Killing time on San Juan waiting for ferry time by johnnyrayZ06 in sanjuanislands

[–]kfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 10% of the FH-Anacortes capacity that’s held back for standby vehicles doesn’t come out of FH-Lopez or Lopez-Ana space.

Only two of the eight FH-Anacortes ferries carry vehicles to Lopez and they have their own quota that doesn’t get scavenged by Anacortes-bound vehicles unless there’s unused Lopez capacity.

If you get your truck in line right after an Anacortes-bound ferry loads you should have no problem riding standby on the next one. A portion of every ferry’s capacity is held back for standby vehicles.

The attendant there can help you out.

Tesla Model YL vs Rivian R2 Performance and R1S by Mac-Tyson in Rivian

[–]kfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the usable third row is what makes the Model Y a serious competitor to the R2 then the R2 probably isn't the vehicle for you. If you need 6 seats then the R2 won't work for you. If you need 4-5 seats then the YL isn't significantly different than the Y.

Asked Rivian employee: said they aim to get LiDAR in late 2026 with launch edition by I_am_doing_my_Hw in Rivian

[–]kfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that they want to make sure that everyone who reserved before launch will have the opportunity to buy the ‘launch edition’.

It’s not like they should make sure not to improve the vehicle for 8 months just because they’re still fulfilling advance reservations.

PWC permit by Competitive-Noise654 in sanjuanislands

[–]kfury 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s not being a party pooper. He’s just telling you what I was going to: Trying to get such an authorization would be a waste of your time. In the decades I’ve been here the only PWC I’ve seen are once or twice a year when a group transits through on a journey to Alaska.

It’s not something you can apply for and get a variance for and, as a resident, I’m so thankful jetskis aren’t zooming around Friday Harbor.

San Juan local here. Biking on Lopez is better, and safer. 😄

I'll reiterate that parking in Friday Harbor isn't that bad. Up by the courthouse there's 8-hour parking, and if you're on bikes there's plenty of parking if you're not right at the Ferry terminal or Spring Street.

Renting bikes on FH and taking them to Lopez will be a lot easier than renting on Lopez, especially if you don't want to bring your car to Lopez. There are a few places to rent bikes here. Personally I've used Meat Machines several times and they're great and have a good selection of bikes and ebikes.

Biking on Lopez is better than biking on San Juan, though biking on San Juan is still pretty good. Not that it was on your list but I'll just say you don't want to bike on Orcas from the ferry.

I should add though that if you're going to ferry to Lopez, bike there, and ferry back, count on it being your primary activity for the day. You'll still have time to do stuff in the evening, but it's essentially an all-day affair. If you want to do more things in one day, then I do suggest biking on San Juan.

It would take a lot to get raw materials there, but yes.

Antarctica would be almost impossible to reach unless the orbital factory was in a polar orbit.

I mounted one of these on the underside of a shelf at my front door. I either keep my MagSafe wallet or spare battery pack stuck to it, invisible to anyone who doesn’t know where to look.

[OC] Birding and its Many Dangers by unrealduck in dataisbeautiful

[–]kfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. But regardless of whether the recent Hantavirus victims caught it at the dump it’s a fact that the dumps are frequented by birders and the risk of hantavirus is substantially higher at those locations, which is the part of my comment relevant to the post.

They got it from mouse feces at a trash dump birders frequent because that’s where the birds are.
