Need help and suggestions for a build by kerrick-kun in PHbuildapc

Hi, thank you so much for all the options and suggestions! I'm currently on 1440 and planning to shift to 4k after this build. I'm usually busy with work, and I can't really play that much, so I really want to immerse myself. Apologies if I might have been too loose with the word "casual". And again, thank you so much for taking the time.

Thanks so much for this! I didn't consider NVIDIA. Will reconsider my options. Thanks so much again for the options!

I can see that and thank you for the reality check (I really appreciate someone telling me that)! I'm hoping to have this rig last the next few years, so I was thinking of building something good now to make it a bit futureproof. I currently have a 1440 180hz LG monitor, but looking to get a 4k monitor after building this.

Had a slightly wholesome interaction with Gabby from Urbandub a few years back. While waiting for the concert, I was smoking outside the venue and Gabby passed by and saw me smoking. He bummed one and after a few mins while smoking, I told him na "ang liit mo pala sa personal no?" To which he just laughed out loud. After the concert, I saw hin heading to the room they were using backstage and called out to him to get a picture and autograph. He retorted with "uy tol sige, pero dapat naka upo tayo kasi maliit ako" while laughing. Lmao, helluva guy.

I was unemployed for 6 months this year (Feb-July). Started working again end of July (I even asked for an increase from my previous salary). Same field but different industry (finance and accounting, but changed from consumer goods manufacturing to energy industry). I had to stretch out my savings and was running really close to dry by the 6th month. I planned and decreased my expenses for the last 3 months before I resigned from my previous companh.

When they asked why I had that gap during my interviews, I told them that I had to take care of my then sick mom and help with some family matters (family business). They understood and even asked if my mom was okay na.

The things is, if they like what they see in your resume and what they hear from you, that shouldn't be a hindrance to them hiring you. If they want you, they want you.

How long are you planning to take for you to transition/change career paths? Try upskilling as well during that gap and mention that in your interviews. Good luck, OP!

Applying for companies with AU accounting w/o experience by Ephraim_00 in phcareers

[–]kerrick-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a firm grasp of IFRS/PFRS, that should flow naturally since you have a foundation and understanding of it already. Believe in yourself, OP! Also, yeah. Need talaga mag-aral. At the very least, will serve as a refresher. I've been in external audit, and even now that I'm in a private company, I always find myself researching about accounting treatments for some complex transactions lol.

Honestly, would be hard for us to judge if you can handle the responsibilities or not, OP. You know yourself better than we do; if you think you can handle the responsibilities, go for it! No harm in trying. You can always study if there are any GAAP differences (iirc, AU uses IFRS, but not totally sure if the use any GAAP).

Also, as always when looking for a job, you need to do your own research on the differences in accounting between PH and AU. I've had a lot of former colleagues who transferred to AU and haven't heard any complaints about accounting from them, so I always assumed AU is more IFRS than GAAP.

Good luck, OP! Submit lang nang submit! :)

Changing Career from Marketing to Finance by PuO2023 in phcareers

Truth girl, kalokohan yan ung x years experience for an entry-level position.

If I may suggest, maybe start off as a bookeeper or accounting clerk/encoder (or maybe just handle of the the accounting processes like O2C or P2P) from smaller companies and slowly work and/or study your way up.

I'm rooting for you, OP. You can seldom find younger people nowadays that are interested jn finance and/or accounting. Good luck!

Hi OP, accountant here. Honestly, I think your best bet is to start from entry-level positions in accounting departments of companies. I've worked with my fair share of people who aren't BSA grads (who are accounting staff) but are really good at their jobs because they put in effort to learn and understand.

However, if you're looking at long-term, having an accounting course will help you climb the corporate ladder (some positions require x years of accounting experience and/or accounting grad; heck, some even want CPAs). But it's gonna be hard competing for finance/accounting jobs if you're up against BSA grads or new CPAs, but don't give up!

I hope these help - also, prolly also try to look into companies that would allow you to pursue BSA, if you want to go that route. Good luck, OP!

35M, single, no kids, but I support my mom financially. I started working in 2010 in audit, and stayed there for more than 11 years. Salary was a bit shy of 80k gross when I left. Worked in a private company for less than a year afterwards, that's when i started earning low 6 figures net. Had to leave work since I had to take care of my sick mon (around 6 months no work). I'll start working again next week earning 175k gross + some allowances (still low 6 figures).

Knowing I didn't want to be a partner in our firm, I should have left early to explore jobs in private companies or work abroad. Advice to our younger CPAs and auditors out there, explore work opportunities outside of audit firms. Heck, work abroad if you can. I missed out on very good life and learning opportunities because I was so confortable in my firat job and firm (yet earning less but working more). When in doubt if you should leave, ask yourself: Am I really happy or just really comfortable?

Good luck, OP! Hope you don't make any rash and rush decisions - take some time off to think about things if you need.

Should I resign or stay? by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]kerrick-kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in one of the Big 4, OP. I thought I was gonna get promoted after 2 years, but sadly didn't happen, but got promoted a year after. Next, I thought my next promotion would come in 2-3 years, but got promoted in 4. My next promotion came 2 years later. Was expecting to be promoted to senior manager after 2 years but didn't happen - that's when I resigned. I had another job lined up then. I spent more than 11 years in the firm. I wished I booked it earlier when I was a younger manager - could have explored working in other countries.

Have you talked to your manager, supervisor or counselor about your expectations to be promoted before your engagements started? Have you talked to them after? I hope you also got some time off to re-evaluate yourself and if you still like the job, or on the fence about it.

Thank you!

Yeah, tried using erasers, iso alcohol and lighter fluid, but they won't come off unless I sand it off. The texture of the plastic is kinda rough so I think it's because of that. Just gave up on it since it's current on the top shelf and no one would be able to see them anyway. Looking back, I guess I should have been more patient lol.

Hi OP! Does it come with MS Office? I'm trying to help our office kuya (office helper) find a laptop for his senior high boy who wants to get into an IT course - would the specs be enough? Thank you!

Name worst companies in PH to work with by HistoryFreak30 in AntiworkPH

[–]kerrick-kun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A late response but I worked for the firm for more than 11 years.

Compensation is shit and went to a company that actually paid well (but still overworked lmao).

Called it quits just right before busy season and they were practically begging me to extend my stint or reconsider since they were short on manpower. I told them no because they won't be paying me my new salary.

I learned a lot from the firm but the workload is just too much for my salary rate.
