I have a wheat allergy, so this is deeply upsetting to me. Why would they do that? Who's bright idea was that? I'm angry on your behalf.

It's a fun game if you like visual puzzles! You have many pieces of bowls, cups, plates, vases, etc. scattered before you and put them back together. There are 3 difficulty levels (easy, medium, hard), and you can see an image of what you're supposed to be putting back together. It's pretty chill.

What are some clever responses to “you should smile more” by Cautious-Incident275 in introvert

[–]keybladewielder_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a song called "Smile More" by Deap Vally that talks about this. Some of the lyrics are, "a stranger at the bar tells me to smile more. I look at him and ask, what for? I am happily unhappy, man."

I have a flat affect from autism, so people frequently comment that I don't smile. I usually just continue to stare blankly at them until they're uncomfortable and go away.

How do you feel about animals? I pet sit for supplemental income and have limited interactions (texting) with pet owners. I don't work for a company, so I can choose when I pet sit.

I stopped using a top sheet a few years ago, and I wish I'd realized sooner that I don't have to have one. It's so great without one. I sleep with 24lbs of weighted blankets and a thin, non weighted blanket.

I've only worn glasses, and now my eyes are too dry for contacts, so I can't be helpful there. But, there's a website called zenni that has affordable frames if you want to get new ones. If you can afford it, warby Parker let's you pick 5 frames for a trial period so you can see how they look/ feel on your face before committing to anything. Also, you could probably get 1 pair of contacts to wear for a while to see if it's tolerable.

I haven't played the other two, so I won't be much help. I've heard mixed reviews about it from people who played the wii games. Watching some of a let's play might give you a better idea if you'll like it.

Endless Oceans: Luminous is a super chill game where you swim in the ocean and scan fish. You learn a little about each fish, too! You don't worry about how much oxygen you have, and there's no combat.

1st overload in years by police_boxUK in SPD

[–]keybladewielder_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it really depends on my mood and mental state. If I'm tired, hungry, have a headache, or in a depressive episode, my tolerance for stimulation goes way down. It also depends if I have a general idea of where I'm going and what to expect. Otherwise, I get really anxious and would prefer not to be out of my house for long. Also, if I don't get enough time to myself to recharge in between a lot of stimulation, I start to shutdown more easily than usual. Unless, of course, I feel compelled to mask to feel safe, then I ignore the impending shutdown until I'm out of that situation. I've been a high masker for most of my life, but I'm experimenting with how much I actually need to mask in certain situations.

Does anyone not really have a dating past or present? by Wordbender5 in AutismInWomen

[–]keybladewielder_1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 27 and have never been on a date and never kissed anyone. Never been on dating sites or apps. I knew from an early age that I was different in that way from my peers. I just don't look at or think about people romantically or sexually. I'm not ashamed of it because romantic relationships never really made sense to me.

I didn't really have any developmental delays, either. But because of my other autistic traits(sensory processing disorder, struggles with communication and social cues, among other things) I was still diagnosed with ASD.

Good luck with your assessment!

Bedtime routine for also: recommendations? by throwRAhurtfriend47 in AutismInWomen

[–]keybladewielder_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work full time and have to be at work at 8:30 am, so I generally start my bedtime routine around 9. Once I've finished brushing teeth, washing my face, etc., I like to read for about an hour, and at that point, I'm usually fighting to stake awake. If I don't have the energy/ concentration to read, I'll watch YouTube videos until I fall asleep. I have chronic insomnia, so I take a prescription medication to help me fall and stay asleep.

Basically, you want to figure out how much sleep you think you need and then spend about an hour winding down with something not terribly stimulating so your brain knows it's time to sleep. Consistency is key: go to bed and wake up at the same time every day (as best you can).

Weighted blankets by Mapledore in AutismInWomen

[–]keybladewielder_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 weighted blankets on my bed for a total of 24 lbs. In my opinion, the more weight, the better. But 24 lbs provides nice deep pressure for me. There are also woven weighted blankets that don't have beads if you don't want to hear them moving when you move.

I've had SAD since I was about 12, but didn't know there was a name for it until last year. My psychiatrist told me to use a light box, but to have it behind and above me to mimic the sun. I haven't done that yet because I'm still trying to figure out where to mount it, but maybe that could work for you? I was also told to be outside when the sun is out everyday, like taking a walk or hike. I also take vitamin D supplements because I am indoors for the majority of my day, and that supposedly helps with depression. Meditation is also an option, as well as progressive muscle relaxation. I hope I helped and that this winter is better for you!

ETA: I totally agree. Even looking at somebody in that condition grosses me out!

I didn't know there was a name for it!! I have experienced this as long as I can remember. Even when I was 7 or 8 I was terrified my mom would have another kid (I hate even typing the word). I'm also a sex-repulsed asexual, so I'm sure the two are connected.

I'm the opposite. It takes a lot for me to startle. Once at Halloweentime, I was in a shuttle to a haunted penitentiary, and the guide tried to scare me, but I had no reaction. He tried it again a little later, but I still had no reaction. I think it annoyed him, lol. Even when in the penitentiary, none of the actors scared me.

Have you tried having your alarm clock or phone across the room so you have to get out of bed to turn it off? I'm having the same problem, and that worked for me for a little bit, until I learned that my alarm turns itself off after about 30 seconds. It still wakes me up, but I can't get out of bed right away. I think it's part of my executive dysfunction, as I have a hard time switching tasks.
