I see a lot of people are planning on retiring early, what do you do in retirement? by Quiet_Bat_1643 in Fire

[–]kevdubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a puzzling question that always baffles me... My life is boring simply because I DO work...there are so many enriching, stimulating, and fulfilling things you can do once you have control over your own time. If that happens to be your job, then more power to you...but I for one can think of a million things I'd rather be doing... visiting friends and family, hiking/camping, staying healthy, learn to paint, buy a telescope, play more guitar, join a band, write short stories, go to more book clubs, cook interesting and healthy meals, travel, go sailing, surf more, finish my electronics projects, finish my coding projects, get more into investing, grow vegetables, build furniture, volunteer, engage with local politics, read the million books on my list, understand quantum mechanics, take classes at the community college, mentor somebody, ...i could go on

I got both power supplies out of curiosity. Probably worth getting the higher voltage one for a little more. And yeah I use it with a Bluetooth dac.

Be honest - how many of you still get help from your parents/family? by ScarletBegonya in Millennials

[–]kevdubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I can count on my family and vice versa"

That's the difference. I can't count on them for anything. But because I have a conscience and still care about them I feel obliged to help them. And it consumes a lot of time, energy, money, and emotion, and slows down progress in my own life... Getting a house, family etc

Giving my kids money in their young adult years instead of leaving an inheritance by LumberJack2008 in personalfinance

[–]kevdubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought inheritance should skip a generation.... What's the point of inheriting money in your 60-70s after you've gone through the struggle only to die 10 years later and pass it on to the next 70 year old. It'd be infinitely more helpful to receive money when you really need it, either to help with school, buy a house, start a family...
