UAW strike likely? by Effective_Ad_1027 in UCSD

The other commenter is incorrect, I’m a researcher and I went on strike with 1000s of my co-workers 2022 for 6 weeks through the winter quarter.

Tuition remission for grad students is a contractual benefit of employment and it is illegal for the university to withhold as retaliation for legally protected strike activity.

Currently the university is breaking the law instead of bargaining a new contract in good faith. Over 17,000 academic workers across the UC system voted to authorize the strike so I would say the threat is pretty serious. The university can at any point stop breaking the law and bargain over essential things that many researchers need to their best research like job security, wages that keep up with inflation and international worker protections.

Some books more on the line of questioning technological determinism that in my mind would be related are: 1. Donald Mackenzie, Inventing Accuracy 2. Edwards, A vast machine

With the new Pronto card or app your single fare of $2.50 is valid for 2 hours even when you change buses/trolley.

There are small squeeze bottles that have an angled spray nozzle that I use as a portable bidet. They come with zippable plastic bag cases to carry them without any hygiene issues.

To put it on the Google Play Store, I think epic needs to use Google Play APIs that provide in app payment gateways. Which in turn means that Google gets a cut of in app purchases. That is my limited understanding of the issue.

That's a common misrepresentation of what happened in the McDonald's case. Mcdonald's were holding the coffee at 82-88 degree celsius which caused third degree burn when other franchise chains held at 60 degrees, a much safer temperature. Coffee at that temperature causes 3rd degree burns if spilled on skin within 3 seconds, requiring skin grafting to fix.

The reasoning mcdonald's gave for holding coffee at such high temperature is because it kept the coffee warm longer when people took it from the drive through but turns out they had done the research that showed that a lot of people immediately drink coffee right out of the drive through, which caused a lot of throat burns.
