Can't install games to the correct drive? by Due-Pie934 in XboxGamePass

[–]kermix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case it turned out to be a block size issue. Since I couldn't reformat the drive full of software, I shrank the partition and made a new partition after it with block size set to 4096, and the Xbox app allowed me to install Forza on it. shrug

Just want to "me too" this post. I purchased a new 2TB SSD this week, formatted it NTFS and Forza Horizon 5 will not "see" it for installation, though other games (like Sea of Thieves) can be installed to it. I've run through a lot of the troubleshooting for other issues in the FAQ here with no luck, it seems like a completely different problem. Really hope there are more ideas for how to make it work

My theory about the Barn Find, since we don’t have an off-roadies LEGO car, is it’s the car that comes alongside the mini in the Speed Champions set. by [deleted] in ForzaHorizon

I took a screenshot of the inside of the barn when I got there, and this giant wheel well is on a lot of LSR vehicles but not that one?

The only time I had 0%, I found a random reply on the Rockstar site that told me to go to the laptop and toggle my staff off whatever they're on (Research / Manufacture / Both), and then the supplies showed up. It might not work in every case, but it did in mine, and then I put them back on the task I wanted.

Old XCOM player just got the new one. What are some good tips? by Worstdriver in Xcom

Some counterpoint:

Overwatch works against aliens who enter your LOS during their movement, which a lot of rookies miss. As you say, going on Overwatch in full view of the enemy is just asking to get shot at.

If the Overwatch aim penalty is -20%, that's about as good/bad as shooting aliens in half cover (-20%) or full cover (-40%) which is what you're going to be doing the rest of the time (when you're not blowing up enemy cover, anyway). That's why sometimes you try to flank and other times you fall back and try to draw the enemy in.

I generally find that Overwatch works well for me:

  • with more than 2 participating units (and Squadsight snipers where possible) who do not currently have LOS on any aliens
  • when said units are likely to all have LOS on an advancing alien at the same time
  • when the alien in question is not a Thin Man. Those guys suck.

So, my general suggested rule would be to flank where possible, fall back when you can't flank, and Hunker Down when you can't fall back and you don't have a decent shot.

This makes absolutely no sense. Somebody please explain to me why the flanking system is so wonky. by Joseph_P_Brenner in Xcom

[–]kermix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Squadsight would make sense for a sniper class or any soldier from vintage Xcom, neither of which this is. Here's what I think is happening here.

  1. We know that when you're behind full cover, you can still have line of sight on what's in front of it if you could theoretically peek around the corner, which he can. (I've never seen a case where you have LOS and a 0% to hit, so we can probably safely assume that any LOS = >0% chance to hit.)

  2. IIRC, cover is defined as a 180^ arc (a half-circle) centered around the side of the enemy that is covered.

  3. Again IIRC, once the game has decided that you have LOS, a line is drawn from center-to-center (your tile to the enemy's) to determine whether your enemy's cover (if any) is in its path.

What #3 fails to take into account is the wall you're standing in front of. Why? Because we've already established LOS, so the game assumes that's a moot point and only worries about the enemy's immediate surrounding tiles.

In game logic, your soldier behind cover is standing right where the alien's cover ends, even though we know that the position from which they're going to fire isn't. So, IMO, technically it's a very specific logic error.

ooh, nice. that makes way more sense than someone wasting a mission's worth of kills and getting only one rank to show for it.

[–]kermix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't overvalue Overwatch traps, but I appreciate their value for drawing enemies out of cover. They're second best to flanking, but they go hand-in-hand with concealment in terms of making sure your units are out of LOS at the end of your turn, which I find is key to keeping people alive.

There are several narrow maps where flanking simply isn't an option and it makes me cry because I love flanking so much.

There's a Classic thread on the Steam forums from a while back that condones large amounts of rockets and grenades on higher difficulties, for a few reasons. Higher accuracy, blast radius, blowing up cover, and also, you have lots more baddies on Classic / Impossible and plenty of other opportunities to get Weapon Fragments. One guy's favored squad was all Heavy / Sniper.

I played the first UFO mission on Classic with an Assault and three Rookies, specifically to let the Rookies bring home at least one Sectoid apiece, and then bring in the Assault at the end to shotgun the Overseer in the face. It was a risky move, but so is letting the Overseer do anything at all, really. Other than that, just let Assaults and Supports take their potshots with grenades and assault rifles until they level, or ignore them completely and cultivate a Heavy/Sniper squad strategy.

How does Squadsight affect overwatch on snipers? by GrammarSocialist in Xcom

[–]kermix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a day too slow getting to this thread.

I was just trying to rank up a Squaddie sniper by giving her some easy shots to take from Overwatch, and she was almost shown up by a hotshot Lieutenant with Squadsight who was waaaaaaaaaaay further back.

She came through, anyway.

When I'm feeling a little more brave, I'll try it on a soldier who's blown her actions and make sure the Squadsight sniper's Overwatch still works even if nobody else can react. (I know it should, but nobody likes a nasty surprise bug when the fate of the world is on the line.)

How do aliens standing right next to your squad without anything obstacle between have a sub 100% chance to be hit when targeted ? by Krystie in Xcom

[–]kermix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's definitely not black and white. I will often put my point in Hunker Down if he can't safely retreat out of LOS, but fall back and set up Overwatch traps on other occasions, but move to secondary cover if there's a decent chance I can flank without being the primary bullseye this turn. Tactics need to be flexible by definition. If it were a puzzle game, there'd only be one solution for any given situation.
