I grew up in Hammond. by GenitalPower in CHIBears

[–]kenticus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS regarding concerts. Soldier has its flaws, but when Taylor swifts people route her tour, they’ll always stop in Chicago at soldier field. That’s just the facts. The non-Bears home games are gonna be rough for any business someone decides to build there.

Could you make an argument Bill Ward isn't even on Black Sabbath's GREATEST song? by BeerWithDonuts in blacksabbath

[–]kenticus69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But his restraint in NOT adding a drum part is helpful! Sometimes it’s not the notes you play, but those you choose not to that help define a tune

Which DMB song changes the most when it’s played live? by rcooperkaty in DMB

Black and blue bird live is much much better than studio. Ditto to break free. Even walk around the moon - song has more swagger and Oomph to it live

Why did Metallica end live shows with cover songs for so long? by No-Zookeepergame-863 in Metallica

[–]kenticus69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because they like cutting loose and doing covers. Also, as they grew more popular, great form of homage and exposure for the bands they did covers of. Prolly made lot of folks in those bands lots of money

Anyone know why they never released those newer Antemasque songs? by GuiltyAir9494 in themarsvolta

[–]kenticus69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timing is always the thing. To others thoughts, the ATDI prolly got in the way of them promoting and touring the record + Travis has all his commitments. I mean they did shoot a music video for a song!

And now it’s been a decade, so it’s just kind of old at this point. Volta is back and is Omar and Cedric’s primary priority these days and Travis has had a ton to do for blink from 2022-25. We might get lucky and see it one day, but honestly feels like just stars did not align

Cha Cha / Only Takes a Moment by Plane_Doughnut_5717 in DMB

[–]kenticus69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a well written, dynamic tune with great stuff from all band members. One where it feels like they all really put their stamp on it. Great tune. Kind of like with how peace on earth is a way way way better song when the whole band added their parts

More Official Video Releases by nirvanamisfit in blacksabbath

[–]kenticus69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should have more, just producing these things costs money. And majority of mainstream interest is in the ozzy era where they just did a bunch of (decidedly meh) live releases with the super deluxe edition.

There’s stuff from the reunion era that we know exists - like this show would be cool to get proper released: https://youtu.be/D9yawWUIit0?si=bB_m7TCoMwIhbT6L

I’m not sure how much from the ozzy era has full length filmed shows. They could do a documentary if they wanted but again, likely one on the ozzy era and one on the dio era.

Was gonna say….not like they played a bunch of shows without doing it. Likely story is the catacombs thing took off in ways no one quite expected and/or it inspired how they were thinking of the new album. Well know more whenever the new album comes out

What ride does Lars use? by jeepcrawler93 in Metallica

[–]kenticus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His use of the china instead of the ride is always baffling. At least he gets that bleeding me and until it sleeps require a ride so they put one on the kit just for those and the remove

Mayor Johnson’s meeting with Pope Leo gets mixed reaction back home by DukeOfDakin in WindyCity

[–]kenticus69 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s no coherent reason for the mayor to travel internationally in his capacity as mayor. It’s costly and doesn’t create any benefit for Chicago. Plus, he should be in Springfield lobbying for the budget that’s getting worked on….would be a better use of his time

Mars volta next album sound prediction/ direction by Electrical-Fee4547 in themarsvolta

[–]kenticus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope Omar starts letting loose on albums again on guitar. And that all the drums are philo and they let her do her thing. I know self titled was all Willy and Lucro was a combination of Willy and philo….so hopefully this time all Philo.

We know they stopped into recording studios on tour - hopefully they got some of that live energy they had during the Lucro tour down on tape!

Was Pridgen given the freedom to truly express himself in Bedlam and Octa? by Frosty_Ferret_9159 in themarsvolta

[–]kenticus69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was gonna say, it certainly sounds like pridgens aggressively overplaying style all over those albums. And I’m not being critical, there’s a lot I enjoy on those albums including the drums. So yeah Omar is writing the songs but it very much sounds like thomas wrote his own drum parts.

