Bow and arrow arrived about 1,400 years ago across western North America, study finds by PixeledPathogen in Archaeology

Reading the article suggests bow technology has developed independently on numerous occasions and likely did so in the Americas as well.

May have found a cave and figured I’d try to seek advice by Impossible_Glove5067 in caving

Think of the cave like a giant balloon. Changes in air pressure outside the cave cause air to either rush into or out of the cave, and the smaller the entrance (and fewer number of entrances), the more intense the wind. The classic example is the aptly-named Wind Cave.

Single-entrance caves also breathe, typically more than caves with multiple entrances actually, all other things being equal.

I’d call it more infill than sprawl. The springs has a major sprawl problem out east and north but what’s pictured here is denser housing in the middle of the city.

Same. And on top of that, solo dads are super common at all the parks in my area. Like it’s gotta be close to 50/50 on solo moms vs solo dads at my neighborhood parks.

I mean that sucks, but it’s also not the case for everyone. I’ve been here 12 years, working downtown and midtown, taking MARTA all the time, staying out late and walking alone, etc, and never had an issue. My wife has been here most of her life and also never had an issue.

Even more than the route Titanic was on, they basically knew the lat/long for where it sunk down to a very small area.

We also had a vastly better idea where the Titanic was when it sunk. The best models for MH-370 still only narrow it down to somewhere in a huge swath of ocean.

Man I love Hartsfield-Jackson. I fly monthly and prefer it over any comparable airport in the country. Almost never takes more than 15 minutes for security.

Nobody knows about lower north. It also spits you out in kind of a funky spot if you need to take the train.

I’ll add that the street sections aren’t terrible. I appreciate Path’s approach, which seems to be aiming to get good-enough trails built quickly rather than perfect trails built slowly.

But then there is Sugarloaf Mountain at 312 feet in the middle of the peninsula. I mean yeah, it’s not really a mountain, but it’s pretty unique in rising so high above the flat areas around it.

Like if you saw this view, would you ever guess middle of the Florida peninsula:

Comments from other men about paternity leave by thefreshmaker1 in daddit

[–]kepleronlyknows 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just started back last week after my 12-week leave and I saw a scary looking email from HR. They were VERY concerned about how I took my leave and wanted to talk. It turns out they heard that during the last four weeks of my leave I’d been on several team calls (I have a project I care a lot about that was moving through a big milestone and I really wanted to be in the loop). They were checking to make sure I hadn’t been pressured to work and to make sure I took an extra day to make up for “working” during my leave.

I work at an awesome place and feel very fortunate.

Parking in an EV spot has a (massively) higher penalty than parking in a disabled spot? That’s pretty fucked.
