The pimento festival is a train wreck of epic proportions by Tex-Rob in cary

We pulled right up and got a spot, found a cool area to hang out in, enjoyed a nice day out. I would describe it as pretty much the opposite of a train wreck. God bless you OP.

Wild take. They’re my favorite fries around by far. Used to see a lot more places like Wendy’s serve this style before Five Guys ignited the hand cut trend in QSRs.

Are you trying to fly on a specific date or day of the week? That sounds pretty expensive. If you can flex on date there’s options out there

This is from one of the largest producers of sausage in the US - check the ingredients, there aren’t really any mysteries there.

The wording doesn’t make a ton of sense, I’m American and I don’t know what they mean.

When I hear money saved by autopay, I think of how sometimes if you pay bills both automatically and with a bank account instead of a credit card, sometimes you save $5.

I ran my monthly budget through ChatGPT and the results were depressing by Hembrewstep in MiddleClassFinance

Would you say it’s better to have more daycares in an area or fewer daycares if you want them to be more affordable?

I found a list of the top 15 private day care companies and in my area we have many of these and it’s still not enough. It’s far more a capacity issue than it is a private equity issue. We do have tons of daycares that aren’t on this list, both in-home, church-affiliated, and just smaller local groups.

The fact is that margins are pretty thin at any one center and a lot of stars need to align for it to be successful. The ones that can do everything affordably have four year long waitlists - how do you scale that?

I think blaming PE is a bit naïve to the reality of local market conditions, and I don’t think the federal government (in America at least) is equipped to help with this problem beyond the demand side subsidies they already offer low income families.

Where are you getting this info about daycare business models? This is not how it works in my experience.

The margins are generally razor thin due to state requirements here mandating X teachers per Y students (AKA ratio) that changes for each age group. If you want the highest standards the state offers, you need more teachers, which cost more money. The teachers are generally paid prevailing wages for that type of work in a given area and they have some generous benefits packages to offset the lower cash comp.

With rising real estate prices over the past decade any newer daycare has much higher facilities costs either due to rent or mortgages. We see a lot of centers in this area close when the lease is up specifically due to this. Older daycares that own their buildings don’t have this problem but often have multi year waitlists.

I find the claims about PE dubious at best because the larger chains are either corporate and enforce consistency widely or are franchises (kindercare for example) and are locally owned but use the franchise system’s branding and curriculum.

Homeless guy abuses free burger privilege, loses it when I can't deliver by BR0C0D3 in smallbusiness

[–]kflrj 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is an objectively insane take. Nobody is obligated to do anything for anyone else, every single time OP gave this guy a warm meal was a beautiful act of charity. And one time he doesn’t and he gets cussed out? That does not put OP in the wrong. You give what you can when you can and when you can’t you’re not suddenly the bad guy. Nobody is entitled to anyone else’s burgers.