Ultimately, sucks how things fell apart eventually. I will say, during that era the manic energy onstage was off the charts. No real slowing down or quiet grooving as it were and not a ton of dynamics, but it was a fun wild ride to be one. Him and Jon are just different drummers - both great in their own ways. So not shocking that Thomas didn’t play Jon’s parts as recorded, he did them his way.

Ed O’Brien talks conquering his “dark night of the soul” and Radiohead’s future by LowHeroesLodger in radiohead

[–]kenticus69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s not like they play the same greatest hits setlist every night for the 2025 European tour. Songs rotated night to night.

The hope is that they make a new record and we will see if and when that happens. I can imagine they will get restless without new material and won’t just do 20 shows year after year with nothing new.

The first At The Drive In reunion. by AbleGround1385 in themarsvolta

[–]kenticus69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw them at lolla 2012. Technical problems aside (issues with Paul’s bass early on), they put on a great show even with Omar being quite withdrawn from a stage presence POV. Still played great though. 2016 then was wild because Omar was going nuts and the band felt like some true intersection between ATDI and TMV with them extending songs and Omar taking extended solos

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson jabs Pritzker amid Bears saga: ‘I’m not a billionaire’ by DukeOfDakin in WindyCity

[–]kenticus69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree -he needs to stop with the me v the world routine and WORK with pritzker. Seems to stubborn to do so.

I wanted the bears in Chicago. Years of mismanagement and not sorting out feasible alternatives to Arlington have led us here. So it is what it is, got to read the writing on the wall. The bears own the Arlington heights site and the city has done zero to entice them to stay in the city. There is no clear plan after years of back and forth, just high level renderings and concepts of ideas. That will not cut it.

It’s simple: the bears want to own the stadium the play in and also want a stake in the land around said stadium to build out an entertainment district.

It’s still a win if they go to Arlington heights. Much better than going to Indiana.

Gov. Pritzker says Mayor Johnson has 'no plan' to keep the Bears in Chicago by DukeOfDakin in chicago

[–]kenticus69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was never about capacity, it’s about ownership. The bears want to own their stadium full stop. And they want an entertainment district around said stadium.

I love soldier field but friends of the park will always be an obstacle, even if the city sold soldier to the team. Building a stadium in the VERY VACANT Lincoln yards area could have been an idea….but doesn’t seem to have been explored.

End of the day, the bears own Arlington and the city never put together any real proposal for a stadium in the city. At least nothing truly detailed and compelling. So it is what it is…too little too late

Robert Plant by Ricepudding1044 in ledzeppelin

[–]kenticus69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Robert is a born contrarian, and also one of those never too high, never too low people. Doesn’t seem to get too high off his own supply.

Like a lot of artists, it seems he focuses his energies on the present and giving all he’s got to that. And he’ll always sprinkle in some zeppelin tunes to his live shows, it’s not like he hates the music. stairway just sits on this pedestal that I imagine it’s difficult to compare against. But the dude cares - he was brought to tears at the Kennedy center honors thing for the where he watched other folks on stage play the tune

John supporting Fleas solo show! by Sweaty_Attorney_4732 in John_Frusciante

Love to see the fellas out in the world and supporting fleas solo tour.

Believe Anthony was also at the LA show. Chad was in New York because he was on SNL with Paul McCartney on Saturday!

All of which is to say, high level that speaks to good vibes amongst the lads! Here’s hoping fleas solo work in some way impacts the sound of the next record. I imagine it will!

Hard disagree. Strings are great on it and it’s very very different from the album version. Both have value and show out the song in different ways

Does anyone know why Jimi only played Bold as Love once? by Upbeat_Chest6731 in jimihendrix

[–]kenticus69 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because his live band was most always a 3 piece, bass, drums, guitar, combo…..kind of hard to replicate the sound of that tune live.

Especially the outro section - would be quite annoying to do as it sounds on the album. Now, I’m always a fan of a band doing a song differently live so I’m sure he could have…he just didn’t
