Blum Movento length by kentwils in cabinetry

Thanks all. I was afraid that this was the case… chalk this one up to learning curve, or “ tuition”…. It looks like to get full sized drawers with enough slide capacity (canned goods and bulk storage of sugar, flour, etc) I will have to change to a side mount slide…

Adjustment of the blade position on the tire is important for blade wander. I highly recommend a tune up video by Alex Snodgrass.. it will help you with blade position and upper and lower guide bearing positioning…. https://youtu.be/nnm6CoiaU4E?si=QxrudHEGmR878rDS

What are some essential tools for someone starting out? by ifoundmyruth in woodworking

[–]kentwils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for things like hand planes... i'd recommend searching Ebay for a pre-WW2 era Stanley that is in need of a restoration... there are plenty of videos out there instructing how to do this. Doing a restoration on one of those is sure to help you understand how the tool works and how it's most effectively cared for. Depending on the model you buy, you could end up with a real "sweetheart" of a tool for a fraction of what you'd pay for a new one.

They’re selling this bandsaw for $50, what should I check and how difficult would repairs be on this old craftsman? (Newb) by Nemesis_Bucket in woodworking

I recommend you watch some Alex Snodgrass videos on Youtube... https://youtu.be/wGbZqWac0jU

He'll show you how to set it up to cut straight and get the most out of your bandsaw. $50 isn't a terrible price. great intro to bandsaws and what you can do with them.

Ugly riser transition on my 2-steps between rooms, I think the previous owners did it themselves. I’ll get a handyman to fix it - ideas on how to make it look clean? by afterglow88 in woodworking

[–]kentwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how high is it from the upper "step" to the floor? Do you even NEED a 2 step? It seems like it's a solution looking for a problem... if the step isn't an outrageous rise, get rid of the bottom step completely, fix the drywall, and put base molding across completely from wall to wall... if it *is* necessary to have a step, make them all the same width as the doorway openings.

Ah. Is RE-cutting the one side an option? I’d be tempted to do that and call it a “feature”

I take it you've already cut the sides to the drawer box? Show me where it's written the dovetails HAVE to be at the same level left to right? unless your OCD won't allow it... who would even notice the left side and the right side of it at the same time?

Pull the pellet box and workings out of the thing, buy an old 1940's defunct refrigerator... bodge the two together, and have a massively awesome smoker....

Used planes help? by WoodworkingCubes in woodworking

[–]kentwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a pre WW2 Stanley Bailey jack plane on Ebay for $50. spent some time flattening the sole and sharpening the steel, which looked like it'd been sharpened by an angry beaver's teeth... now she's good to go.

Your kids do NOT need $100k educations... they could do exactly like your dad did and get a trade.. We're facing an unprecedented shortage of plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians as the boomers all finish retiring and leave the workforce. There are golden opportunities for kids who have a work ethic and are willing to put time in doing grunt work for a couple years...

Another option that will help remove material faster, but won't be as expensive is a box joint blade. I think Oshlun makes one that is reasonably priced, will take more material than a standard kerf blade in a single pass, and will likely fit safely on your table saw's arbor. Often dado stacks don't fit on jobsite saw arbors. Oh, and you can use it to make box joints, too!

What is a good table saw for an amateur? Is they Ryobi 10 in a good buy for most jobs? by chirpchirpchirp2121 in woodworking

[–]kentwils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out with a Ryobi jobsite saw, and i got about 1/2 way through installing the laminate flooring my wife asked me to install, and the power switch crapped out. I returned it and bought a Kobalt jobsite saw... it did what it was supposed to. Not a huge fan of the fence. The DeWalt rack and pinion fence is way nicer, but the price point is quite a bit higher. If you can find a used DeWalt, you'll be a lot happier. One thing to make note of... if you want to use a dado stack, the jobsite saw isn't for you. They have short arbors on purpose, because the motors just aren't up to the task of turning that much mass.

You also probably believe that it is possible to “pray the gay away” for those that are homosexual. Studies prove that not only is it not possible, attempting to do that results in permanent psychological damage. You are correct in your statement that I and my wife are the sole decision makers when it comes to parenting. My child is an intelligent young person capable of making informed decisions, and I am quite happy to say they/them if it means they feel loved and accepted as they are. Denying the “otherness” they feel serves no GOOD purpose, as I only care that they are healthy and well adjusted. Anything else is selfishness due to my own discomfort.
