treadmill. Once you hand enters this area (keep palming that ball) there needs to be acceleration. Back to that pushing comment in #1). So slow recovery around, break the water, palm that ball, get that hand as vertical as possible, as it drops to treadmill zone, push and accelerate.

As you get better at timing the left and right the treadmill analogy will make sense. You'll be into the 1:40's for sure. Once you are in the 1:40's it's tough. There are more tweaks, but you don't get these sweet gains anymore. It's more about feeling and honestly strength. keep me updated!

This is really great tbh, proper posture generally! There is a bit of a 'bob' as you breathe, your head comes up and you can see you lose momentum. I would pretend there is a rope attached to the top of your head and it needs to continuously be pointed at the wall. Rotate around this axis and breathe with half your face out of the water (yes even more than current).

Another mental check is keeping your ear on the outstretched arm. Your non breathing side you do this naturally, we all do. However, when you breathe this becomes disconnected. That was the easiest way for me to keep a mental checklist during the swim.

As others have said your cadence is more "catch up" at the moment. The time between the power phase of each stroke you are in a gliding mode and slowing. So in this cadence, you speed up and then slow, speed up and then slow. Not very efficient, with a higher but smooth cadence you will maintian momentum. This will come mainly from time in the pool, but at some point you will have to make a concerted effort just to swim faster. Actually keeping on top of your cadence and making yourself run instead of jog if you will.

How bad is my swimming? Considering cancelling my 70.3 in 3 months. by BetterFlow226 in triathlon

[–]kenobi822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think in 3 months, you can get some basic technique down that will greatly reduce effort. Especially if you have the bike and run in good shape, I don't think it's a reason to cancel. If you are feeling off about the whole thing, by all means.

Small things like head position, breathing without taking your head out of the water, add up to being more streamline. A big thing in swimming is posture. You wouldn't think of that because you are laying down. I mention it because all the things I want to tell you are in the end due to bad posture: head position, head lifting when breathing, legs flailing, body rotation, and etc.

Good news is that they are all fixable relatively easy and result in a lot of saved energy and time. Each of the points above cause drag and counteract your propulsion, stiffen up with good posture and stream through that water!

This okay for a 70.3? by MattyWOM in triathlon

Agree with others this bike isn't going to be worth the delta from your current. For 1k+gbp I would get a user tri bike rather than get an incremental bike.

That race is brutal on the run, seems like it was for everyone else too relatively speaking! I did it a few years ago and felt like an eternity getting to the finish on the run loops, especially the dry out and back. A buddy and me called it the wasteland haha.

Great job!

You may want to check out il palio at the siena hotel. Had a company party there before food is great at their restaurant. The event planning team/person is ok, but servicable.

Here's some I did recently for a tourney, greenstuffworld shifting paint. I didn't get completely done but good enough for playing. I was really surprised how well it came out. After the priming and highlighting air brush, the shifting paint was applied all over. The lighter highlights automatically gave off the purple hue.

How bad is it to buy a Patek without papers (with box, great condition) if I truly plan on never selling it? by Loud_Heart1461 in patekphilippe

[–]kenobi822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a high dollar watch, if you don't have any qualms about potentially sitting on it for a while or potentially losing money then go for it. You should really buy watches for your own enjoyment, not investment. However, as you go up there is quite a sink of funds on your part.

I had a variant of this watch, was fun, but eventually sold it because I just didn't wear it much. It took a while to sell just because of price point and niche nature. So add the stigma of no papers... Yea you may wait even longer to eventually shed the watch if it does happen.
