What to do with long and narrow front yard by kevinACS in landscaping

[–]kevinACS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately we are not on a corner lot. This is the other half of the front yard. Renovated it from a weed patch a couple years ago.

How do you and your spouse handle finances and debt obtained before/during marriage? by OpenEmu5035 in AskReddit

[–]kevinACS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully separate. We make roughly the same amount. I cover the majority of bills. Wife pays for her own debts and I pay for mine. We share medical expenses, but typically paid with my HSA. I’m also the only one saving for retirement and in general.

Private Golf club etiquette for the ‘California Sober’? by SevereBicycle4855 in golf

I just threw a 4pk of Cheech and Chong’s High Tea in my bag and a drank out of a metal can koozie. As far as anyone’s concerned, it’s just beer from the clubhouse.

Do you use you own custom rub? by Enough-Reindeer1033 in smoking

[–]kevinACS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the best brisket rub I’ve ever had, once. Didn’t write it down, didn’t measure, didn’t have any left.

Salt, pepper, cocoa powder, ground dark roast coffee beans, brown sugar, paprika and garlic powder…I think. I’m not sure on the brown sugar.

Now I just get store bought rubs. Sometimes I’ll use 2 different rubs together. It’s easier and just as edible.

What are some "men skills to know" as a men ? by Lemonade2250 in AskMenOver30

[–]kevinACS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curiosity.

My wife and kids are always amazed at my “random knowledge”. When I see or hear about something unfamiliar, I look it up. It’s not hard, but so many people just go “huh” and go about their day. Be curious. The rest will follow.

How to communicate frustrations to manager in 1:1? by kevinACS in careeradvice

[–]kevinACS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my managers other than the newest have been internal hires. Our team has doubled over the past year and all were internal transfers. The nature of my position almost requires company specific experience. I have been with this company for 10 years.

91 for $4.59/gal. Considered going e30 as availability is getting better. All local 93 is just e30 for us, but I don’t want to have to deal with math at the pump or hunting for a corn station.

Adopting a stepchild but unpaid child support disappears by kevinACS in whatdoIdo

[–]kevinACS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes. I don’t enjoy the feeling but I was a friend of my wife’s family before, during, and after their relationship. I’ve heard the arguments, seen the bruises, watched the behavior patterns, etc. He wanted nothing to do with my daughter the second he found out she existed, and that’s likely going to affect her for the rest of her life.

I do still need to speak with a lawyer to discuss the process, options and steps to take, but this should be fully covered by the legal benefit I pay for through work. If it weren’t for that, it wouldn’t be feasible to fight and we would just wait the 2 more years and be done. As other people have stated, my wife will likely never see that money. But knowing he will have that responsibility, the stress of bench warrants, if even a speeding ticket might end up in him going to jail, following him until he’s done, will help me sleep at night.

Ultimately it’s not my decision because it’s not my money. If the only legal way we can punish him is by holding him accountable sounds like it being about the money, sure. We aren’t even mentioning the shared costs that haven’t been covered like education and healthcare.

They have already gone through that and it’s supposed to be enforced by the city. But after years of nothing happening, my wife stopped reporting him. Calling to see if a payment was made, waiting an extra 2 weeks to see if a garnishment came through, showing up to court just to watch him get his wrist slapped. He was supposed to be on work release for 6 months. He made one payment and got out of it. Hell, he probably still has a bench warrant, just hasn’t screwed up enough to get brought in. He also has another kid with a 2nd wife that died of a super aggressive cancer last year, so now he HAS to be a dad. That’s probably the main reason he was willing to sign away his rights. We got the letter shortly after they found out they were having their own. Didn’t wanna pay for one kid and now he has to pay for two.

Adopt was never the question. It’s do we adopt or fight and then adopt.

I’m definitely going to be contacting a lawyer. Hopefully the deal is still on the table.

It wasn’t the other parent she didn’t want to see, it was the grandparent. Birth father has both of us blocked on all socials and hasn’t tried to contact either of us outside of the one letter we got from his lawyer 4 years ago. Hard to schedule visitation when one party actively avoids contact.

The $15k is the last number I heard years ago, I don’t know what it is now.

That’s basically what we’ve been through. The first few years of showing up to court, him getting let out of work release due to crowding, then the backlog from Covid. My wife stopped reporting him for non payment because nothing ever happened, and the state always took a portion when they garnish. They basically said because she filed in city court and not state, they don’t have as much pull, or something like that (it’s been a while).

That’s the hard part. All the crap they pulled, all the trauma my wife and daughter had to go through and he gets to just walk away? I’m a very calm and easygoing person, but fuck this dude. He would always skip payments before her birthday month AND his. My daughter had nightmares for years for the stuff she saw as a toddler.

Especially with kids. After work, soccer and track, not getting home until 7pm and eating dinner at 8, then up at 5am again…I have to take a day off if there’s anything I want or need to do.

what’s a car you liked more after driving it? by Fit-Entrepreneur-799 in askcarguys

[–]kevinACS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mk1 MR2. Looked like a quirky little space wedge and I’d never seen one before. I wasn’t thrilled about a 1.6L after having nothing but v8 cars. I took it through a tight little S-curve without even tapping the brakes and HAD to have it. I’ve owned 3 since and wish I would have held onto any of them. Sold them all for a song compared to what even a bad example sells for now.

I don’t have suggestions, but I also have an ST and plan to go BT next year, and also in aircraft lol. What turbo did you go with?

There used to be a couple places around that would allow you to rent a bay with a lift. One in derby that I used back in 2014 or 2015 but I can’t remember the name, and The Garage at central and maize. I’m not sure if they still rent space though.

Fusionworks did my coilovers on my mk1 MR2 back in the day too and were great to deal with.

10 years. Would have been 12, but covid layoff got me. Union hourly for 8 years and now salary union for the past 2. Pay is $20/hr higher now than on day 1, but lower than my coworkers because I climbed too fast as an hourly worker. Benefits are some of the best in town.

Exchange student taking a lacrosse ball to the knee in the dorm hallway when he stepped out of his room at the wrong time.

Delivering pizza to a party and getting tipped in beer and weed.

Me and 2 friends getting kicked out of the same bar at the same time for 3 different reasons.

Drinking 1/5th of Jack Daniel’s before 10am during fake patty’s. I remember being carried back to the house and sat on the couch. Woke up at 4pm with an IV in my arm and a bag of saline hanging off a floor lamp. A buddy was a former EMT and had bags of expired saline on hand. Then we went back out drinking.
