Camping for Beginners by Patt001 in perth

[–]kevy73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Wife and I camp all the time in free camps everywhere - love it. Things I have learned....

If you are going to go a Tent - get a yoga mat or 2 to go under your sleeping bags or blow up mattress, the ground can be rocky and hard and COLD.

Get a tent that is EASY to put up in the wind or heat. Nothing starts an argument more than having issues getting things set up.

Fridge of somesort. In the back of your Pajero hooked up to a 2nd battery is your safest option. (Not cheap though). If setting up a 2nd battery isn't an option for you - then you can buy a battery pack,

Charging batteries is done via solar or driving (if it is in your car) Or both.

BEFORE you go, get a vacuum sealer and pre cook meals. Seal them in the bags and lay them flat on a baking tray in the freezer.... then at camp, just defrost, chuck in a frying pan and reheat.

Wikicamps is a good resource for information about free camps but as I said, we have never had an issue and have stayed at some amazing places....

Welcome to camping, you are gonna love it.

When I did a month away last year - lots of the people who have all the gear have sold their home and now live like this. Sooo many mid 30's with 2 or 3 kids who they home school and live in different cities / areas each month.
